So my friend got this book from the Ravenloft series which I had seen many times sitting on bookshelves and thought they looked interesting but for some reason or whatever, I never bought them. This book was given to me to inspire my ideas of a similar world since I am being a dungeon master in dungeons and dragons for about five different people who are taking part in my campaign that I have created.
The book starts off with a character actually from the Dragonlance series named Lord Soth who was a knight of the red rose which was supposed to be one of the highest honors of the land. He married the richest nobleman's daughter and got his own keep and many whispered of his great deeds he had accomplished until the fateful day he rescued a small group of elven maids in the forest from a marauding group of ogres. He fell in love with one elven maid in particular and he had his wife killed so he could marry this elven maid. Word got out somehow and he was shamed throughout the entire land and they were going to ex-communicate him or execute him; but his thirteen loyal retainers rescued him from certain death and they holed up in Dargankeep *(I think that is how it is spelled...) The other knights of the same order seiged his keep and he was destined for certain doom. He was granted by his God one last chance to redeem his bad name after other murders he had committed, after adultery, and abuse of his current wife and other subjects. He failed to accomplish this task instead he was told that his wife's Isolde's baby was not his that she was carrying and he confronted her and the castle caught on fire and he refused to save her or his child and the elf woman cursed him and thus the book starts three hundred and fifty years after the curse.
