Twilight
Love it? Hate it? Why? Lets have an actual discussion here!
I'll tell my view piont later. |
Wow, five days and this forum hasn't become a screeching, argumentative war zone? I commend this site for its maturity. On most other boards I've been to this would have been a mess by now.
Personally I very much dislike Twilight. This is because of a decent repertoire of reasons, a few of which I will list. First I'd like to say that I bear no ill will to anyone who likes the series or the author immensely and am stating this simply as an opinion and not as a means to offend anyone. The number one reason would likely be the characters. I've actually read the entire series myself, so I'm not just talking out of my arse. I either disliked or flat out hated the vast majority of characters from the books. Alice Cullen, Charlie Swan, Jacob Black and Carlisle Cullen were the only ones that I actually found endearing. Bella was a whiny bint and Edward was the generic beautiful, solemn emo kid love interest who appeared to have no actual purpose in the books aside from providing the main character something to swoon and angst over. An added secondary reason for my dislike of the series is...well. My mother is a Twimom. My forty four year old mother has become a squealing, bubbling fangirl for actors that are a fraction of her age. She talks about the books constantly and takes a creepy sort of pleasure out of making me and my brother squirm whenever she goes off on a rant about how "secksy edwurd iz". I believe that if your mother behaved in this way, regardless of what spawned it, you wouldn't be too keen on the series either. |
:O Poor you. It would be so annoying to have a mum like that! Especially when Edward is not "secksy".
I don't hate twilight, but I don't like it either, if that makes sense. And I'm also with Miyu Miyu here, no offence to those who like it . Bella gets on my nerves because she is kinda like the main character from a shoujo.. (sorry for bring manga into this, but I can't explain it any other way ). Half of the book is spent on how she feels, which is pretty repeatitive. And in the movie, the person who plays her isn't accurate. It agitates me some times. Edward, T_T he has mood swings just like Bella. Annoying. What else I didn't like about Twilight was the fact that it was all about vampires, yet there was really hardly any fighting, and the end of the series... What a let down! Personally, eclipse is my favourite book because it has a decent fight scene. *cheers*. But some of the characters a pretty awesome, like Jasper, Alice and Charlie :). And the overall storyline, I like that but, too much lingering on feelings we already knew *sighs*. Despite all this, I've read the series 5 times . The things you will do when boredom comes to stay! |
Well, here's how I see it:
My friend loves the series. Loves it, adores it, quotes it, vomits it when I'm least expecting her to. However, I have noticed that the only thing she likes about the books is the "love scenario". She ate up all that Meyer crap about Edward and Isabella looked at each other and it was instalove, that whole "amg there is nothing else to live for but you, Eddikins, you're my whole world" and how she had a permanent hole in her chest when he left (to most of us, that's where the heart is). She didn't even like that Isabella had Jacob on the hook and that she turned into a hermit when Edward left. The person, not the cookie. I hate it. Despise with the passion of a thousand burning suns. The main character, even Meyer herself said the lack of physical description was with the purpose of being vague so she could easily be relatable. When Edward first laid eyes on her, he almost threw up in his mouth. I mean, for heaven's sakes, can no one take a hint? Plus, she spends the first book swooning over a dude who wants to suck her blood and dry humping him whenever they kiss, and the second book whining about a dude who left her and crying because a super hot dude likes her, but oh for shame, he doesnt sparkle, so he's not good enough for her. I just don't see it. Apart from the super instalove and the whole "you're my world" thing, there's nothing going for this book, which is why it's main fanbase is little teenage girls. No offence. |
You said what I couldn't NeuzaKC. And you said it perfectly. I like your way with words.

Um... I like it but not totally in love with it like some of my friend...
