I thought it deserving of its own thread. Unfortunately for me Interview with the Vampire was the very first vampire book I ever read and it was so well written I find it hard to read the majority of vampire books I come across. I also didn't mind her need to describe everything; you either like it or you don't. I read it in Jr High so it definitely set my standards for everything else I've ever read.
I can't remember if I finished that book or not. I might have got overwhelmed by the giant walls of text on each page. Either way, I liked the Vampire Armand better. I also remember enjoying Memnoch the Devil, even though a majority of people didn't seem to.
My favourite is Armand. The Vampire Armand was an awesome book, but I admit that until I read that my favourite was Claudia.
Man, I've only read as far as the Tale of the Body Thief but unless something went major amazing with Armand in The Vampire Armand I can't imagine him ever being my favorite character. He was such an untenable bastard in the first 4 books. :)
The Vampire Armand is all about his backstory, how he became Armand. He has like three different names. One when he was a kid, one when he lives in Venice (At that point he is Amadeo, and he's awesome.) Then he gets snatched up by this cult thing and they rename him Armand and turn him into a complete arse.
I own every Vampire Chronicle up to Blood Canticle. The last Vampire book Rice decided to write. I also own both 'Tales of the New Vampires' Pandora and Vittorio's respective stories.^.^
Interview was an amazing book, but I agree Louis is a crybaby. My favorites would actually have to be Memnoch the Devil, I loved the historical view Rice gave us, Blood and Gold, Marius' story, or Blackwood Farm, I'm a huge fan of Quinn Blackwood and Goblin ^.^ I cried at the death of
I really need to pick those back up again when I've got a bit of time to myself for reading. I had heard that the later books kinda jumped the shark a little.
I've actually been trying to reread them myself, since I read the first few pages of Tale of the Body Thief (so I don't count that) and haven't really touched it since. I didn't really care much for Armand, he kind of bored me later on...but his backstory could be interesting.
This is a bit tangential, but I bought Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt assuming it would be a tongue in cheek type thing a couple years ago. When I realized it wasn't, it sat on my shelf for a long time until I got bored and read it, and it was still a pretty good read. I guess she's writing a four-part series about Jesus.
Like I said, it's tangential, but this has already turned into an Anne Rice topic. :)
Haha I see this!
I didn't read any of those ones because I was unsure if they'd be any good or not. Especially since they were so different compared to what I had previously read by her. Maybe if they still have it I can get it at Borders before they close.
I actually like the book. Sadly though because of my ADD i can't sit and finish it. My mind keeps refusing to do so. Which is weird since i love reading detail large books. ><
I guess it started because more like a textbook to me of a vampire history or a biography that my brain was like ..... no.
I watched the movie Interview with the vampire it was good but the book I am just reading and it is more sad than the movie I like Lestat better he is more killer and more understandi9ng of the world than anyone other and I feel bad about his life his family didn't like him at all and he was a good guy before he became what he was. I like Lestat I think he is good looking and the book is one of the best I ever red in my life.
I've never read that book, however I have seen the film and I've been dying to read it for about two years now, I just haven't gotten around to reading it. D:
I have enjoyed Anne Rice's work, but I have to agree that I found Louis to a bit whiny. I thought the movie was more enjoyable and not so long winded ;)
