I'm not sure this is the right forum for this, but I have a serious craving!

I read this book in high school during my free time, but for the life of me I can't remember the title and I really want to read it again! For months, I've been looking everywhere for any hint to help me remember, but... No such luck...

It begins with a girl between 11-13 whom, with her family, meets at a train station or something to welcome the soldiers after war, injured or not. Seeing them all scared her as she adverted her gaze, only to be told by her parents to watch and admire them.

Later on in a rehabilitation center, the girl befriends one of the injured soldiers who'd been severely burned and no longer has lips because of what happened.

That's all I can remember...
If anyone has read this book or have heard of it, please tell me. I'd be much appreciated.
Thanks.

I haven't read a book like that, but one place to get help with such requests is What was that one?! if you have an LJ account. If you don't, I can post this up there for you.

Heiyuu: I was about to post the same type of thread about a different book. Thanks for pointing me to LJ

No problem! There's also more focused specific comms for, like, songs and such.

I was doing some farther searching for this book title just now and I think I may have found it by pure luck. Or determination. Either way, I'm excited!
I tried the site, though. Thanks for the suggestion.

Good luck writing it, books are difficult to write...

Nah... I'm no novel writer. I was just trying to find a book I read a few years ago. A craving actually. That's all. Thanks, though. :)

So, just out of curiosity, what was the title of the book you were looking for?

It's called 'After The Dancing Days' by Margaret Rostkowski and based around the end of WWI.
