The most boring book I've read I am still currently reading. It's called Turvey: A Military Picaresque. It's about this guy, named Turvey, who joins the Canadian Military during WWII. It's supposed to be a comedy, but I honestly haven't laughed once.
The brutal part about it, is that it's driven by dialogue, and the author tries to convey people's accents through the writing. For example: "I god barried" is "I got married". That one was simple, as I was able to decipher it, but there are other parts that I just don't understand what the heck is going on. It's rather frustrating. The worst part about it, is that I HAVE to read the book for my Canada War and Peace history class. To top it off, I have to do a presentation on it and then write a book review about it. I want to die. This book sucks major moose balls. DO NOT EVER READ TURVEY, YOU WILL WANT TO SHOOT YOURSELF!!!! |
i've never read a boring book. i might have started one. but if i dont get intrested in it soon than i just stop reading the book.

Heard about lots of boring books, but haven't actually read one! When I hate the title, I discard it already.

Where there isn't a book I've come across yet where I haven't been able to force myself through it even if I don't want to read it, I do believe that the most difficult one for me to actually bring myself to read almost every night was To Kill a Mockingbird. It was well-written, yes, but I just didn't find myself wanting to pick it up again. The plot wasn't interesting to me, and none of the characters really drew me in.
I was talking to my friend about this last night, actually. We both agreed that fantasy spoiled us, with its otherworldly characters/plotlines. xD (This isn't always the case, though; I do enjoy some non-fantasy books; The Outsiders I quite liked, for example. It's probably my favourite book that we've been made to read for school thus far.) |
I read a book called Inkheart. The only reason I finished it was because I was going “something has to happen in this book”. I liked the characters quite a bit, I just wish the plot had been, I don’t want to say suspenseful, but intriguing at least. I was almost tempted to buy the sequel to see if anything finally came about in it. lol Maybe that was the plan all along, lead people into buying your books because they want to see if you ever make anything out of them. xD I think there’s actually supposed to be a movie adaptation. I hope it makes a better film then it does a book. ^^; |
I hated Inkheart. That was an awful book DX
|
lol I'm glad someone agrees with me. xD I was just so disappointed. I completely wasted $7 and a handful of hours out of my life. xDDD |
Oh the first book that came to my mind when I saw the title of this thread was Walden. Gah, that book was so boring. Normally I push myself through books but that one can literally put you to sleep.
|
The most boring book I've read is "Of Mice and Men" and "Lord of the Flies". Also "The Call of the Wild".
|
I have Inkheart somewhere. I can't remember if I ever finished it or if I liked it or not, but it can't be great if I don't even remember. xD
And, I didn't like Northern Lights by Philip Pullman. Everyone was "OMFG IT'S SUCH AN AWESOME BOOK" But I couldn't even get past the first chapter it bored me that much. :/ I think it's about the only book I haven't been able to force myself to read. |
The bible to me is so boring i just couldnt get into it sure there are some great passages but still most of it makes me want to sleep
|
HAHAH.
Never thought of that. Yes. The Bible is boring too. And I certainly wouldn't base my life on it. |
Edit.
|
Bleh. I didn't enjoy the first 200 or so pages of the series Twilight. It just went on and on about the same thing. I do like the series though, and the ending to the first book was better than the rest of the book.

[color-blue]The most boring book that I have read for
now would probably be like in 6th grade, it's called "Julie of the Wolves" (And uhh... as for the title, I have forgotten it since it was a long time ago >_<)Usually, I think all books are boring XD Because I am not much of a reader, but sometimes, when I do read a book, I might end up liking it, so I guess I never know! I just don't like that in school you have a time limit to read a certain book, so it is kinda hard since I would rather read on my own time and pace.[/color] |
I agree school makes some books that would have been cool not cool due to the picking the book apart. I recall in my 8th grade diff class we had to go through two books that covered the holocaust. One was pretty light hearted and didn't seem all that gripping but, the second book we had to read was called Night, which okay that one ended up making me finish the book before everyone else with in almost a heartbeat due to it wasn't that bad in writing it was the write about every single aspect of the book that just killed the joy of reading it. Though with night, I would like to get it again sometime and read it again without the looming English class objectives on it. Though there was this other book that was in like what, second grade that the entire group I was with agreed that the book was an absolute piece of crap. The book was about a boy and girl competing for class president. I still want to burn a copy of the book if I ever recall the title of it. Other than night also the school made us read this book that was about this girl with polo, which to the group I was in and I included thought this was the best book we got to read in elementary school. We felt motivation to read it and not feel disgusted afterwards.

The most boring book ive read is Dillion Dillion. It was weird this boys parents were killed and he was adopted by his aunt or something like that and he meets these loons (i think theyre like ducks...) and its pretty much is like telling the story of him through the ducks i mean how can that b interesting!!!
-_- -byez... |
I read lost of boring books in my life...so many I can't even remember one xD
" Last Life " Was boring for me and my friends thought it was a thrill, I suppose We all think differently. Also Another one was " Wormz In Applez" Trust Me I didn't want to read it, It was one of those things you had to do xD Anyway I can't wait to find a book I'm interested in, Nice thread and avi by the way ^_^ Anyways I have to go to bed now Cya later! ^_^ |
Finally some one who agrees with me on To Kill a Mockingbird!
I've read that book a dozen times, and it never fails to fall ten feet short of expectations. I'd say hands down the most boring book is The Theif. I can't remember who it's by. It's been on so many booklists and I can't figure out why! The story just kind of slithered off into a corner and died. And I didn't even care about the big AHA moment at the end, because there was no tension to break. Man. I am in a cynical mood tonight. xD |
i thought little woman to be the most boring ever just couldnt get through it tried to see if it got better it didnt...
|
To Kill a Mockingbird was pretty bad, but it definitely didn't even come close to Great Expectations, Beowulf, or The Old Man and the Sea.
Those were just... WOW, and I think I had to read them all in the same grade. |
Quote:
My high school put that on a couple years ago. I tried to read it to help my audition. I couldn't get past the first hundred pages. EXCRUCIATING. How did she ever think she was a writer? |
Hm... There's this one book I read I believe two years ago, but it was really boring. I don't even remember the name that's how much I payed attention to it! It was for school though. It was something about a girl who lived in England and became a nurse and worked in these really old dirty hospitals that had it's own diseases hanging around. I didn't even finish the book.
|
Le Pere Goriot by Honore de Balzac.... It probably wouldn't have been so boring for me if I hadn't already read Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. After reading Les Mis, I don't think I need anymore 17th century French realism novels...
|
I actually liked To Kill a Mockingbird.
It was a tad slow though. I started to read... All Quiet On A Western Front. That must have been the boringest book ever. I never finished it. XD I got through like 100 pages. But that was about it. D: I'm not really into the whole war books though. Well, actually, I liked Red Badge Of Courage. That one wasn't too bad. |
