Do you have a book that you're looking for, but you can't for the life of you remember the author or the title?
I had this one that I read as a child, but I could only remember bits of it. It was about a dragon who poisoned a woodland lake and then a unicorn that came and got rid of the poison. And I couldn't remember who wrote it or the title or anything, but my mom and my brother searched and found it! Strangely enough it was titled The Unicorn and the Lake. [/sarcasm]
I'm looking for the title or author of this book:
It's a junior fiction (or maybe young adult?) and it's some short stories about nuclear war. It starts with the actual bombing (in London maybe?) and then ends up years later after a mutation in human genetics occurs. All I can really remember about it is that there was a dog that died in the bombing and then at the end there were some people who lived underground and were normal and then other people who had evolved so that they had white fur on their skins and were telekinetic. I think it was called something like Children of the Dust but I can't remember. Every time I see that title, it's for a different book.
If you want to post here about books you can't remember, then maybe some of us can help you out to find what you're looking for!

That is me, but the book I can't remember is a manga... I seem to forgot the author AND the title, but I can remember very well with the character's names. Some of them, and the heroine's. At first, I thought it is named with some keywords of 'Lady', but then it turns out to be another manga. I was so shocked, and keeps on digging into the rental store to look at the books titles to find the manga I want. I don't think the manga is suitable to mention here, lol. But yeah, manga is still a book to me.
My favourite genre would be fantasy, adventure, fairytale, comedy, mystery and Light Science Fiction...so I have no idea of the book you are looking for. Good luck finding them~

I seriously do that all the time.
A book that's name was forgotten to me:
There once was a boy who bought a magical "rock" in a shop for a really cheap price. Turns out that the rock eventually hatched into a baby dragon~ (No this is NOT eragon) He took care of it all the time, fed it gallons of milk. He had to keep it a secret along with his friend. He went to the library and found this book about how to raise a dragon, which the librarian gave him. (She strangely happened to know about dragons) Later on, the dragon grew too large to be taken care of, and had to be sent to the dragon world. The boy got scratched by it, which was suppose to mean something, because the librarian had it too. She was some sort of dragon keeper. And then he always met the dragon in his dreams.
I think it was the best fantasy book I ever read in my entire life, but sadly I really just don't quite remember the name...-sighs-

@ Kitmew - I believe that its called Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher. I remember reading a book similar to that, and I believe that this was the title. I'm not sure, but if you find out, please tell me.
There was a book about two children with odd powers. The girl couldn't speak, but she could communicate with her mind and open doors if it was right. I forgot what the boy, her (I think older) brother could do. They were orphans and they were escaping someone or something. :( I'm not quite sure, but all I remember is that I enjoyed it immensely.

Synopsis:
It's a struggle to survive on post-apocalyptic earth.
In this first book in the trilogy of The Longlight Legacy, the wars have transformed the world, and 16-year-old Roan is about to discover a terrible truth.
When Roan's parents and the people of Longlight perish in a raid, Roan is filled with rage. Torn between his desire for revenge and the legacy of peace he has inherited, he is taken in by a sect of warriors. With them he learns he has exceptional talent as a fighter. But Roan is haunted by visions he can't understand. When he commits his first act of violence, he flees in disgust into the most wasted lands of all, the Devastation.
He meets friends and allies in unexpected places, as his enemies hunt him down. But it is only when Roan meets Alandra that he begins to understand his life's purpose and why his village, Longlight, was destroyed.
Dennis Foon has created an immensely powerful and disturbing look at a wasted world. Through the character of Roan, hope and the promise of renewed life seem possible.
This is a stunning, evocative, page-turning novel in a popular teen genre: sci-fi/fantasy.

I went to my sisters parent teacher interviews yesterday and when I walked into the library, I remembered two books that I read there that I loved but can't remember the title or author.
One was about several siblings who went on vacation to their aunt and uncles house (I think) in England (somewhere) and there is an image of a white horse etched into the ground. At one point, the youngest sibling (I forget her name) walked seven windershins around the eye of the horse and awoke the spirit of the horse that it represented (or something like that) The children then had to work together to retrieve some item. They had to follow an old poem that went like this:
Quote:
One for sorrow
Two for joy
Three for a girl
Four for a boy
Five for silver
Six for gold
Seven for a secret never been told
|
It's an old rhyme that refers to magpies. In the end, a dragon awoke to try and stop them. It was the first book in a series.
The second was about a young boy who ended traveling to a different place/time/dimension/something (keep in mind I read these about seven years ago) He met several different creatures though the spoke a different language and he couldn't understand them. He met someone who spoke his language though and they would translate for him. In the end, after helping the people of that world, a dragon gave him a cup of her blood to drink so he could understand their language. If I remember correctly, the main badguy was his father or something. I think it was also the first book in a series, though it could be a stand alone.
If these sound familiar to anyone, I would love to know. I wanna read them again!

I'm so glad someone made this thread, I was just thinking about this earlier!
My book was about a girl and her younger brother who lived with their grandmother because they had unfit parents I think. One day, the mother comes back asking to visit with the kids and ends up trying to move in.
But I remember one part clearing, the mother dyed her hair to be more like her daughter and the son asked what color her hair was and she replied something like "raven black".

So I gave up and googled the first book (question: why didn't I do that earlier??) and I found the name! It's called "The White Horse Talisman" by Andrea Spalding. It's the first book of the Summer of Magic Quartet. The second book is "Dance of the Stones", then "Heart of the Hill" and lastly "Behind the Sorcerer's Cloak". Now I must find them and read them!
Still don't know the second book. Can't remember enough about it to google it either. Probably never gonna find that one...

Obsidian, that second one sounds familiar to me too. Great, now I'm going to be bothered all day. At first I was thinking it was one book, but then I realised there weren't any dragons in the book I was thinking of. Hmm, I hope this isn't one o those sounds fmailiar but isn't things...
The poem is pretty famous. I've heard in several books, but that particular book doesn't sound familiar to me. I may have to check it out.
