I want to know from those who've already read it how long they took to finish either one of them. I'm planning on borrowing either one, or maybe both. And I need your opinion about it. Thanks in advance!:)

Inferno > Paradiso in my opinion. I love them both (and Purgatory as well) and have read them several times now. They're fantastic reads, but be prepared to take a bit of time with them. Sometimes the concepts are a little hard to understand, and it helps to read them both twice over.

Well, it took me 2 weeks to finish the inferno, but that's only cause I was distracted by a lot of other things.. though I should mention that I'm a really fast reader..
Don't let the length of them discourage you.. they are both great books! And you can include purgatory too, since that is a part of the 'series'. :P

It's kind of a sin to read only one part of the Divine Comedy... If you only read one part you'll have an incredibly limited idea of what Dante was going after. If you're reading it for literary purposes, that is.

Go for the Mandelbaum translation- It's considered one of the best modern ones.

I always mean to read all of these in a row to get the full effect and wind up pooping out in the middle of Purgatorio. D=

I did however just find out my library has the Longfellow editions of the trilogy, so I'll be trying again. =D Apparently his translation was very vivid. (And probably just good to read from a historic perspective.)

We started reading the series in my English/ Lit. class and I loved the Inferno. We only read parts in class but I borrowed the book from my teacher and read it. I have to say it was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Dante really is/was incredible. I've not had a chance to read the other two, though I agree with some of the others who posted here; it would practically be a sin in and of itself just to read one or two of the 'series'.
