Oh my gosh.
I'm in the middle of reading it.
I'm totally amazed.
My friend recommened it.
I recommend it too.
It's amazing!
I can't wait to finish it and read the next one.
What a great book.
I love how the author illistrates it.

Have you read it?
If so, what did you think.
Please, oh please, don't ruin anything for me.

Iloveit.
=)

I've read those three, but I haven't seen the movie for Blood and Chocolate (yet). There's one after The Bar Code Tattoo: The Bar Code Rebellion (if you didn't know).

-But!-

Wow. Abarat. That's some awesome stuff. I've read the first two books and am waiting rather impatiently for the next to come out. Man, the ideas put into that story, the characters, the full color illustrations!

Blows my mind into a rainbow.

I'm really excited to read it.
I have to wait tell summer though.
Cause I have other things to read.
For school.
You know?
I have alot of stuff to read,
Cause we have A.R. goals.
Which stinks.
But whatever.
=)
Yeah.
I own number 2.
I wish they'd come out with a 3rd one.
I loved the Barcode.

I've read both books and I love them to death. Clive Barker is a genius!

I've read Clive Barker's Imajica, but not Abarat... yet.
He truly is a fantastic writer... its a shame that his books always translate badly to film. :(

I've read Blood and Chocolate... if you think thats good, you really should try the other two books Annette Kurtis Klaus has written, the Silver Kiss, and Alien Secrets.

I really liked them, but for some reason, I couldn't finish the second one, and I tried twice. It was so cool, though.

I've read:
The Silver Kiss
Several of Clive Barker's stuff from the 1980s and early 90s. Can't remember what, although I will probably leap from bed in the middle of the night saying "That title was ---!" He collaborated with another horror writer as I recall.
And Abarat, of course! I wouldn't be posting in this thread otherwise. ^^

It has a nice dreamlike quality. In fact, all of the islands seem to be dreams and nightmares. Even Chickentown seems like a bad dream. It's so surreal.

It fell flat for me in the middle though. Not sure why. Maybe because I've read so much. I loved the cover page, though, I had dropped the book and glanced at it, only to realize that it reads the same upside down as forwards. In kiwi language, I was fair chuffed! ^^ That was cool.

Don't see the movie of Blood and Chocolate, it is complete and utter garbage (excuse my american) and the only relation between the book and movie are the fact they are werewolves and their names, even the change is different!
I've read:
Blood and Chocolate
Bar Code Tattoo
Abarat
Return to Abarat
The Silver Kiss

Iwant to read Om my Goth but i can't find it in most places in my town.

I. Love. Abarat!

Believe me, the book is awesome all of the way through, and is still awesome in the second book.

For the last year or so, I have been impatiently waiting for the release of the third book, which looks like it will come out next year.

I bet this may sound familiar to any Abarat readers...

Oh, Woe is me,
Oh, Woe is me!
I used to have a hamster tree...

Man, I loved that song!

Abarat was really great! I've never read a story more original than that! The images those books give me in my head are amazing. Love it!

My mother was the one who got it for me three years ago. I was kind of reluctant reading it, thinking it was stupid reading a picture book at my age when I had been reading novels by Michael Crichton and such. But, I loved it! I never knew Clive Barker wrote anything for young adults, I just remember my mother talking about some of the stuff he puts in his books is twisted.

I haven't read the second book yet, but the first book was great.

Does anyone know when the next book comes out?

I read the Abarat books last year... The writing was a bit immature for me, but the randomness and originality of the ideas more than made up for it.

I pretty much read the books for Christopher Carrion. His fascination with Candy had me morbidly interested. I think that Clive did the wrong thing in making Princess Boa and Candy two separate identities... The story could have gone much more interesting places in that regard if he actually WAS still enamored with Candy, not to mention alive. T_T

I disagree about Carrion. Ick. Going that direction would have made it second rate teen fiction in my opinion.

Abarat makes my life. Ok, not quite. But i think it's gorgeous. Everything is brand new in the book. A beautiful exercise in making a novel art.
