Lately, I've been making it a point to take photos of my bookshelves. It's good encouragement to actually organize my collections, make the shelves look presentable, and show off all my books!
Who wants to join me in posting a #shelfie?

I spent most of yesterday reorganizing one of my bookshelves, and I have to say, it looks pretty great right now:

That looks neat! I imagine it would be a total pain when you need to get one of those horizontal books out, but neat none the less.
Here's my shelfie.

This is nearly a year old, so there are some new additions in there. But that's more or less how it looks now. Just a few new books here and there, to the point where that bottom shelf is now completely full, no horizontal books. I've also got a cereal box down there that's storing all my comic issues. That's full now, so I guess I need to get a new cereal box. Only I'm out of room now. Time for a new book case?
So by what method is your bookshelf organized? Clearly not alphabetical, but it doesn't look like it's by genre either, so I'm stumped.

Pretty! I've always liked the way it looks when people organize based on color, but that would drive me insane, especially since I own more than one copy of certain books that all look different.
One of the books I spy in there is Sabriel, so - Good taste!
My bookshelf is is vaguely organized by genre. The very bottom shelf is all non-fiction, split up into history, education, feminist and "other" sections. The shelf above that is all mythology, folklore and epics. The next two are novels, where I've sorted them based on quality and my favorites. And the very top one is full of famous series, like Harry Potter and Discworld.

Ahh, one of those systems no one but you could get quite right or find something in. Those are fun! I used to do something like that. I had them all organized by very specific subgenres.
The rainbow organization has its ups and downs. It's an absolute pain to find anything if I can't remember the color of the spine (not all spines match the cover, to complicate things further), but it just looks so much nicer to me. And I look at it a lot more often than I need to find something on it, so aesthetics won over functionality. I had it organized alphabetically by author surname before, pretty standard, but it just looked like a jumbled mess and I couldn't stand it.

Here's my #Shelfie! Just recently organized it so that everything I've read is in the back row and everything I'm either currently in the middle of (series wise) or haven't read is in the front! I don't have a TON of room so I had to stack books on top, which I hate, but it will work for now lol! Currently I'm in the middle of the Vampire Academy series, Vampire Kisses series, and House of Night series!
Knerd - It's been AGES since I've been on Mene, but when I was on last you used to have a challenge for books - is that thread still active? I don't remember what it was called!

Here's my shelf! The top two shelves are mine. I had to double stack a lot of them because I don't have room and my Harry Potter books are in a box because they won't fit. You can also tell my fiance isn't big into organizing his bottom two shelves. >.< Most of the books on top are ones that we got from Comic Con 2013 that I haven't gotten around to reading yet.

I had to LOL over your fiance's shelves Zig! That's exactly how my brother's bookcase looked until I visited his apartment and fixed it while I was there because it was bugging me LOL I think it's back to having stacks again, but I had it fixed once!! XD;
I see you have If I Stay and Ender's Game - I know they recently made movies titled that but I haven't watched them - I've heard they're really good though - are the books really good? I didn't know they were based off of books!

I read Ender's Game in High school. That's a signed copy if the book from Comic Con. The book is way better than the movie but also pretty controversial. I would definitely recommend it though.
If I Stay was on my to read list for a while and when I saw the movie trailer for it I decided it was high time I do so. The book was good. I found it pretty interesting that it didn't follow the linear story telling that most books do. The ending was a bit disappointing and some parts seemed a bit unrealistic but it was definitely worth reading and I'm excited to see the movie.

I've never been to a convention before - super jealous!!
Maybe I'll watch the movie, see if I like the feel of them, and then go for the books! They sound interesting, but I'd hate to start the book and then have to trudge through it because I really don't like it but I want to see how it ends lol I've gotten myself into that situation a few times! The latest series was Ink Heart - LOVED the first book, liked the 2nd book, hated the 3rd book. I only got to about half way through the 3rd book and then I developed eye issues and had to take a break from reading - I actually just went through my bookcase and saw that my bookmark is still in it LOL! I think part of why I got annoyed with the series was because of the movie. They just did such a bad job with the Ink Heart movie and they tried to make it a one movie deal even though it had 3 books. :( I really should give it another shot at some point...

I usually try to read the book before watching the movie because afterwards I can't use my imagination to see the characters in my head without envisioning things the way they were in the movies. You logic also makes sense though. I never really thought if it that way.
I've been meaning to read Inkheart forever but haven't gotten around to buying it. >_<

I know what you mean - I used to do the same thing! Ever since Twilight, though, I've started putting books and movies separately in terms of content and character info - it's easier to enjoy both that way! Especially so with Vampire Academy - they tried to make it more comical and more modern/edgy - and with one girl, they gave her a pixie cut that was edgy and punk-ish, instead of making her small and like a porcelain doll with ringlet-curled blonde hair. The key to her character is her doll-like appearance - especially as her character grows through the series. So having her sporting an edgy punk pixie cut just is NOT okay. So because of that, I keep book and movies separate and so I don't need to do one before the other in order to enjoy it - I just take them separately! :3
Inkheart I highly recommend - and if you read the 2nd book do it immediately after otherwise it's not as good in my opinion. I can't recommend the 3rd book, but if you do read it - read them all one after another because otherwise, you'll end up like me and having it sit on the shelf, half read since release, and with no desire to go back xD; AND DON'T WATCH THE MOVIE!!! Not unless you go into it after the series knowing that it was crappily made :P

I usually prefer to read series all in one go if at all possible. I tend to not read books until they're all out because I hate having to wait around for sequels. If I Stay has a sequel. I read a preview for it but I'm not sure it's going to be that good. I'll probably end up reading it anyway but I have a ton of other books to get through first. I was actually thinking of picking up a few ebooks since I'm going on vacation in just over a week. I figured it would be better than lugging an actual book around with me...

Really? I hate waiting until all of the books are out! I find it easier to wait for the next book versus waiting for the entire series to end! Especially when the series takes like, 5-10 books before its finally finished! Sooooo much waiting....
For sure! Do you have a Kindle Paperwhite? I really want one but it's soooo tiny! Or at least it sounds tiny - I would rather it be the size of an actual book versus only a few inches big - I don't know if I could easily read on it or how the books would load on it! Would be perfect for traveling though versus carrying books around, which are heavy and bulky and could easily get destroyed in transit! :(
Where are you headed on vacation, if you don't mind me asking? :D

There are a few series that I didn't wait for like Harry Potter but mostly I prefer to wait. There are plenty of books to keep me busy with in the meantime.
I don't have one but my fiancé is. It's actually really nice. I kind of want one to be honest. It's about the size if a paperback so I don't find it that small as I usually read paperbacks. The one thing I really like about it is that you can change the text size. I can make the text really big when I run on the treadmill which is nice since otherwise going to the gym is pretty boring. >_<
Since I don't have a kindle I'll just read the books with the Kindle app on my phone. I'm heading back to Paris to visit some friends. I'm super excited.

Haha! You're lucky!! Most of my to read list is series that are still being produced right now so I'm out of luck! I'm trying to read what I already have that's on my bookcase, but every time I start a book, I find out it's a series that I have only 2 or 3 books of, so then I go and buy the rest of what's out - I'm seriously a compulsive book shopper! What's crazy though, which annoys me, is I have randomly book 4 in a series or something of the sort - I'm assuming I must have read books 1-3 (or whatever pertains to that series) at the school library or something because I don't own them but I've read them - reading from my bookcase just isn't turning out well - I should just have the goal of "read from my bookcase, finish buying the series you start to read and read those" - I think it's all I'll have time for LOL!
Hmm - that's hard for me to judge because paperbacks come in such different sizes! Some are really short while others are quite tall - as tall as my laptop width - do you know if electronic shops like Best Buy would have them on display? Or can you only buy them on Amazon.com? Being able to alter the text size is awesome though - does it distort the pages or is it coherent and shifted normally to compensate?
Oh wow! Have fun!! :D I've never been but I'm dying to go - mainly for the food and to go to Disneyland Paris xD; I'm a food traveler so when I travel I HAVE to try the different food of the culture! And then Disneyland is just given because I'm a Disney freak and want to see what it's like xD;

I went to a used book store on my lunch break today and picked up three more books for my shelf. Two Star Wars paper back and another one to go with that 30 book Feist series I'm working on. I'm trying to work on sorting through my books. There's a bunch that I read only once and don't really like so I'm going to sell those back. There are a few different used book stores around here that buy books back. I also sorted through my advance reader copies and put a bunch of those aside that I know I'm never going to read. There's a book store that sells them that I will donate them to.
I dunno, there's a pretty standard paper back size which is what I'm referring to. It's the size of pretty much all the paper backs on my shelf. I'm not sure if they have them in Best Buy. My fiance would know though, I should ask him sometime... I know you can find the dimensions on Amazon though. As for the text sizes, it like smart adapts. It will keep you in the same place that you were before, no need to go back and try to figure out where you were.
I've never actually been to Disneyland before. I'm tempted to ask my friends if they would be interested in going but I'm not sure they would be. Also it would be expensive so I dunno...

Here's an old Shelfie of my comic and RPG book shelf - I have about another half dozen bookshelves but this is the only well organized one... Also, there are WAY more books on it now. XD And a longbox of single issues that won't fit on the shelf, too.
