Haven't you guys ever read a book that's so great, you felt there ought to be a movie for it?

Which ones?

I for one read Twilight and New Moon, and there should definitely be a book for those.

There are some books that I would love to be a movie (can't think of any right now) but a lot of the movies that were based off the books completly destroyed the book. I have not seen one movie that stayed true to the awsome book that it was.

I agree, & there are plans for a movie based off of Twilight <3 I was really excited when I found out. (By the way, have you visited Stephanie Meyer's homepage, Winter Wind? She has the first chapter of Midnight Sun up, which is Twilight from Edward's perspective.)

I would love a movie based off of Jonathon Strange & Mr Norrell. Like LOTR (which you can say ruined the books or whatever you want, but those movies were damn pretty), its atmosphere would translate very well onto film. I don't know, maybe there would have to be several movies, but I'd really love them. Maybe then my world would be complete, but probably not 8D

EDIT: Here's the page where Ms Meyer talks about a Twilight movie [x].

& I think the Pride & Prejudice movie with Kiera Knightley was an excellent translation from book to film. Given, I read the book later, but the movie really captured the feel I got from the book -- Mrs Bennet was somewhat annoying but doting, Darcy was wonderfully standoffish yet somehow sexy, Jane was adorably naive & good. It is one of the few times a movie has done a book justice, but I think it certainly did do it justice <3

I really honestly don't trust producers with making movies out of books anymore.
I love Twilight and New Moon.
& I can't wait for the third one.
But seriously,
Look back at Harry Potter...
& Eragon...
they messed up...
Big time,
Personally...
& i would be really sad,
if something happened to Twilight if it was made into a movie,
because i believe that Eragon being mad into a movie...
made me not want to read the book.
=(
-sigh-
I hope Inkheart is going to be good.

I don't know, generally when books get ruined by movies it's because their plots are complex or the characterization gets thrown off or something. No offense, I love Twilight too, but that isn't the case with that book. It could easily be made into a movie -- there are few subtleties that would have to be noticed. The plot's straightforward & so are the characters. Of course, the producers could seriously screw it up by drastically changing the plot or something, but I don't see any reason they'd need to. The book is deliciously simple.

But there is a lot of details in it that would make me mad if they weren't right...
For one thing...
They are vampires,
& how are they going to make Edward and his family look pale & perfect?
Take Orlando Bloom and throw him in there?

Actually I have read books that I would love to never seen put to film. Usually when a book is made into a movie its usually done poorly out right ruins the books. At least in my experience.

There are many books that I would love to have visual aspects to it. The only thing that would bug me is that many movies do not live up to my expectations and I think that many books have been destroyed by bad movies.

I agree that Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell should be made into a movie. I'm just scared they'll butcher it like Eragon and Harry Potter...

  • I think Operation Red Jericho would make a good movie, because it's got a lot of explosions, and when do those not translate well to the big screen? Also, it's got pictures of the characters and settings, so no chance they could mess that up.

I'm in two minds about the whole book to movie deal, though.

On one hand, would I, in theory, like to see my favorite books made into movies? Seeing my favorite characters 30-feet tall? Possibly attracting more than two fans to my ridiculously small fandoms? Hell yes.

But on the other, I may have to deal with the phenomenon known as "Crappy Movie Ruins Book For Everyone".

One, it could turn out to be horrible, biasing any potential fans against the awesomeness of the book. Wraeththu, for example. They made a tabletop RPG for it a while back, which apparently sucked, making all the doughy little tabletop RPG fanboys point and laugh at us. So can you imagine what a crappy movie with an international release might do? You just know it would be live action, too, despite the impossibility of finding THAT many sexy androgynous actors who can, how do you say, actually act. *passes around petition for traditionally animated Wraeththu movie* If it wasn't cast and adapted just right I could easily see it ending up looking like a soap opera or porn or both. Only with more children being eaten.

Two, it could totally ruin your perception of the books, such is the case with weird casting choices or things that don't match the book's description. Also, these changes will probably influence any new fan's perceptions, turning one actor you didn't like into piles of fanart and numerous instances of you saying "Who the hell is this?" Oh, if they were to mess up Diablo in a Wraeththu movie, then I'd have to go bust some knee caps. D:<

Basically, what I'm saying is REMUS LUPIN IS NOT A 70'S PORN STAR! Holy crap, what were they thinking? D:

I had always thought there should have been a movie for Wizards First Rule, and for any book of the discworld series.

Wizards First Rule would make an awesome epic/fantasy movie, especially if they casted it right and followed the books.

Discword.. just a funny fantasy movie, probably better if it was animated. Those would be some amazing movies

  • It'd be cool if they made Rainbow Boys into a movie. It'd be very interesting in my opinion. Another gay movie to show how life is in high school when your not like everyone else.

I probably know tons of books I want to see on screen, but the only one I can think of right now, is Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett... That would be marvellous ^^

I have three in my mind,...

Cirque Du Freak,Series...its really good..but I think it could easly be messed up.

So You Want to be a Wizard,...series,..I like it but I dont want another Wizard movie compared to Harry Potter >->

Wolf Star,....an interesting series...I still have my friends book siting in my bookcase gathering dust. I havent finished it yet. Im to busy reading Harry Potter other serise and Manga .....Oh well ^-^

To say the least most books are better then the films,..why because the movies cant put in ever single detail from the book . Take Harry Potter for example,...its a large series and has tons of chapters,..how would they fit a 800pg book into a movie? I myself would love to sit through a 6 hour HP film...with potty breaks. But most movies based on books have to slim them down for the people who havent read the books. Take it or leave it.

  • Wolf Star! :D

Too bad there are tons of characters in that book that aren't described in much detail, that I've come up with images of. D:

Grem, Jotto, and Hraldnyazkool, especially. xD

A part of me would love to see a movie version of say 'Guards Guards' or any of the other books with Vimes & Co from the Discworld series..
But whilst the adaption of Hogfather that was on over Christmas wasnt exactly terrible, films/programmes never seem to add up to how you visualise the characters and events in your own mind.

And, I never want to see another 'Queen of the Damned' (book = excellent movie = dire, absolute swill )

i personally think that movies based off books never do the book justice so i never want to have a book destroyed or cut up by becoming a movie- however when i've finished books i have thought about what a movie would be like- like who would play characters or where it would be filmed or how badly they could mess it up lol

Something by Scott Westerfeld should to be made into a movie, preferably Peeps. That would make such an interesting movie. Though the plot is pretty intricate; everything has to be done in the same way as in the book or it gets screwed, because everything in that book adds up and plays some important part later on.
And they might make it too much of a horror movie -- I mean, it's a vampire book, but it's not a scary book.
Though So Yesterday would be pretty neat, as well. (I'd enjoy seeing the people who were covered in purple dye from the Poo Sham.)

Honestly? No.

Whenever I love a book to the extent that has most people wishing for a movie, I start getting over-protective. I'll recommend it to my relatives, maybe a few friends, but that's it. If it's a small fandom, it stays a small fandom. I don't want it going mainstream.

It's warped logic, I guess. Would you rather share an excellent book with everyone, or keep it to yourself and precious few others because it's that good?

Maybe I'm just selfish.

The sneeches and other stories by Dr. Seuss! XD.

Hmm seriously though I'd love the darren shan series to be a movie because they're just so excellent! and the philip ardaghs eddie dickens trilogy! There where rumours of both of those becoming films but I haven't heard anything for a few months now... hmm ah well.

Yeah... I absolutely love the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer but I'm afraid that a movie version would end up inaccurate like Eragon and Harry Potter.

I think that A Great and Terrible Beauty might make a good movie adaptation. x3

No because movies ruin it. The movies for Freak the Mighty and Holes were exceptions. Eragon was the absolute worst, and the Harry Potter ones, though they started off good, are getting worse and worse.
