I am a huge fan of both of these wonderful authors. They are each in their own right great authors. I first started reading Stephen King but have found myself turning towards Dean Koontz lately.
Who do you guys perfer? Which books do you like?
Stephen King votes- 5
Dean Koontz- 2

I believe that book is Christine. I still haven't read that one.
My favorite King book is Eye of the Dragon.

I have read more Dean Koontz and love his stories but always find myself disappointed at the end. I think my vote would have to go to Stephen King sense even though I've read fewer of his books I was content the whole way through.

I honestly don't remember all the titles. It was a few years ago and I read about six or more books of his in a row and every ending disappointed me. Since then I just bothered to remember that Dean Koontz books weren't my things and not to spend time reading them. Then again it's just my opinion and taste.

Stephen King. I love his writing (and how he makes a cameo in almost all of his films--lol-worthy!)

I love when writers do that. M. Night Shyamalan does that too.

i'm from maine so i guess i'm obligated to favor stephen king... but i have read a few of his books and liked them but it was nothing i really really loved and have to read again... i have read more dean koontz and i really love the 'odd thomas' books... sooo... i guess i like dean koontz more...
on another note, a while back when the movie 'the others' was in theaters, i went to see it with some of my siblings and i swear to god, stephen king was in there... he came in after lights went out and jetted out of the theater so fast after the movie was over i swear there was a dust trail... i went to school with a girl who worked at that theater and she said he shows up all the time... it was so weird...

I want to read the Odd Thomas books. I read the manga and liked the story.
That is so cool. Just imagine working there and selling him popcorn.

the odd thomas books (there are 4: 'odd thomas', 'forever odd', 'brother odd', and 'odd hours') are really good... the 3rd one is a little weird, but all the stories flow together for the most part... the first one will always be the best, no doubt... if you read any, read that one ... 'in odd we trust' the manga is a prequel to the first book... the artists rendition of the characters are pretty spot on too...
and do you think stephen king eats popcorn? for some reason i can't picture it haha

I haven't read much by either authors, but I really adore both of them. Out of what Dean Koontz has written, I`ve only read ' Midnight ' ( which was interesting for the most part, but I didn't quite enjoy it ), ' Snatcher ' ( which I enjoyed relatively well ), ' The Undercity ' ( which was short, but I actually found somewhat interesting, and the title of the book made me think quite a bit before cracking the book open ), ' Odd Thomas ' - ' Forever Odd ' ( I actually read ' Forever Odd ' before I read ' Odd Thomas ', and the second was interesting enough to make me hunt down and read the first - I want to read the others, but I haven't been able to at this point ), and another book, which I can't remember the name of.
I didn't know about Odd's manga/comic though. O . o
By Stephen King I`ve read ' Carrie ', ' Salem's Lot ', ' The Shining ', ' The Dead Zone ', ' Cujo ', ' Christine ', ' Pet Sematary ' ( both of them ), ' Storm of the Century ' - and all after watching the movies of them first, as that's how I first fell in love with the male. The books I`ve read that I fell in love with were ' Cell ', and ' The Dark Tower ' series.
I think I personally prefer King over Koontz, but that is mostly for his book ' Cell ', which I for some reason absolutely adored ( I have absolutely no clue why ), and his general writing style.

I haven't read any of the Koontz books. And the only King we have in come is "Pet Sematary". I loved that one.
I'm glad to hear "Cell" is good. I just bought it for my mom for Christmas. She's the one that got me started on King.

I`m hoping to/planning on reading some more books by Koontz, but as I'd rather have the novels in my hands when I read them and lack money, it probably wont be any time soon.
Ah! The ' Pet Sematary ''s were wonderful books, imo. I preffered the first to the second, and after reading them and being able to compare them to the movies, the second was dreadful and the books were definitely better - might just be me, though, I`m not quite sure.
' Cell ' was a wonderful read, for me. Once your mom's finished reading it, perhaps you should have a go at it yourself? If it's something you might be interested in, even a little, it's definitely worth a go. I love things/situations similar to ' Cell ', and found it a wonderful read all the way through. King's writing in it is what made me fall in love with him officially.

I'm not a big fan of his earlier movies. Really though I'm not a fan of many movies from books.
I plan on reading it. All of the King and Koontz books are her's but their all in my room. lol
I just went to town and found out our book store is closing. It's so sad. Everything was 40% off. So I bought Odd Thomas.

I generally don't bother watching a movie until after I`ve read the book, but that's only if I know the movie was a book before I watch it. Otherwise . . yea. But I`m planning on making the exception for 'A Clockwork Orange', simply because I cannot find the book anywhere locally - but that's another matter altogether.
I watched King's movies when I was younger, and then I moved onto the series that he created - such as Kingdom Hospital, which was after I'd read more of his work. I was really into the dark/gloomy/twisted/mind turning and somewhat suspenseful stories that the male weaved and the settings. All of that was and still is amazing.
King's details when he writes are fantastic, in my opinion, as I`m the type of person to really enjoy/adore picturing things mentally, and the more details there are - the better I`m able to try and have ago at picturing what King had in mind when he wrote each particular part. ' Cell ' really did that for me. * totally a fangirl for that one book alone *
I`m sorry to hear your bookstore is closing as well. It's really sad when that happens. Were they not getting enough business or something? . . and, I suppose, at least you got a good book out of it. Is it the only bookstore around?

I loved Kingdom Hospital.
I can't wait to read Cell now.
No, they said that they made pretty good money. All the schools around here shopped there. And it is the only bookstore around. Now the nearest one is over an hour away. Looks like it is just Amazon from now on.
And I love your outfit so far.

Kingdom Hospital was amazing. I loved the characters, the setting - the plot. Everything that happened, pretty much. I think I might end up rewatching it, maybe going on a Stephen King binge for Christmas or some such thing - this whole topic has sparked up a craving sort of feeling for Koontz and King /horror in general.
Ah, then isn't it a bit odd that they're closing? Hopefully you all will get another bookstore within a year or two. Purchasing books online or going that far with this economy is kind of expensive - save for in the rare occasion you can find the books cheaper online/elsewhere.
On another note, has anyone read Stephen King's ' The Langoliers '? I`ve recently remembered watching it when I was younger, and wondering if the book was good.
On an even further note, but for Koontz, I don't think I`ve watched any of the books to movies he's done, nor really heard that much about them. Am I alone on that one, or just oblivious?

I know. I've been watching a lot of horror movies. No King though sadly.
I hope so too. I usually buy books on amazon anyways because depending on the book I can actually get them cheaper on there. A lot of books have a deal that if you buy three books you get one free and at $25 you get free shipping.
I haven't even heard of that one. Is it one of his short stories?
I didn't realize his movies had been made into movies.
