I can't seem to find too many people who have ever heard of Barbara M. Hodges or Elizabeth A. Lynn. I personally find them both to be brilliant writers. Has anybody heard of them or read any of their books? If you have, what did you think of them?

Personally, Dragon's Treasure by Elizabeth Lynn is one of my top five favorite books. How about anybody else?

I'm currently reading the Daradawn series by Barbara Hodges. It's excellant so far. I just started the second book. I just finished the first book, The Blue Flame. The second book, The Emerald Dagger is next.

Let me know!

Chris Wooding is one of my favorite authors, but no one else seems to have read his books.

Also, I remember that Rick Riordan became another one of my favorite authors a little after The Lightning Thief was published a few years ago. Not many other people had heard of him back then, but now his books are doing really well. I feel proud that I was a fan of his before he got semi-famous. It makes me feel as though I spotted talent no one else did. ^^;

Hodges sounds familiar, but I'm not sure why. What type of stuff does she write?

I'm not sure but I don't think Darren Shan is one of the more famous writers. He wrote the [i]Cirque du Freak[/u] series. I would suggest that you try reading them. I've read every book besides the last.

mocha-san: she writes a lot of fantasy. she wrote the Daradawn series consisting of The Blue Flame, The Emerald Dagger, and The Silver Angel. She was also one of the authors in Stargazer's children and she and some guy that's escaping my mind wrote the Shadowy Worlds. She likes to write alot about alternate universes and lovers reincarnated over many lives that rarely end up together.

Luumi: what all does Chris Wooding write about? You're right that I've never heard of him. What type of writing does he do? Give me some of his books please?

the_anna135: I've never heard of Darren Shan. Do you have some of the names of the books in that series? What type of writing is it? Fantasy? Sci-Fi? PLease tell me?

No thoughts about Elizabeth Lynn?

Maybe I have just heard of her name somewhere. I don't think I have ever read anything she has written.

I read one of Chris Wooding's book - The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray. I really like it, it has great atmosphere (dark, dangerous London *_*) that charmed me first time.
Unfortunately, next time it wasn't so nice to read this books because I knew what will happend (although before I started I didn't remember anything except for general things).
But it's nice to find someone who knows this author because I also couldn't find anybody knowing him (except for my friends that read it after me 'coz I said them that's great) ^^

I think that I've heard something about Elizabeth Lynn but it's not anything concrete. And I didn't read any of her books.

An excellent (if a bit dry) author that I find very few people now know about is Leon Uris. He wrote QBVII - which was a book I ended up reading because no one else was willing to give it a chance (back in high school AP English) and my instructor really wanted someone to do a report on one of his books.

I don't remember what I was expecting back then (as that was sometime in 1997 or 1998) but I found that I really enjoyed his novel. He writes a sort of fiction-non-fiction that blends very well.

To this day, I can remember what that book was about and hit the highlights! XD I've managed to purchase and read a few of his other books as well. I totally recommend him as a highly underrated and very good author.

Just do not approach his novels with the mentality that you will finish them quickly. These are highly intellectual books that will require your attention to make sense.

Anyhow, that's my two cents! :3

...I always ask people if they've ever heard of Catherine Fisher (I absolutely adore her Oracle Prophecies trilogy ;3; *Luffs it into tiny pieces*), and they never have. But, when I do get my friends into reading her books, they love them. xD

Another one used to be DJ MacHale and his Pendragon series... but, I think that one's SLIGHTLY more popular now. However, it is still always a delightful surprise when I ask someone if they read that series and they say yes. Fangirling insues. <3

Wow, lots of new authors to check out.

I'm going to the book store to pick up the new Laurel Hamilton, but she's well known.

I haven't heard of any of the authors mentioned here except for Elizabeth Lynn; but I might be thinking of the Sci-Fi author Elizabeth Moon instead...

Kit Berry's an amazing author. But no-one seems to've heard of her either. :3 She wrote/is writing the Stonewylde series. Up to #3 so far. (:

For my fantasy that's not too fantastical, and that's often a tad dark, I turn to Lynn Flewelling. I mean, I've especially enjoyed her Nightrunner series (not a trilogy!).

Somercy, do you know when she's coming out with a new one? I
remember hearing something in one of the Nightrunner communities saying she was working on a new one but I haven't heard anything since.

Ah, ought have known that you'd be a fan. No, I've got no news on that. Didn't like the other stuff--the Bone Doll stuff--half so much, so I'd love more Nightrunner! You hear anything before me, tell me, mkay?

Nightrunner 4, Due out Summer 2008, has been named Shadows Return!

Hmm...Never heard of any of those. Has anyone ever read anything by Mercedes Lackey or James Mallory? The two joined together and wrote an amazing series called 'The Obsidian Trilogy'. I read most of it at work. ><

I love Shauna Singh Baldwin's writing, it's so good. What the Body Remembers I think is one of the best books ever.

Oh, I've heard of Mercedes Lackey! I have one of her books - Joust, I think it was - but I never got the other ones from that series, unfortunately. >: Too many other books that were higher priority </3 I'll try to look into getting the others when I have a chance, though. :3

I love Mercedes Lackey, I've got almost everything she's written. Which borders on like seventy books, I think. But she's pretty popular. She's even got filk music for her Velgarth books and dolls and other assorted stuff...
I read she doesn't do conventions anymore though because some of her fans are somewhat psychotic.
It's too bad because I'd love to get my hands on a signed book sometime.
I don't really like shopping on Ebay.

I personally hven't heard of them, but there are so many authors out there! I remeber titles rather than name!

But in my top 5 there is:

5. Robin Hobbs
4. Debra kent
3. Raymond Fiest
2. J.R.R tolkien
1. David and leigh Eddings

as you can see, I love fantasy books, anything involving magicians and sorcerers!

WILLIAM NICHOLSON

CLIFF MACNISH

MEG ROSOFF.

The latter is particularly brilliant and she rocks my socks. Macnish/McNish wrote The Doomspell trilogy which is basically on par in the children's fantasy world as William Nicholson's The Wind on Fire trilogy, which I personally prefer and think everybody should read. <3
