I love them so much -- I try to go to them whenever I can. Some have fixed prices and some weigh your books and charge you that way.

But the best and worst one I ever went to was at a one college campus -- it was unexpected and they were giving a ton of books away for free -- they had history books, science books, and a million art books. I did not want to take so many, but the librarians brought me plastic bags and insisted I take more -- no one else seemed to be taking any of them, and I must have been the only one who showed any interest. I even insisted to pay something, but they wouldn't let me and I really wished they had.

I felt horrible -- it was like when you go to someone's house for dinner and you are full, but then they pack half of it in containers and practically wrestle you to take it home. I just wanted a couple of books -- and they wouldn't let me take a couple! I ended up with literally fifty books!

Haha, I would have loved that. Every year our town does something called the book-o-rama, where everybody brings in their unwanted books and they get sold for everywhere between fifty cents and two dollars. I love it, there's always something good there.

I love library book sales too! They are just so much fun. I try to go to them when I know that they are going on because there's always one book there that I want to read and sometimes there are books that I know will be helpful for a hobby, class work or a great gift! Plus, often times there are also some old movies for sale and at 50 cents or a dollar its worth it to try a few out.

The public library where I live does that about once a year. Unfortunately, there seems to be a good reason why a lot of those books are being sold in the first place.

I do occasionally find strange things there that no one else wants, though. Last year I got several books on the topic of why the world was going to end in 2000...

Yes, some libraries don't have a good selection, but others surprise me. I went to one public library sale and they had a ton of theater books -- something I would not have thought to get normally...

The public library in my town had one last summer. I went intending to get only a couple books and left with two bags full of books XD Some were brand new too, and they were selling them from around 50 cents up to a dollar or two. :)

I work in a library that puts on two book sales every year. I know that a lot of the books are discards, but the community seems to donate a large number of very new and downright lovely books. The only thing that bohters me are all the Danielle Steel books. We had to give her a shelf to herself in the last book sale because there were so many. I remember once when someone donated so many harlequin romances that I built a tower with them. Just to clarify; all the books have to be looked at, to see if the library could use them in their collection first. No way would we need those, So I had fun :)

Even though I work there I tend to buy bags and bags of them. On Saturdays (the sale lasts a week) it's buck a bag day. I've fit 24 books into a plastic Wal-mart bag without it breaking. When I got home I realized that I had two copies of the same book, one in paperback and the other in hardcover! I love book sales, but I don't have room for them anymore...

I like looking through library book sales. My local library has these occasionally. Don't usually get anything because either it's outdated, not interesting or I've already read it.

I was kind of sad to see manga and manhwa for sale for 20 cents (AUD) each. Sure, they were damaged but still readable but if it's the only copy the library has and they don't plan on replacing it then it makes it that much harder for people like me who like to read hard copies to read them...if that makes sense.

What I like best is the discovery of old books at library sales. I occasionally go to the large, bag-of-book sale events-- but I can't do that anymore. My bookshelves are buckling-- or they would be buckling, if the stacks of books below each shelf weren't supporting the stacks of books above it.

My library, though, has an ongoing booksale. It's like crack, and it will kill me. Or finally topple my bookshelf. They have all of these books. I start in the "teaser" section, because I just checked out books and it's right there. I see a book that I can genuinely justify buying. Like-- hey, a kid's book for the midget I sit for! or, hey! an illustrated classic!

And then I wander into the Store Area to pay.

Here's where I break down. They have these old, beautiful hardbounds for two dollars. They have books of essays. The lady asks, "Are you ready?" And, impulsive, I crack under pressure. Somehow I'm buying 5 new books. My shelf cannot take that many new books.

Just recently I got Stanley Pashko's American Boy's Omnibus, published in 1945. When I have daughters, they will be raised on this. It has guides to knots, slings, codes, hiking, first aid... so useful and fun. I love it. And it's pretty. Old. It's one of those hardbounds that feels just slightly textured and smooth on the cover.

I love book sales. The last time I went to one I had to put some back because I'd only brought twenty dollars with me. ^^;; I'd love to go to one that had a buck a bag sale....Then again, I'd have to buy a new bookshelf on the way home I'm sure.

Library book sales are awesome. I also like volunteering for them, so I know most of the books that I been sorted and boxed. It's pretty cool, especially the boxes I put the manga in.

We don't have a buck a bag day at our book sale. We use to have half off day, but I don't know what happened.

Some library systems far well than others I guess. :S

Anyways when I do buy books, I find interesting books at times. Sometimes I buy manga and sometimes I buy other random books. One sale year I bought books for a non-profit. It's fun to look at all the boxes and such.

I hope to help with the book sale with the next library system I run across with. :D It's a bit more fun to volunteer for a book sale and book sorting. That way you know the ins and outs. Also you can help people more too. ;)

They just had a sale at my library last week. I only got four books though because my boyfriend was with me and was giving me one of those "come on already they're just books, let's move" looks.

My library sells books for 10 cents, whether it's a hard cover or not. I believe that if I went through all my books however, only about 1/4 of them would be from the library.

If I had the time, the plastic tubs and the money, I would have a living room and bedroom stacked with tubs of books. I don't even use a bookshelf anymore, tubs are easier for me, and they store so well under my bed, behind my couch, next to my window, and in the basement.

I love the $5 bag sales... :) I've not been to one that gave away free books before. Must keep an eye out!

This site is useful to those who also love the sales: Book Sale Finder
