I had to reply when I saw Charles de Lint mentioned in the first post, even if I didn't find myself as stirred by The Blue Girl as I did some of his other works. Forests of the Heart is something that I recently picked up again after a few years of leaving it to molder in my bookshelves, and I found I still enjoyed it even as I realized that his style doesn't appeal to me as it once did in high school. I still thoroughly love the characters and the winding plot through the desert though, not to mention all the mythological beings de Lint somehow manages to find time to showcase.

Another book that I've read almost a dozen times would be Robin McKinley's Sunshine, her somewhat controversial vampire novel where the main character is a normal, almost dull-seeming baker named Rae "Sunshine" Seddon who finds herself thrown into an insidious plot revolving around supernatural beings. As the story moves onward, you discover that the heroine is anything but the boring girl you initially mistook her for, and that there's more to the plot than just bloodsuckers and demon-spawn. You really have to love the world McKinley shapes, even if one of the complaints from her fanbase is that she spends too much time developing the world and not enough initiating action. Since I adore detail, it's just another reason to pick up the book, and it's a comfort to read when I'm feeling uninspired or unhappy.

And... okay, I'm going to have to cite Neil Gaiman's Sandman series as well. Now, before everyone jumps down my throat with indignant squeals of "but that's a comic book!" you should read the first few volumes and see why I'm so enamored with it. The characters are amazing, the plots are varied and often mind-bending, and the artistic aspect only enhances the overall experience of reading, rather than detracting from the fun. Even if you're snobby when it comes to deriving pleasure from something as mundane as a comic, you might be surprised just how well done the Sandman is.

I've also been re-reading Barbara Kingsolver's Prodigal Summer, which I believe is an acquired taste and definitely not going to appeal to everyone. A professor from a few years back suggested it to me, and the beautiful nature imagery keeps drawing me back, not to mention the strong female characters. No, I am not a feminist, but it is nice to see a real take on women who don't dissolve into tears when life ends up smacking them across the face.

And I think I'll shut up now, even though there are about a dozen other novels worth mentioning. x3

Fight Club
I can't really see how people can read it only once.

Johnathan Strange and Mr. Norrell hands down. It's a long book, but it is written SO WELL. Like Jane Austin and Tolkien mixed, I love it. Ella Enchanted was good, and Bridge to Terebithia was great, even if it was sad. And Harry Potter because they let your mind run free, and the fandom is growing so quickly. .

Eragon and Eldest: I had to read theese more than once because when you are going through the first time you dont pick up as much stuff you just skip over it but thwn you read it a second time some things will stand out and you will better understand what you are reading

The Theif Lord: The setting and the characters and the whole story is absolutely amazing this is a must read book and it gets better every time i read it

Angels and demons:This is possibly one of the best books that i have read because its on something half the world hasent even heard about even once and it has alot of factual information about the city of rome and the aincent rituals they had there.

The only one that comes to mind right now is Interview with the Vampire. Its depressing, full of purple prose, and I cry almost every time I read it, but I still love the book today as much as I did the first time I picked it up.

...I'll probably add more later.

I've read Anne Bishop's books countless times. Mainly The Black Jewels Trilogy, thats not really a trilogy but going on 6 books now XD I had to buy new ones cause mine were falling apart I read them so many times. Its just a great story that sucks you in and throws you into a whole different world with outstanding detail that holds you like a vice. Would recommend the to anyone of a mature mind, as they are sexual in some parts, and interested in sci-fi/fantasy stories.

I can't stop reading Far Beyond the Deepwoods by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell. It's about Twig, a human boy that is brought up by woodtrolls. But when he's about to turn 13, his mother tells him he isn't truly her son. He was found in front of their door one day, so they took him in. After that day, Twig goes out to find his real parents. During his adventure he comes past various mystical creatures, either good or bad. He makes friends and enemies, and eventually finds his way home to his father.
It's a fun story to read with lots of hilarious and sad parts in it. It's also full of pictures which are drawn with so much care. I recommend it highly!

Sorcerers of the Nightwing is also a book I can't stop reading. It's about Devon, a boy with supernatural powers; he can see monsters. when he's fourteen, his dad dies and he finds out he's adopted. His dad has made arrangements for Devon to become the ward of a Mrs. Crandall, who lives with her son and daughter in a big, gothic mansion called Ravenscliff, which is perched on the edge of Misery Point.
Strange things happen inside that house, there are ghosts and monsters wandering around freely, and even worse.. the son of Mrs. Crandall gets abducted by one of those monsters and Devon must bring him back!
The story is so wonderfully written, yet a bit childlike. But it gets a hold of you, and you must keep on reading until it's finished. I also recommend this one highly!

I live to read Fantasy I guess.

I also loved Claidi's journals by Tanith Lee.
My favorite books are Tamora Pierce's books. I own all of her books and have read them all at least ten times.
I am also a big fan of Blue Moon by Charles de Lint.
I have read Black Swan by Mercedes Lackey many times. I love books that are retellings of stories we grew up on hearing.

My brother had a nice collection of books I love to read over and over. He's the reason why I'm so fond of Kurt Vonnegut and Roald Dahl.

I always read Vonnegut's collection of story stories Welcome To The Monkeyhouse. Especially the stories, "Welcome to the Monkeyhouse," "Harrison Bergeron," and "Tom Edison's Shaggy Dog." I absolutely love those!

And by Roald Dahl, I LOVE My Uncle Oswald. Before I read that book, I thought Dahl was strictly a childrens writer, what with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, and James and the Giant Peach. Boy was I wrong. >w< Every time I even start reading My Uncle Oswald, I just can't stop until it's done. I must give Dahl his props. <3

And yes, those are my brothers books. And he hasn't been able to touch them for at least 3 years. XD

Meirles 05-26-2007 08:56 PM

Dancing on the Edge and If I Die Before I Wake, both by the same author. There was little book of poems that I haven't found anywhere and no one else I know has read called What Really Happened When My Sister Went Crazy. Very good, striking poems that document a girl living through the trauma of having a mentally ill sister. Or at least, that's how I remember it. Haven't read it in years, due to the issue of finding it. @[email protected]

And of course, I sometimes pick up a Harry Potter book and flip to a random page to start reading. XD

Sharkie 05-26-2007 11:07 PM

The only book I would hold onto if I could only have one book, and the only book that I actually reread is The Alchemist. I know a trillion people hate it, but I love it. And not for the fantasy of it. I hate fantasy. :P
I just really like that book.
So yups!

Wisty 05-27-2007 01:45 AM

The Harry Potter books

Peter Pan is one I wouldn't mind rereading, except that it depresses me. xD

Watership Down <3 by Richard Adams. It's a fictional adventure about rabbits, and I love rabbits. And no it's not a children's book, more YA. lol.

Breath by Donna Jo Napoli. Napoli does a lot of intense remixes on fairy tales, it's amazing. Breath is my favorite of hers. It's about the [SPOILERRRRR]pied piper[/ENNNND SPOILERRRRRR]

Le Phantastique 10-27-2009 11:27 PM

Ella Enchanted, The Client (John Grisham), The Harry Potter Series, The Phantom of the Opera, Goddess of Yesterday, Wanted ( last to by Caroline B. Cooney)

I just have a few favorites I love reading multiple times!!!

kitsuneneo 10-28-2009 04:44 AM

I love anything by Charles deLint, and can't help but read them over and over. His imaginary worlds are enchanting and I love the characters.

My all time favorite though, has to be Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. I've read it eleven times and it never gets old. :D

I reread this book every February. I have it in the graphic novel, too. Which is kind of silly, since Clive Barker's powers are in his writing and ideas, so about half the point is lost.

I believe The Thief of Always has the best beginning I have ever read. And, being an English major, I have read a fair bit. "The great grey beast of February had eatten Harvey Swick alive." So good.

The Phantom of the Opera Thank you! Most of my friends know its a book, but they've never read it.

I also reread 1984 every so often, His Dark Materials is a favourite, along with the Harry Potter books.
