How unfortunate XD
...I loved "A series of unfortunate events" by lemony Snicket from the first volume to the last. It was so full of surprises, witty turns and twists in the story and it was so much fun to read. How Lemony plays with english language is so good to read, i never read anything compareable to that (the german transcribtion is so lame next to the original), so even if the story would have turned out stupid, I would have read on only for the sake of the flow and game of language.
What do you think about the books?
And has anyone seen the movie?

I've seen the film, and i've read some of the books... and I've loved them XD I haven't had the possibility to read them in English, until now, buy now I'll look for them :D
The only negative thing I can say is that there are too much books and too short, I wonder how many book are in total...

Well, there are 13 volumes with 13 chapters each *grins* and higher the volumes, the thicker the books get. In which language you read them?
I quite disliked the movie (though the costumes were great!), it was too much of a Jim carey Egoshow and I dislike him as an actor anyway...

I've read all the books in the series, except the last one. Too lazy to go to the library and borrow it. XD I love how he uses reverse physicology on the readers and tells them not to read it, especially when he knows that'll peak the reader's interest even more.
I've seen the movie as well, and I think that it's awful. I mean, I like the actors and stuff, but the movie plot was awful since they cut out most of the details in the book to make it a lot shorter..It was still a good visiual to see for the book though. ^^

I havn't read all of the books, I skipped a few at the beginnning so I think I have to reread them all before I get the final book.
And yes, the movie was irritating. I hate Jim Carrey so I was just like 'enough!!!'

Yeah, Jim carey is really a pain-in-the-neck. I think he draw too much of a focus to himself and like I already wrote... ego-show.
What i found strange too is that they took elements from the later books (the whole animated beginning, the whole stuff with VFD) into the movie, leaving the audience puzzled who didn't read the books.

I know that when I watched the movie I was very dissapointed because it wasn't a whole lot like the books. It was a good movie in it's own right just not what I was expecting from the series. I also wasn't too terribly fond of the casting for the characters.
I did enjoy the books though I still need to finish the series. I'm hoping that the end is pretty good despite the name and dire warnings throughout the books!

I wont write down a spoiler here, only that I kind of liked the ending. It was bittersweet, sad and nice in the same breath. it turned everything upside down, mixed everything up and came up with a lot of twists and turns. The last volume was definitly the best in the whole series, and for me a series lives and dies with the end. And this end really was great.

I saw him live once. I went to a performance at a high school.
He was really funny. He pretneded to be someone else and that "Lemony Snicket" was eaten or something.
I got to ask him something too. I asked him who Beatrice was and he said, well.. it's a sotry that will make you rip your hair out.. Then he said NEXt. lol
I did not get the ending of the last book.

Wew, I total envy you > <
Well, I got the ending somehow. One has to read it very carefully, slowly and preferable twice. It's a bit like philosophie *grins*
What I haven't understood where the Beatrice letters, though... I should read it now, after I got the ending straight. Maybe I understand that now.

i love the Lemony snicket books, they are just so good.
I didn't really like the movie as much as the books. I like Jim Carey but I really didn't think he was the person for the role of Count Olaf, who is such a fearsome character.
I did actually like Emily Browning as Violet & Liam Aiken as Klaus.

Yeah. I love the casting...But...Well, if you read the book first, the movie isn't so good anymore because as most other movies that are based on books, the books are usually better and more detailed...The plot is richer.

I have only seen the movie...I bought it cause I really like the clothes and how it was filmed...it's really odd and I like that. There aren't very many movies like that, well not that I have seen...and I like the actress that played Violet.
I haven't read the books but from what I have read on this thread...I think I will just have to go to the library and get it :D

I love the Series of Unfortunate Events!! Want to know something strange about the books? It's on a website but I forgot which one...In every book there is 13 something. 13 letters in Lemony Snicket. 13 letters in the Illustrators name(i think) and it said that 13 is hidden in every cover of the books!! And on the back, there is a picture of what's going to happen in the next serie!! Go and try to see if you can find the 13's!!!

I saw the movie first and I gotta say I really liked it. Since I didn't read the books I didn't know how the characters we suppose to be, but either way I think the movie was very well done. They couldn't have done all 13 books anyway XDD
As for the books I'm currently reading the fifth book and I'm loving the series. I like that they are short because it makes me want to read them more. I'm also reading Harry Potter and those books are like sometimes 800 pages long so it takes forever for me to read and sometimes I just wanna get going to the next chapter XDD
Overall I would recommend this series to someone who is trying to find a simple yet interesting series to read. Its a good start up collection for a first time reader :3

I really enjoyed those books. The way that he plays with language is brilliant, and though I'm glad they ended where they did, I'd never say no to reading another one. I like how they're good fun when you're younger, but even my mom liked these.
I don't know how I felt about the movie. I really disliked the kid who played Klaus, but I loved the music and the costumes. Some of the filming was excellent, too. Also, Jude Law as Lemony Snicket was lovely. The end credits with the paper animation was really the only thing that would make me want to buy the movie. It was so imaginative and incredibly well done.
So yes, excellent series.
