Love both of these series, but I'm behind on the Merry Gentry books. My local book store stocks the Anita Blake books, but not the Gentry books.... which is strange. I'm starting to check them out through interlibrary loan though. I'm waiting on Lick of Frost right now (I told you I was behind.)
I know everyone makes an argument about Anita loosing her personality, but I don't think she's lost anything of value to her character since the beginning. She seems to be more comfortable with herself, and more confident, not only with her work, but with the people in her life. She was so uptight when the series began. She no longer has inner monologues about why she thinks she's going to hell. I don't miss those.
As for Merry Gentry, I can't wait to catch up because I haven't had my Doyle fix in awhile.

lonelyotaku>> lol, well, if you didn't like the gory part....let's just say you will not be enjoying most of Obsidian Butterfly (when you get there) XD
Luscara>> lol, don't worry, I really don't think you're that behind XD especially since there's wayyyy more Anita Blake books than Merry Gentry ones :) plus, I always use inter-library loans, one library can't have all of them XD I totally agree about her not exactly losing anything, personally, I think it's more like she's gained another characteristic because I'm pretty sure that she mentions the whole "static whiteness" thing whenever she kills someone. That new characteristic (or whatever else it is) may have helped her a lot in keeping her sane and functioning.

I LOVE Laurell K. Hamilton and I've read all the Anita Blake books and just started on Merry.
I think my favorite would be Obsidian Butterfly because it was nice to see this other side of Edward. :)
I received her Anita Blake novella "Flirt" for Valentine's Day this year and enjoyed it. Seemed like a perfect gift for the holiday.
*spoiler*
I really held my breath as Micah, Nathaniel, and Jason's life were in danger because I absolutely adore those three.

The only one of the novella I've read was Micah. I should look that one up, because Nathaniel and Jason are my favorites. Especially Jason... Blood Noir is my favorite Anita book. Simply because it focuses so much on Jason... blond werewolfy yumminess.

i love laurell!!!
i prefer the meredith gentry series over the anita blake.
both are a bit too steamy sometimes and i feel she uses sex as fillers.
but they stories are still amazing.
i love my frost! <3

I think I started reading her books last year (2009) oh, wait, maybe 2008, hmmm, well, anyways, it feels like a long time ago XD
Scarebear>> lol, no way would Micah be upstairs in my room XD if it ever does happen, I bet he's going to go all father-like around me because of the age differences *rolls eyes* plus I guess I shouldn't really be reading these books since I'm, like, 1 year away from being legal-aged (geez).
woah, Bullet's coming out in June? oh man, I'm never going to get caught up D:

I really enjoyed the first few Anita Blake novels and I forced myself to read up to Incubus Dreams... but it started to get a little too much like a super natural Dawson's Creek for me. "I love the wolf... no the vampire... no the wolf... no the vampire..." I told my friend who loves the series that it ever sorts itself out and gets back to having actual content instead of being a glorified trashy romance novel to let me know and I'll read more and catch up to the good stuff.
That being said it is a little ironic that my favorite character is Nathaniel.

I love the Anita Blake series. I'm a little behing on them right now because my cat kicked Narcissus in Chains in the toilet and I need to get a replacement. But so far this is a really addicting series. The characters are so real and easy to fall in love with or hate, depending.
