Vampires vs. Vampires

Vampire books seem to go through fades. Right now we're dealing with the Twilight craze. Though it maybe hard for some to grasp vampires did exist before Edward Cullen.

I guess I'd like to start a bit of a debate on vampire books. Which ones do you like more then others. Say the Twilight series vs. Vampire Diaries. Or Interview of a Vampire vs. Bram Stoker's.

What do you think?

I haven't finished Bram Stoker's Dracula, but Interview with the vampire was pretty damn win, and I got sucked in, whereas I got sick of dracula not long in.

As for the other couple - Vampire diaries any day. I just prefer the story.

Twilight did get me into vampire books in the first place though. I read twilight and then when I saw Interview With The Vampire on the library shelf I went "Oooh! Vampires!" And got hooked into something genuinely awesome.

I kind of mean older vampire books vs. new vampire books. Different authors interpretation on the same subject. Differences vs. similarities I guess. The Vampire Diaries and Twilight series were written more for a younger crowd while that might not have been a consideration when Bram Stokers or Interview with a Vampire were written.

Every Vampire book vs. Twilight... every other series wins. I've never come across anything as bad. Anne Rice, Bram Stoker they were both amazing. I have yet to try Vampire Diaries, but even Vampire Kisses, which is pretty much a goth girls Twilight, was better!

I've read Vampire Diaries when I was in high school and thought it was an ok series even though it is aimed towards a younger crowd. I've also read a couple of the Vampire Kisses and think it's ok. I just started reading a series called Vampire Academy which is interesting.

My favorite out of all of the vampire books I've read is the entire Vampire Chronicles series by Anne Rice. In fact, they're probably my favorite books I've read in my entire life. It's not necessarily just the fact that they're about vampires and I like her characters and plots; it's her poetic style of writing and the philosophical and religious aspects she manages to weave into the stories that make them so much more meaningful to me than the majority of vampire books out there these days.

That's how I tend to be with most books, regardless of the topic, though. I normally prefer books with more depth to them than most of the teenage-centered books that have gotten so popular in recent years.

Other than that, I do like how Anne Rice depicts vampires, and I like the overall atmosphere of her stories as well. I've actually really wanted to visit New Orleans since reading her work. xD
