I too, do not read that many Young Adult books, more of a fantasy man myself.
However,
Harry Potter - Probably the first book series that really got me into liking books. Luckily I read them before the movies came out, so I got to enjoy the whole story. Not the highlight real that is the movies.
Hunger Games - Loved the 2nd half of the books. I had to force myself to read the start of the book, but it was well worth it. Kind of disappointed on how it ended, but a good book series none the less. Again, disappointed with the first movie, you miss a lot of the emotional side of Katniss. I cannot wait for Catching Fire movie though. That should be really good.
@ClariusFlorina - I feel like from this thread alone that your 'To Read' list is very long. Good luck trying to read them all!

I really liked the Maximum Ride series, Inheritance Cycle, and I can't remember the author off the top of my head, but the book was called The Program. It was a really interesting take on teen suicide, and the lengths of the prevention in the book's world.
I liked Mortal Instruments' first three books, and far preferred the Infernal Devises to the Mortal Instruments.

The Host by Stephanie Meyer is such a guilty pleasure for me. It's terrible at times, but I love it. Though I cut out the center of the my copy back in high school so I could hide things from my mom in it.
House of Night... Eeeeeeh. The first few books were okay for light reading, but the main character is a complete hypocritical asshat, almost everyone else is an idiot, and... bluh. I don't want to think about it anymore.
But a good vampire YA book that I do suggest? Vampire Academy. While I haven't read any other books in the series, the first one had an interesting take on vampire lore, had a decent plot, and believable characters. That's more than I could ask for most supernatural YA books nowadays.
Also, all of Tamora Piece's novels are brilliant. All of them. As are The Claidi Journals by Tanith Lee, though I don't know if those count as YA.
Of books I want to read, there's Awoken, which is kind of a parody of YA that centers around sexy Cthulhu, of all things. It was crowdsourced, which while I wasn't directly involved with the project, I did watch it begin from "sexy alien book" joke on twitter to seeing it actually being published.
...To be honest, I'd probably read more YA if I could find some good ones with lesbian romance. It's really hard to commit to a genre where 90% of the focus is on, well, heterosexual romance. First world gay problems, I guess.[/indent]
|
Sexy Cthulhu? That sounds hilarious! I have a twitter, but I almost never get on it.
Hmm, I can only think of one book that I've even heard of having some lesbian romance, and it was a zombie book my friend read. Though it was only at the beginning, the rest was all straight.

The Uglies seems really interesting. Very dystopia-y kind of a series it seems like.

This is probably the first time I actually looked up the book series. I always thought Artemis Fowl would have something to do with the Greek Goddess Artemis... I see that is not the case now. Its more like a pre-teen spy type novel? Very interesting. I'm kind of embarrassed now lol

I still have my friend's book Eragon, I started reading it... And never finished. I really should get back into that series!
Is it by Suzanne Young? I was looking at reading The Program in the earlier part of the year, back when I still prowled The Story Siren's blog and kept up with the new books coming out within the year.
It's probably bad that I can't get passed Clockwork Angel.

Too bad my life is kind of busy for books right now! At least the price of books won't go up from me missing them... Unlike items here on Mene >_>
At least my boyfriend put that book on my Nook for me . That way when I do have time I can start reading it!
I can't believe a couple weeks ago I was considering buying the hard cover cause I saw it in the bookstore, I'm glad I resisted

I haven't read Just Listen by Sarah Dessen, though I did buy it so I plan on reading it soon. I have read others by her though and they were of course amazing, my favorite being Along for The Ride. House of Night is also really good since I read through those quick but its hard to keep up with since there are so many books. I actually think another one came out that I have yet to read.

Ooh you should definitally read the rest of the series. I'm ironically re-reading it right now, and have had trouble putting down the books. The whole world in the series is truly amazing and becomes more interesting as it goes along and you learn more about it.

Agreed the books are amazing, and beginnings are always slow. I was disappointed slightly in the ending but in some cases I shouldn't have been surprised because another of her series she pulls the same kind of things. I've come not to expect too much of movies based on books though, since it's hard to catch things that are in the books.
And I should probably now list my favorites:
Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead. These books even reading a second time really drag me in, and are just truly amazing with a good twist on the Vampire world. I can't wait to dwelve into the spin off series of the main one.
House of Night Series by P.C. Cast and Kristin. Another interesting twist on the world of vampires. Though hard to keep up with them.
Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen. I could probably read this book a thousand times and still love it because I just really love this one.
Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Again just good, and Collins never fails to surprise in her books, as well as torture.
The Immortals Series by Alyson Noel. I've fallen behind since it pops out books like House of Night, but its still a really good series and interesting too.

I love The Host by Stephanie Meyer. The only book I've loved more than that would be The Chronicles of Narnia series. Somehow, when I finish reading those two books I find a strange but lovely feeling of happiness that I can never achieve, unless I read a book that I'm completely moved by (for now, it has only been these two books). And it makes me feel bright and happy all day :)

Yeeeess. I loved that trilogy. It definitely had a strange mood to it, but I found it really moving and beautiful.

Seconded on Diana Wayne Jones. I really enjoyed Howl's Moving Castle so I read the spin-off novels too, and they were quite cute. My favorite of her books is The Dark Lord of Dirkholm.
Let's see, what else?
I also loved Tamora Pierce—I've read the Alanna set, the Wild Magic set, and the Protector of the Small ones.
The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede.
Pretty much anything by Madeline L'engel.
I also read a ton of Anne McCafferey (Pern and Acorna series).
The Giver by Lois Lowry. There is a movie coming out for it, and it has a great cast. I'm curious to see it.
Oh oh! One of my favorite YA trilogies is the Darkangel Trilogy by Meredith Ann Pierce. I've yet to meet anyone else who has read them.
I know there are others I could list, but I can't think of them at the moment.
It seems like lots of people here really like the Mortal Instruments books. XD Did you all know that the author used to be a prolific Harry Potter fanfic writer? I used to read her fics when I was in high school, and I remember when she pulled all her work from the web and started writing professionally. I started reading City of Bones and it read just the same as her fic; that wasn't a bad thing, since I'd loved her fic, but it wasn't what I was in the mood for at the time, so I put it down and haven't come back to it yet.

I love Young Adult novels...so much that that section of the library is usually the first section for me to go to to find a good book to read...
So, I have a lot of young adult novels I have because of this...and so, I'll recommend ones that are probably not known but are very good.
"The Underdog", "Fighting Ruben Wolfe" and "When Dogs Cry" by Australian author Markus Zusak who is more well-known for being the author of the very popular book "The Book Thief"
So yes...that wolfe brothers books...they read well as individual stories but are more complete when read in the correct order. They were ones I read and really enjoyed before The Book Thief was even written or released.
So I was excited when I heard how good The Book Thief was before even reading it because I knew the writing style of Markus Zusak was one that I liked a lot....and of course the Book thief did not disappoint...and I hope the movie won't either...but that's another story.

I've read a bunch of YA books. Half the time that is the only section of the library I go to when I am looking for something to read. I have really gotten into the Gone series by Michael Grant. Crazy books about kids with powers fending for themselves.
Five Flavors of Dumb by Anthony John was a pretty cool book too. A band with a deaf manager? How can you not like that?
If anyone has read the Unwind series by Neal Shusterman, those are great too. A little messed up, but the characters were so great I had to fall in love with them.
Then you know there are the greats like Harry Potter. Read them twice so far and still love them.

I really like Holly Black and Garth Nix.
Black's books are quick reads but very teen-relateable, I think? Plus urban fantasy and fairies interacting with modern kids and ahh, they're great. I'm not a huge fan of romance plots but I like hers.
Nix has two series I really like, the Abhorsen books which are really neat but I've only read like one of, and the Keys to the Kingdom series that I sadly haven't finished yet either. Both are pretty heavy fantasy, the Abhorsen ones are about a family of necromancers who use bells to work magic, and the Keys to the Kingdom are about a kid who has to overthrow tyrannical rulers of a magical "house".
(I actually haven't read either in a few years so I may be remembering them kind of off, apologies.)

Libra I hope you haven't seen the Harry Potter movies? They totally spoil the stories. You really should read Harry Potter though; I know the first book is sort of kiddish but it's really just an introduction to the series- it's unmissable though! There's important stuff in it! The second book is so-so. (but Imp. again.) The third book is where the fun starts, and it just skyrockets from there upto super-duper fun in the fifth book. The sixth book is slightly boresome, its a bridge to the seventh book. (You basically can't skip any of the books.) The seventh book is epic. (I've gone on and on...) *prods you* have I bored you to death yet?
You should read Cat Clarke. She's my fave YA author yet. She's great. Her endings aren't always. But UNDONE was amazing, read it!
