Sorry if there's already a thread for this. I searched and didn't find one.
What classic book have you read that you liked?
I'm reading The Maltese Falcon right now, because I have to do a presentation about the author, and I figure I might as well know what i'm talking about.
I also like Jake Eyre and Animal Farm.

I read Animal Farm, it was a twisted satire of how communist Russia was like. I even watched the movie. O_O I wouldn't say so much that I liked it, but it was enjoyable. It was required reading for my ninth grade class. I didn't think it would be considered "Classical"; but how do you determine what is a classic or not? I thought stories like Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudiced, Moby Dick, stories like that where.
What about The Giver? Is that a classic? I liked that one, made me sad at the ending...
what a strange world.
Another strange book was A Brave New World... O_O

Hmmm...To Kill a Mockingbird was a good one.
And so was Of Mice and Men.

i can honestly say that there aren't many 'classics' that i like... but that means i also have to admit that i haven't really made it through a whole lot of them either... they tend to just not be my kinda style...
but a few years ago i bought 'pride and prejudice' for a women's literature class i was taking and again, i couldn't make it through... i would start it over again a few months later to the same result, and this went on for a few years... it was until this past month, that i finally read it all and i really liked it... it took me about 5 years, but i finally did it!

I don't know if you'd consider this a "classic", but I had to read The Canterbury Tales" for a literature class and found most of them to be quite enjoyable. I thought I was going to be bored out of my mind, but I found myself liking the humor in a lot of them.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms
But it's a Chinese classic, does that count?
I've never read animal farm but I have seen the movie. It was...enjoyable. I was one of the few in class who understood its references.

I also for got about Black Beauty I really love this book. I also found it to be really sad.

I'm A Gothic person.
Recently our teacher made us read The Monkey's Paw. When I heard this I was really exited, because (a) It's one of my favorites, and (b) Because it's one of my favorites that means the homework would be extremely easy! >8D
Edgar Allan Poe is the only author I can think of that writes mostly Gothic Horror that I like. Even though his works aren't really my over all favorites. =/
For instance Stevenson. All of his works aren't Gothic, but if you know me well, like my friends you would say I'm a real Strange Case dork. My favorite that no book will ever beat: Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Gosh, that novella is love.
But, it's a real bummer that we don't read it in British Lit. next year. :'(
We read Frankenstein though. :')

I recently read Fahrenheit 451 which was amazing. I'm kind of a sci-fi geek, and I love love love classic science fiction. So of course I loved Frankenstein, and Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. A Clockwork Orange is one of my favorites as well.
I like Shakespeare (mostly the plays), haven't read a thing by Poe I didn't love. Oh! And William Blake! Love William Blake.
I just can't stand Dickens.
FFFF I ALMOST FORGOT ALICE IN WONDERLAND. And Through the Looking Glass. I've read that about 80 gazillion times. That's classic lit, right? xD

I think one of my favorites would have to be Gilgamesh, it's such a wonderful story, and that's the most classic one can get, it predates the Bible. I also really like the Metamorphosis by Ovid as well as the story of Jason and Medea; again by Ovid.

i don't really know what books would count as classics, but i'm sure that there aren't ver many i've read. i think the only book i've read that could be counted as a classic was Kidnapped. i think that's what it was called anyway. honestly, i didn't like it. it was so boring, i found staring at my wall more entertaining, and that was before my wall was covered in pictures! even my mom said that the book was lame as hell.

Dracula by Bram Stroker and The Phantom of the Opera ( AKA: Le Fantome de l'Opera ) by Gaston Leroux
Dracula was a very interesting book that my friend from Romania recomened. The plot was well thought out and mysterious. It was difficult to read since it was old english but I still enjoyed it. :)
The Phantom of the Opera was a very dark humored book, yet it had a VERY serious horror feel to it. On top of that it kept you on your toes ( or keeping your hands at the level of your eyes ) While reading, I love this book still today and even though i've re-read it quite alot I don't mind re-reading it more. :)
Oh and I almost forgot, Make Room! Make Room! by Harry Harrison is one of my favorite books too. It was pretty much a book on the future and how the world would be over-populated. they even made a movie for it called Soylent Green.
