I couldn't finish the grapes of wrath by steinbeck Dx
surprisingly though, I adored his other work, east of eden, and have read that mutliple times o__o |
There is only one book I have every begun that I never finished...
Jane Eyre by Jane Austen. EVERY OTHER Austen I have read and finished. War and Peace? No problem. The ORIGINAL Phantom of the Opera? Let's do it! The Feminine Mystique (1960s propaganda book)? BRING IT ON! The Odyessy? Got it covered. Paradise Lost? Read that in second grade. B-but Jane Eyre came up to me and beat me about the head. I stopped halfway through it. It is the greatest shame of my life. |

There's only one book I have ever put down and said "I don't care to finish." In fact, this book makes me want to start a thread about the worst books ever published. The Ill-Made Mute by Cecilia Dart-Thornton. That woman abuses the thesaurus to the point of asphyxiation. She cannot just say the grass is green, she has to call it verdant and emerald and three other things all in the same sentence! It drove me up the wall from the first chapter! And I still read 3/4 of the book even though I hated it! I know all the big book reviewers love her, but if I never read another word she's written I'll be very happy, thankyouverymuch. Otherwise, I read every book I start. There are some that get put aside, even for months at a time (mostly due to my moving four times in the past three years), but I always go back and finish them. Her book I am proud of myself for putting down. It's all meandering poetry and details and the prose and story get completely lost in all that. I only wish I had been brave enough to stop reading it sooner. Ugh, it was three or four years ago and I'm still mad about it! |
I couldn't finish a bok called The Historian. I forgot who it was by, but I just couldn't stay interested it. That officially has to be the only vampire book that I've never been able to finish.
|
I won't pick up that book. XD
Another one that was a pain in the butt to finish was The City of Shadows. I don't remember the author. It was about the Romanovs in the House of Special Purpose, and how Anastasia escaped. Apparently there was an Anastasia impersonator called Anna Anderson and that a half-biography of her. Apparently. It's a good book if you skip the parts with the sex in. |
Twenty-Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne. Ugh. Did it for a book report, had to Spark Note it. Not something I could read all the way through.
As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner. I've heard so many people tell me how good of a book this is, but it kept boring me to tears... And the way he speaks just... Makes me die a little inside each time I read it. Maybe I'm just strange? No clue. |
Eh...x.x
I have bought 10 books within the past 4 years and all of them are from the Blizzard games Starcraft and Diablo. I have finished 6 and still need to read 4 more and there is another book I need to get, Diablo: The Sin War (Book 2) The 4 I haven't finished yet are as followed. Diablo: Moon of the Spider Diablo: The Sin War (Book 1) Starcraft: Queen of Blades Starcraft Ghost: Nova There is a book 3 to Diablo: The Sin War but hasn't come out yet. |
macbeth  i read one page of the book and quit
|
2 books come to mind. The Haunting of Alazabel Cray(I think that's how it's spelled) and The Picture of Dorian Grey. I can't really get into Alazabel and I really wanna finish Dorian but where I am right now it's pretty blah and I honestly don't really know what's going on lol
@dorellana: Arg! Macbeth yuck...had to read it for english last year and my teacher honestly didn't know what he was doing...Now he's honestly butchering some subjects cause he's teaching like everythign but he's so clueless... edit: Oh yeah! I use to collect pokemon books but I've never actually read them. I probably only read like 2 or 3 of them |
I rarely just drop books. XD HOWEVER. That doesn't mean I NEVER do it!
-The Phantom of the Opera -Dracula -Dune -1984 I think that's it. XD Sidenote: I ADORE Victor Hugo and J.R.R. Tolkien. |
I've never started a book and not finished it. x3
I'm very surprised that the Harry Potter book was on that list. How can someone pick up a Harry Potter book (or any book, xD), and NOT finish it?! xD |
Almost everything that was required reading for my high school english classes. I think the only year I finished the books was when I took american lit..
As for books I borrowed or bought the list includes: Red Mars, Blue Mars and Green Mars A couple of the Forgotten Realms trillogies And a few books that were so boring I can't even remember the titles. |
It's kind of funny, In class we were suppose to finish the book Eragon but me and my friend was too lazy to finish it so instead we just skipped and said we finished it.....I think that was a bad choice...OH WELL!
|
Books I couldn't finish
Several "disturbing" anime books involving killing, umm...nasty stuff, or..the ideas were already used.
Books w. words XD: Umn..Merlin's glass or someting...close to that. Brian Jacques books...I don't know why, but in 4th grade I just decided I didn't want to finish it. Gossip Girl: ...kinda boring..same events happen over and over again except with a new twist...stopped after 2nd or 3rd book. (in the series) Finished! The Clique books Eragon books Harry Potter Books Meurri Purri TONS OF ANIME/MANGA That's about it I think... |
Back when LOTR was just comming out in movie form, I promised myself I'd read the books before I saw it so I'd understand what was going on.
I started to read the Hobbit. I just COULD NOT read it. O___O; It was such a boring dry read. I couldn't force myself to read it. xD; I never did finish it. Lol. |
Heart Of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. Out of the entire English class, I think there were two or three people who actually read that book. I can't get past page 6. I don't know why, I just can't. Of course, I was with my girlfriend (now my wife) trying to "study" together, so that didn't help. I might be able to finish the book now, if I tried. Also, I don't think that anyone ever has finished Moby Dick. i don't know why I bought it at the age of 9, but I did, and I still have it. I have had that book for almost 10 years, and I don't think I will ever read it.
|
I've never been able to finish Sisters of the Raven by Barbara Hambly or any of David Drake's books... I couldn't finish Wicked, either, though I lacked only five or six pages.
I have a few books that I've started and put aside to finish later... and I will finish them, but it will be that: later. Much later. |
how to kill a mocking bird
|
I couldn't finish Son of a Witch no matter how much I tried. It was very disappointing.

The book "Shadow Realm" by Shannon Drake... I got really far in it, but I just always seem to get better books before I can actually finish this one.
|
I could not finish a couple books in my life. It is few and far between that I actually physically cannot finish a book, but when I do it is REALLY annoying.
Summerland, was one book I could not finish. It was god awful. |
Moby Dick.
Anyone else tried to read through the clam chowder rant? How many pages of pointless blabber is it? Anyway. Never been able to read through that whole part. x_x; |
call me ishmael.... is as far as i ever get in Moby Dick
I cant finish war of the worlds or just about any war novel. The red badge of courage included. Heart Of Darkness- in my senior english class we were supossed to read the book 3 times. and find new things in it each time. i never read it once. it made no sense. the symbolism was shot to hell and i hated every minute i pretended to read it. luckily i was generally pretending to read it with my boyfriend which turned into a pleasurable experience. which 10 months later turned into a baby but ya know shit happens XD i still hate the book with teh same passion i did before. though, i did BS my way through all of the tests with an A and used iton my AP exam adn passed that with a 4 oh yeah. i wanna be a professional BSer. Tabloids here i come. jk. i think some books just arent meant to be read. XD |
