Has anybody read them? I'm a total addict to the series. Even though, yes, it does get a little trashy... But the whole thing about vampires and werewolves and those beasties being real is pretty nifty...

I read them. I'm up to... book 12, I think. And I don't think they're at all 'trashy.' Yeah, sure, there's sex, but it's well written, and I've never felt like she threw it in there just because.

I've really wanted to read the series, but when ever I get to a book store, something else always calls my interest first. I'm going to go to the book store tomorrow, and I'll definitely be getting the series this time. xD <3

well I've never read the books, though I would like to...
(umm,what is the first book?)
However,I have the comic and so far I like that....
if you are into comics,I think the art for the series is very nice...
I'm alittle confused about some of it,which is why I would like to read the books...I thought that it would help me to understand just what she is...

To Katerin:
Well, getting later and later into the series, it kinda seems to me that its just getting to the next place to have sex. Yes, the sex is very well written, but with the last couple books it seems as though the focus is more on sex than more storyline... Whatever, that's just my opinion. I mean, she and Jean-Claude, and all of Anita's sex partners are getting hella powerful so they don't have many rivals now that could actually DO something... I dunno, maybe it just bugs me that so much of Anita's power comes from sexual-type situations. Not that I have anything against sex in general, but its as if every few chapters she's gotta hump somebody.. XP
To Raphael:
I know the feeling, and I get it everytime I go to look for a specific book. It goes like this: 'yeah, I'm gonna go get that book today... Oh looky!' lol
To Dragons Scion:
Yeah, I got the first comic, and my friend has the next 4 or 5. I can't wait to see what some of the other character look like! :D

The only thing I've really heard is that it's pretty good until about the eighth book and then there's just too much sex.
But that's only what I've heard. I've never actually read any of them, though I had wanted to at one point in time, but never got around to it.

Yeah, I really think there should be a bit less sex in the book, cuz I honestly believe it takes away from the plot.
I think you should, even if it just ends up being you reading them in the aisle at the book store

I've read all 14 of the Anita series. While I've enjoyed the series I've felt that it's strayed a lot from the original concept that originally attracted me to the series.
I think that the books Guilty Pleasures - Burnt Offerings are great and stay true to the original plot and character. Blue Moon is where you start seeing a more fractured Anita and things go down hill for the series.
Don't get me wrong, I own all of the books but several of the laters ones will never be my favorites. Mainly for reasons said - trashy and seeming to only be designed to showcase Anita's hopping into bed with several different characters in many different settings.
The newest ones have been going back to the original characters and while there are still some changes to the series it seems to be making a solid comeback - to the point where there are plot lines besides sex coming through in the books.
This said I'm very much looking forward to book 15 - The Harlequin.
As a side note - if all you're looking for is supernatural sex with a superficial plot line pick up her Meredith Gentry Series - theres a book set I'm STILL waiting for the plot line to appear in.

I've read all 14 too. That's how I feel about it, and that it's just way too much about her sex life now.
I dunno, I think she starts to go downhill once she starts sleeping with more than one guy/vamp/were-something. I mean, she refused Jean-Claude's advances for a while, and once she gave into him, then she started sleeping around all over the place.
Circus of the Damned is my favorite. I totally agree, but one of my friends, a girl who got me started on the series, goes crazy if I say something like that. I mean, I honestly can't really keep track anymore of who she's sleeping with. ...Maybe I should start counting who she's not doing?
I guess so, but I'll agree to the fact that there's more to it than sex recently. I'm waiting for the eventual fight between Anita and Belle Morte, cuz it's gonna be an awesome bitch-fight. I mean, I realize it's marketed more towards women, but less sex might be nice...
I've thought briefly of reading that series. Isn't it just about a woman jumping into bed with as many men as possible as quickly as she can, to make a baby, while fending off attackers? ...*kinda reminds me of Anita...*
Not to say I don't like the series. I really, really do. But I'm tired of it always being about sex.

Probably but I put that more when the triumvirate was completed again and Anita goes slinking off to New Mexico and met up with Obsidian Butterfly. And I refuse to go into Narcissus in Chains as a novel - that one just made my head hurt reading through it.

I think that Guilty Pleasures will always be my favorite. Back when Anita was a simple animator and it was humans vs supernatural in a well told story. That's what attracted me and now Anita's almost more supernatural than the beings she hangs out with and we rarely hear about her human side of things anymore. I always wonder what happened to Catherine, Zer, Dolph, Edward, and many others that seemingly have grown more shallow in their character development where they once were detailed characters with depth.
I've given up on figuring out who Anita's sleeping with. I'd need an excel spreadsheet to keep it straight X3

Oh to be sure. But I've a soft spot for Belle - she reminds me a bit of Lestat from Anne Rice's series. She's got that same arrogant, aloof, attitude. She's a bitch - she's clawed her way up through the centuries and she's proud of the things she accomplished. I'll be looking forward to seeing this character be fleshed out more. Especially since I think it will be less a physical fight than a contest of wills.

It's a good series, just don't expect too much out of it. That sentance there really describes the whole plot line or pretty much it. I've some favorite characters from the series and it's great to see some of the Celtic myths brought to life but at the same time I'm craving something with a bit more plot to it.

Mmm, I guess so. I wasn't really fond of Obsidian Butterfly. I mean, I liked the character, and thought she was pretty cool. Even though she was a bit delusional about being a goddess and all that... I wasn't really happy with the book. It was great that Edward had a 'human' side, and that she was up against humans instead of vamps, but... I dunno, it wasn't a favorite of mine. OMG, Narcissus in Chains... Just gay werehyenas and bondage and such... ;>> It was just wierd...

Hmm, I get that. Cuz that was when she was absolutely refusing to acknowledge being a human servant, and she WAS human. She's not anymore, not if she has a lycanthrope infection, much less lycanthropy of various sorts. I have a theory that she'll end up just exploding/imploding due to the massive amounts of power that she has, and will probably gain in the future. Either that, or she'll somehow become the new Mother of Darkness after she kills her. Well, we know that Dolph has a serious hatred of vamps, and hates Anita for boinking some, but that's about it. He used to be calm and collected, but now he's angry all the time...
lol, that's probably true, sadly enough...

Y'know, I've never actually read Anne Rice's books... And I think I'm with you on that, cuz when you put it that way, it kinda makes me like Belle better than Anita... For sure, and it'll probably span more than one book, too.

Ah, gotcha. I read romance novels, but there are a select few that I re-read because they have some plot, instead of mindless sex and unrealistic romances.

I am totally addicted. I love the series. I have not yet made it through very many. In fact, I just started over.
These are one of the few books that I can read more than once.
The style of writing... it's so casual. Very comfortable. (If that makes sense.)

OMG, I LOVE the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series! I think Laurell k Hamilton is a supremely awesome writer!
And no, I don't think the series is too trashy, or anything like that. While Anita does do some pretty kinky stuff in pretty kinky ways with one or more guys, I like the way its written. And NO, not just because the sex is ridiculously mind-blowing, but because its well-written and it gets more into the REAL Anita, and not the prim and proper chick she tried and actually succeeded in being before. Of course, the ardour changes her, but I think that for who she started out to be in the series, it's very fitting that she derives most of her power from sex.
Of course, I'd like it if she wasn't shagging every guy that walked by, but hey, that's me... even if they are drop-dead, (in the vamps' case, literally) gorgeous...

...He's got glasses? Huh. Well, maybe it was for one of his many disguises, I dunno, or maybe they're just marketing Mr. Awesome McBadass as a dude with glasses. *shrug* I've seen the first one or two of the comic books, and I'm reasonably pleased with the artwork. I mean, there's always gonna be differences, so that's ok.

Me too, as long as I'm in the right mindset for it. 'In the mood', if you prefer. I mean, cuz if I'm looking for sci-fi, I want sci-fi. If I'm looking for storyline, I want a darn good storyline. And if I want sex, I'll read romance novels... Or skip to the juicy parts in Anita Blake, >:D

You've only read Blue Moon? Whatever, the sequence in which you read stuff doesn't matter to me in the least. I actually started the Harry Potter series in the third one, then the first, and then second, I think... To put it lightly, I've gotten into a few series halfway through them. Whatever. But in the beginning, my friend kinda forced the books on me, but once I hit Circus, I was bugging her all of the time for the books. I'd read them each in like a night or two... Heh heh heh...
