I personally loved this book series because the characters were so far from the stereotypes that I just absorbed them like a sponge, and the plot was amazing too!
Bartimaeus was the best- he always had something to say, and the way that there were footnotes to show his underlying (and oftentimes amusing) thoughts on situations was really unique.
It's a great book series I would recommend to anyone who hasn't read it.... But I don't want to go into an extreme amount of detail on the plot in case you haven't read it.
Has anyone heard news on the movie that's apparently being created on the first book? I don't know whether it's a hoax or not....
So let's chat!

Yeah, the first book was the Amulet of Samarkand or something like that. I loved the series though- the third book was the best in my opinion- the second was kind of bland.... But Bartimaeus was a lovable character.

I love Heart no Kuni No Alice! I wish I could have played the game that it was based off of! But games like those are never released outside of Japan! TT^TT

Ooh! I love The Bartimaeus Trilogy! Bartimaeus was always my favourite character. Ever heard the audiobook version? That's the version I have since I can't actually read the originsl cuz the print is too small and it is brilliant! The reader (Steven Pacey) really brings the character to life -smirks- especially when Bartimaeus is being all sarcastic.
I've heard rumors of a film being made but appart from taht there hasn't been much. I'll be keeping my ears open for any other rumors though.

I remember reading this a few years ago. I thought the way the author intertwined the magic and non-magic communities was believable and interesting. Bartimaeus was definitely my favorite character, but Nathaniel and Kitty were both excellent character as well. All in all, excellent books and I would recommend them to anyone.
I haven't heard anything about it being turned into a movie. It could be an excellent one, though.

The characterisations are what really made the books I think. The characters were so intereting and the development between them made you want to read more and more of the books to know what was happening to them. I think tha'ts really what makes a good story.
Ah taht's the thing though. The film could either be good or bad bdepending on who directs, who they get to write the script adn who the acters are, not to mention the special effects (and they'll need a lot of them).

Bartimaeus? That's absolutely one of my favorite series! Jonathon Stroud is an absolute genius for coming up with such a loveable set of characters.
Ooh, I hope the movie rumors are true xD. Bartimaeus would definitely make a great movie. I do agree with Magician Girl Mirani... I would hate to see a movie like that ruined by bad directing or casting. But now is a good time for magic-themed movies to come out because of all the great special effects and techniques that are being developed.

That was my favorite part of the book. Bartimaeus was something real special. Like everyone else he was my favorite. He had a certain air about him that just made you laugh at all the little jokes he pulled. Kicking people's butts as a small mouse form when trying to enter that "party" - first book maybe? Can't quite remember.
I read them back in middle school and I was surprised not that many people had read the series. I have books in my lovely "library", I sometimes open them up to read one of his jokes.
I do love Nathaniel though. Loved his name from the start, planning on naming my kid Nathaniel, but he got on my nerves in the second book. Toward the end I just went back to loving him, only to be slapped when I read the endning [ sorta felt like he did that to me --- > :feesh: just when I start loving him he strikes ]:< ]

I remember reading this series a while back. It was really fascinating, from what I remember... I think I have one or two of the books in storage somewhere. Reading through this thread has brought on a strong urge to go find them and re-read...
I don't really recall the plots for any of the books, but I remember being so engrossed in them that I didn't sleep sometimes. Always good when I book literally keeps you up all night.
