I was told it was okay to post this here, instead of posting in the sticky. (I'm NOT reading through a billion pages. xD)
Can someone recommend me a really good book, from the fantasy genre? Preferably horror-fantasy? c: Other books are acceptable too. ;o
If anyone posts, twilight, eragon, harry potter, or any extensivly mainstream books that have fangirl/boys I will freak. c:
Scar night, Sabriel, Lireal, Abhorsen. (If anyone's read those) are some of my favorite books. c: So if you've read them, can you recommend a good book that would strike my fancy? (No sequals to any of those please.) Maybe a vague, hopefully non spoiler, runthrough of the plot of said book their posting? c:

To follow the suggestion of the staff:
Anyone may post in this thread to ask for recommendations! Just post books or authors or genres you've liked and disliked and ask for recommendations based on those likes and dislikes!
Remember - if you reply, you are responding to specific people, not just posting books you recommend reading. Recommend books in general here.

Well, I know a series that I absolutely love, and is full on punderfulness. Oh the puns are everywhere! They are the books in the Xanth series, I think there are around 20 of them, but there could well be more. You don't have ot read them in order, but it can be useful for bits of information, like knowing who older characters are, who parents are, but nothing incredibly vital. There are all sorts of magic spells and what have you. They're far from horror, but a lot of fun to read! The first in the series is called "A Spell for Chameleon" I believe, and they're written by Piers Anthony.

Ok, a few books you might like are Storm Theif and Poison by Chris Wooding.
They're kind of simple books, but they have a good story line and arn't verry confusing. Most of his books are good.

My word can't really be taken for 'not a bajillion pages' because what's long to you may not be long to me, or vice-versa.
One of my favorite fantasy stories is actually a series called The Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone by Greg Keyes. The first is the Briar King if you want to check it out. It's, basically, about a myriad of characters who are all either trying to get an achieve an ancient power, stop it from happening, or decide who gets it and who doesn't, depending on the character. While the plot, at its most basic form, doesn't sound all that thrilling the character development is absolutly stunning. I really felt for those characters and loved them.
It was a wonderful four books.
The Lays of Belliariand by J.R.R. Tolkein was very good, but it's all written as a, well, lay. It takes a bit to get into the swing of reading it. I'd give a synopsis, but I can't give one that doesn't sound retarded. It was really well written and I can't do it justice.
While I haven't read them, The Dark Tower series by Stephen King sounds to be right up your alley. Fantasy, horror, and the general crazy genius that is Mr. King.
The Dante Club is historical fiction. Fiction so fictious that you can't help but wish that these old authors really did live the epic lives Mr. Matthew Pearl gives them. It's a horror story about a group of scholars who were part of the (real) Dante Club, which had the task of translating Dante's Inferno into English. However, unlike the reality, as they are translating it a series of gruesome murders is taking place in Boston that is eerily similar to the tortures found in Inferno.
With or without reading Dante's Inferno, The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl is an excellent story.

@Retro TV: I suggest the Anite Blake Hunter series written by Laurell K. Hamilton. It is has fantasy/horror/gore mixed into a girl who can take anything she faces. Really good book series so far, I have only read to the third book.

Horror fantasy? I can help! Although most of these are also romantic...
Christine Feehan's "Dark" Series is really good... Vampires with a twist.
Sherrilyn Kenyon's "Dream Hunters" and "Dark Hunters" are good if you're into Greek mythology being played with.
Kerrelyn Sparks is really good for modern vampires.
Sheila Stewart "Discovery in Passion", isn't as romantic as it sounds, deals with ghosts and people in small towns holding on to the past.
Patricia Briggs "Moon Bound" dark fantasy. Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, Shifters, Demons...
Ever enjoyable Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicals...
Anything by Karen Marie Moning.
MaryJanice Davidson has "Undead and Un-"(Unwed, Unappreciated, Unwelcome, Unemployed, etc) a vampire series, also a mermaid series which is a little light- hearted.
Katie Macalister has the "Aisling Grey" series, (main female is a demon lord, a guardian and a wyvern's mate) and then theres the spin-off "Silver Dragons" series, which deals with the dragons of Aisling Grey. She also has a series called Dark Ones. Dark Vampires with a little comedic twist...
If you want more info on any of these books just tell me.
