I just sorta finished rereading Triss. And suddenly I remember why I disliked that book.

Usually his books start off as one story, then become three separate ones, and then wrap up and become one again.

In Triss it started as three, then became four, and then began three, and then two, and then finally one. >.> Thus I had more characters to remember, and storylines that just seemed to take up space.

Eventually I grew bored enough were I skipped from chapter 20+ to chapter 34 when Triss finally arrives back at Redwall.

Yeah it's good story, but I think Triss was poorly written. I would have been happier if he got Triss to Redwall sooner and he wrote more about her taking back Riftgard (instead of it being the journals at the end). Nothing I can do to change that, but yeah. *sigh*

This was the first time that I didn't know which character was who.

I'm hesitant to pick up Taggerung to try and reread it. *sigh*

LOL
well i supposed he was actually trying to go for a more complicated storyline/plot
but he should have remmebered what was his success formula
Its fine to try to do something different
but should not be all that different
since that was why his readers followed his books
and that his readers are mostly meant for young adult XP

Well yeah. But it was so boring. -.-

He should remember his success formula. It makes his books so much better. Then after Taggerung I did get bored with the series. Of the recent books he released I think only one I liked was Rakkery Tam. The rest just seem to be lacking some of the magic. *sigh*

I remember reading Loamhedge and being disappointed because it was a little too similar to Mattimeo.

I think I won't bother with rereading Taggerung again. I might go back and borrow Long Patrol again. That was another one I was fond of. xD

Me too. I don't know why either. Either I grew out of it, or the story didn't have that same feeling to it.

  • O_O I remember reading this series. I have a lot of the books. But for the life of me, I can't recall what they were about. I just know I really liked them. <3

Personally, I think it as a very boring story until the middle. I tried to read the whole thing but only got to the 10th chapter for the first one in 4th Grade. I'm not trying again because in 5th Grade, I tried to read almost every single book but failed.

i read up to Legend of Luke when i was younger, back when Legend of Luke was the newest one, and then drifted away and never game back to them. i still recommend the books to young readers, because they're fantastic, but the whole series just got really ... long. it's begining to be kinda Wheel-of-Time for young people. and that's not always a good thing.

I kinda see what you're saying, but the difference between Redwall and Wheel of Time is the books can stand by themselves. Each one is a complete story, and not a continuation. You can read them out of order, and not be completely confused.

that's true, but that may be one of the things that make them young-people-accessible, as opposed to really something on it's own.

LOL
did you read all of them in one go?
and didn't read anything in between?
i find that picking up a series that i have gotten tired of after a long time
is a good way of restarting a series XP

i tend to read lots of books together
that is say after finishing 5 books of the belgariad of david eddings
i will go and read something else like terry pratchett
before i go on to mallareon

Personally i don't think Brian books are meant to be rewritten all in one go ( that is without any buffer books)

His style can be over intense at times XP

sometimes what books you like to read also depends on your mood and personal experience
His books are not happy books i will say XP

i wouldn't read them when i am depressed or tired XP

Yeah. Well I dunno. It was more like -boom!- I suddenly grew up. And the fact that I had no idea after Taggerung, where the stories took place ( cause remember? The stories actually all tied into a nice little plotline) so yeah that might have been the reason.

yeah i get what you mean XP
but i treat it like how i treat romances from the same author XP
they may be different and yet the same XP
i read and read them until i get tired
then i go to something else

it's a good book for young readers going into fantasy i feel
But then i read things like enid blyton and winds in the willows and water babies, those of the same feel before i went into redwall

but i wonder whether young readers nowadays read the same genre of books as me XP
They are mostly reading about ghosts and vampires and such isn't it XP

Yeah. Well actually it's kinda funny. Even though Martin the Warrior is suppose to be the first book it's actually after The Bellmaker. xD

I like that we see some of the older characters after awhile. But I don't like the fact that I didn't where the books were taking place. I know that Triss is after Taggerung and that's about it. I don't know about the rest. >>

haha I know. xD I guess I just miss the older characters. Martin rarely plays a major role anymore. And I miss my Mattimeo anad Mattitus (I totally killed the spelling xD)

Hehe, yeah there are two ways to list the events. Based on the main story and or based on the opening. xD Cause then a story changes if you go by the opening. xD
