When I read a story I imagine everything, from characters to setting, in my own way. Probably everybody does this. And then come the movies and illustrations that don't match what I imagined and even if I like them I'm still a bit disappointed.

My question is:

Have you ever seen a character or place from a story that matched the way you imagined it? And if you did, how did you feel about it?

I never thought about this until I saw my version of the Mad Hatter in a music video. I don't think the character in the clip was supposed to be the Hatter but it sure matched the imagine I had in mind. It felt a bit surreal to see him.

I don't think it ever has. I makes me sad.

The worst was Sirius Black from the Harry Potter films. He was such a let down. I totally imagined him hot. xD

I don't normally have a very clear image of my mind of what characters or places look like, for some reason. I guess my mind is just boring when it comes to that sort of thing...

I'm not sure that this exactly counts, but back in middle school, though, there was this one kid who looked EXACTLY like how both my best friend and I imagined Grover from Percy Jackson and the Olympians. What made it even more hilarious was the fact that we both came to that conclusion before we mentioned it to one another. Then the actor who played him in the movie looked nothing like him, though, and that kid moved away or something, so that kind of ruined it.

Yeah, Grover was a bit of a let down. I always pictured an Artie-like character, a bit dorky like that. (Artie from Glee, in case nobody got that)

Probably one of the worst for me was the new cover of "The Woman Who Rides Like A Man" by Tamora Pierce. She was depicted just like those typical love triangle girls, and that just ISN'T Alanna. The new covers are all as bad as each other. Have a look, here.

I guess it doesn't happen to often. But seeing a character as I see it in my mind was pretty weird.

For a moment there I thought it jumped out of my imagination or something.

Here is a link to the clip where I saw the character that looks like the Hatter in my mind.

I always imagine characters when I am reading.
Sometimes the author does such a good job of describing the character, it's very easy to see them in your mind.

For the most part, I am very disgusted with movies made from books, because the people playing the characters are nothing like what I imagined.

I was the same with Sirius Black, I expected him to be good looking.

Another character that didn't look anything like I expected was Gurgi the creature in the Black Cauldron movie. In the book cover of the book of three, which is the first book where the black cauldron was the second, Gurgi was drawn as a sort of large monkey-like creature with long fur on his head. However in the movie he looked more like a standing dog. And it was animated by Disney.....but that movie was pretty bad overall.

I totally agree. That is absolutely nothing like Alanna. But I suppose that typical love triangle girls sell well. Its always sad when a good book has a bad cover though because people so often just judge a book by the cover and consequently some really good books don't get read as much as they should.

For me the worst imagination vs. movie clash was 'Sahara' by Clive Cussler. Throughout all the Dirk Pitt books. Al Giordino is,a short, very muscular italian man with dark curly hair. So what actor fits that description: Steve Zahn apparently. It's like they didnt even try.

Yea but so far I think only Sahara has been made into a movie.

When I watched this one movie (I've forgotten which book it was based off of by now, as I had watched it in the 6th grade or so) about a boy in a wheelchair with a friend who, though very big, was very kind.
I remember being... Very disappointed in the actors. I believe the boy, who was in a wheelchair in the movie, was not in a wheelchair in the book. Just very weak. There were many other differences, but it's hard to recall them all.
