So my question or what I was wondering is more like it. Does anyone here every predict the outcome of a book, no matter what the big, epic twist is? It doesn't even have to be a predictable book, does anyone predict the outcome of a book that oh lets say, a lot of people who read the book, didn't see coming? I wonder this because every time I read a book, it never fails that I end up predicting the outcome of certain twists. Most of the time I don't even try, but as I read every possibility comes to me, and nine times out of ten I end up being correct. Its not that it ruins the story its just, that I cant seem to find a book that can stoop me. Naturally I got to wondering if there were more people, who had been in similar situations.

Nope... I remember I was about seven and I read The philosophers stone and me and my Opa (granddad) spent a while talking about Ron and Hermione ending up together. That's just one example of course, I often jump to conclusions.

There's no problem in predicting the outcome of the book. At times I will guess the outcome of the book at the end. Probably just means you have a creative mind and can guess an ending :)

I predict the ending of a book all the time. I don't usually hold it against a book. Now, there will be times when I predict them because of horrible cliches or other such things and sometimes that annoys me, but usually I don't mind it at all. To me, it just means that you're a good a reader and (for the most part) the author has written about his/her characters so well that the reader can understand their mind and their reactions to events.

As far as books that've "stopped" me, I can only think of a couple of Clive Barker's short stories (Books of Blood), but that's because a lot of them come right the heck out of nowhere. That's part of their charm I think. There was also Brave New World by Adolus Huxley. I guessed the general outcome, but as far as how a certain character would end up at the very end, I didn't guess it. Of course, it was the first distopian book I'd read so that might've been part of it. (Aside from The Giver I guess, but the concept of distopia hadn't really sunk in when I read that book for some reason.)

There was also House of Leaves. Admittedly, that one might've been because I was far, far too absorbed in it to even have thoughts outside the book. That's by Mark Z. Danielwiski (sp? I can never spell his last name.), if you're interested.

I often have that happen to me. There's only one exception - Mysteries by Agatha Christie. I never see the end coming - the best I've gotten is once I predicted who the murderer was about halfway through one of her books but I couldn't for the life of me figure out the motive!

Most of the books i read i try & predict what will happen & with most of them it ends up happening, while with some only half of what i predict happens.

Thanks for recommendations ^^

I guess as a whole it just depends on a book itself, and how the author writes. Still I find it interesting to read all of your opinions.
