So, my Mom says in order to let me see the movie "Easy A", I need to read The Scarlet Letter since that is what it is derived from.

And actually, I am enjoying it.

She even told me it may have to be a required read in my later highschool years.

And, it is really sad though.. does anything bad happen at the end? I do not think so..

It all just seems kind of depressing about Hester having to wear her scarlet letter A..

These days, there are people who would strut around with it proudly, like a badge of honor...

Walking with one's head up in spite of others saying bad things about one is kinda a theme I am exploring.

I'll be honest and say that I haaaaaated that book ^^; In all honesty I got to about page fifty and just couldn't read any more. Still, I got through the plot of the book with my friend, and it has a lot of deep symbolism inside of it. It is indeed a very sad story with a lot of deep meaning to it; the plot itself is good, however, the way it was written was just so horrifically boring for me.

Perhaps you'd like a book called Tess of the D'urbervilles. It's a book that similar to the scarlet letter that you might like... It's also a sad story though.

I watched Easy A yesterday, and I think I'll look for a copy of the Scarlett Letter next time I'm at the library.

Scarlet Letter is NOTHING like Easy A. @[email protected] Just gotta say that now. It is not a happy ending and the prose is VERY heavy. It's required in most high schools (junior year) as part of the English curriculum. The book struggles with ideas about guilt, female oppression, and ostracism.

It's really hard to me to say I don't like this book or that book... but I really did not like reading The Scarlet Letter. :(

I don't really expect it to be like Easy A, the movie just intrigued me enough to make me want to read it.

I honestly think that the ending is kinda bittersweet especially considering that the one who cannot be named for fear of ruining the entire book is dead but Hester comes to terms with what she did and her daughter (forgot her name it's been a while) finally becomes more human than a sprite as the book implied. I really wanted the dead person to live but after what happened yeah...I could see it...
