When I can't finish a book, I feel horrible. So no matter how aweful the book may be, I almost always finish it.
There have been books I just wasn't able to finish because I didn't have time, and they were borrowed/rented/loaned.
Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, which I didn't finish because I didn't have time to read before I had to write my essay, so I grabbed an easier book. I still want to finish it though.
Survival of the Prettiest: The Science of Beauty by Nancy Etcoff, which I had to turn in before I was finished. Loved it though, and its going to be the first book I check out again.
Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire, which bored me. I only read as far as the few first chapters though. I read it because I liked Wicked and Mirror Mirror. Might give him another try one day though.
a few other random, small books here and there, but not any I can actually remember.

Shadow of the Wind and The Lord of the Ring.. both books I started reading while on vacation but never finished it.. both by other family members claiming the book ("Give it to me! I started first! You can have it later!") and forgetting what page I'm at.. and with LOTR, that gets really irritating; yes, have tried to pick it up again several times..
I'm still planning to read these books, but while school's still going on, I prefer some mind-numbing, don't-think-just-enjoy stories.. my head's fried enough as it is! xD

I'm sure someone will hurt me for this one, but the most memorable book I never finished was....
The Lord of the Rings
I tried, I really did. But when I realized that it had been two full pages since anything of interest happened (and I have the omnibus version, making these big pages), and I couldn't remember the plot, I decided there wasn't any point in continuing. The guy was a genius, no doubt, but someone should've replaced his pencil with crayons. He spent waaaay too much time describing the scenery.
There's a couple others I never finished--
-The Purpose Driven Life--Got it as a graduation present from a local church. It looked good, but by page three I was sick of the preachyness and set it down.
-The Mists of Avalon--Pretty good, but also pretty long and at the time I couldn't read as fast as I do now. I got 600 pages in and simply lost interest. I spent close to two months reading that book....today I could probably finish it in a week.
-Robinson Crusoe--I tried twice with this one, and got farther the second time, but I find books from that time period difficult to read. Not because I don't enjoy them, but because they're not particularly exciting, and it's easy to get bored. Not as bad as LOTR though.
-The Silver Chair--Narnia. Again, tried twice, but while I got through the first three books of the series okay, I couldn't finish this one. I can't even remember why.

ooh Mists of Avalon. I somehow managed to finish that one one year. And now I don't remember a word of it!
I definitely never finished the complete Chronicles of Narnia. Partway through one of the books I just.. got bored and stopped. xD

Well, there's this book called heart shaped box by joe hill, it is a horror novel. Horror never usually freaks me out or scares me, and when I say never, I mean never. It's very hard for me to find a book that will raise my blood pressure like this one did. It was such a scary book that I had to return it to the library not two days after I had taken it out. I kept getting chills and thinking that ghosts were going to get me... which is weird because I never used to believe in ghosts until I read this book. Keep in mind that I am an artist with a very vivid imagination and when I read, I get kind of a mind movie from what ever I am reading. If you like horror novels and want a thrill, read this book, it won't fail you. It is very well written and staged in present day... so it makes it more like you're there.

I could not for the life of me finish The Two Towers. Ugh. I got stuck in the middle where a big war was going on. I kept falling asleep and eventually just gave up. D:

Off the top of my head there are only a few books that I couldn't finish, although there's a much longer list of all the ones I merely put down to do something else for a while and then never got around to picking back up. - Lolita is the first thing that springs to mind. I read almost all of that, but as it went on I just lost interest. Humbert Humbert was a boring narrator really, and the plot seemed to dwindle. When it came to the last hundred or so pages I just returned it to the library instead of finishing it.
- The Hobbit is another, though it's been years and years since I tried, so I might need to give it a second try.
- On Fire's Wings by Christie Golden never hooked me. I couldn't get past the first ten pages.
- Most importantly, Twilight. I'm sorry to those of you who like it, but they really are awful. They're poorly written with uninteresting characters and the most anti-climatic fauxplot I've ever encountered outside of fanfiction.net. If you like them, that's fiiiiine...
And though I did finish them, there are two books I wish I hadn't finished-- one being Chuck Palahniuk's Snuff which was a dull let-down for an author of his calibre, and The Mallworld Falcon by S.P. Somtow. Honestly, if you ever want to read the most insane, cracktastic, mind-numbingly awful book ever? Try Somtow's Mallworld series. No sense to be found there.

The Hobbit.
I tried to read it several times in/around 5th grade and I never managed to get very far, because it just bored me.
There have been a lot of books that I read the first few chapters of, then put down and forgot. I don't think I ever managed to make it all the way through It, because it's just too damn long, and several other Stephen King novels as well.

But I am just going to give up, (maybe). Haha.

I wasn't able to finish Brisingr. I loved Eragon and couldn't put it down. I was okay with Eldest but could see where the series was going. I had such hope for the third book, yet it turned out to be a dud.
I can say it's extremely rare for me to pick up a book and stop reading it. Even if it's only okay. But it was almost physically painful for me to read the book. I got threw a fourth of it, maybe. Then picked it up months later and didn't even finish a hundred pages.

The most recent book I haven't been able to finish was the sequel to Flowers in the Attic. Flowers in the Attic was a great book, so I got the sequel, not really expecting anything as good, but i was curious to see what happenned. But not only were the plot and the writing style not as good, but the main character became so dislikeable that i just didn't care what happened anymore.
The same thing happened with Son of a Witch, the sequel to Wicked. I guess i'm doomed to not like sequels.

Ugh, I hate when that happens.
There's a book called the Thirteenth Tale that I couldn't finish. I read halfway through it, but I was distracted for most of it so it was pointless to keep reading from that point since I didn't understand what was going on. I'll re-read it some other time.
I have some Sylvia Browne books that I got like a chapter into and couldn't get really interested enough in to keep going.
I got through the first page of Tithe and then read other books, now I can't find that book to even start reading again..

There are several books that I have not been able to bring myself to finish.
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court...though I think that one was because I was attempting to read another book at the same time.
The Hobbit....I just find it dull and hard to get into.
Tess of the D'Ubervilles...the language and how slow the story progresses had me half-comatose after the first hundred pages. I eventually quit.

The Host
I read this book for a novel study.
Because I was basically forced to read the book for a school assignment I obviously was the opposite of motivated to read it, of course I didn't finish it.
I wish I would have chosen a different book to read for the assignment because I probably would have finished it if i were to read it on my own time.
I also couldn't finish the first Harry Potter book, the reading level is too easy, which is never fun =3

I think I've finished most of the books I've read. It took me awhile to get through The Inferno by Dante and 1984 by George Orwell, only because it's so dense and I tend to over-analyze everything I read and those books are so juicy with stuff. The only books I've never been able to finish were Across Four Aprils back in intermediate school, the Twilight Series, and Running with Scissors.

I got to chapter 6 of the 5th harry potter book and gave up. I was about 14 almost 15 and had just suddenly completely lost interest in reading the series.
I don't doubt it's a great series. Just eventually you move on to more adult stories

I still haven't been able to finish Lirael.
I completely read Sabriel, but I just couldn't read all of the second one.
I got about half-way through or so.
I don't really know why. It was a good book, I just couldn't read anymore.
And after that, I haven't read a full book since.....

Oh, god. I feel ashamed writing these down, but...
A Wind in the Willows
Of The Human Condition
Love and War
The Crusades
and most importantly
Dr. friggen Zhivago.
I've picked up Doctor Zhivago about 80 friggen times. I love the writing style, I love the plot, I love the concept...I just can't finish it. That goes for the rest of them, too, but Zhivago is hands down the worst.
Well, there's also Cabbages and Kings, but if anybody has been brave enough to finish such a horrid combination of fragments and run-ons I will personally salute you for managing through that monster.

Oh that's very interesting. I usually don't not finish books, I try to get through it. But for some reason I couldn't read Eragon. Very strange seeing as how I read Eldest, the second in the series. Eragon just dragged on and on for me and somewhere near the beginning/middle of the book I just had to put it down. Another book I just wouldn't finish was this one Dune book, I'm not sure which one it was. I've never read a Dune book before so that was the first one I tried. I guess I'm just not that into sci-fi novels. I also had a really hard time finishing House on Mango Street, but that is traditionally a school book so I was forced to. Another book I couldn't finish was this one really weird pig book. I don't know how it ever became a book because it was just plain awful. I put it down within the first few chapters.
