actually, the saddest story that i've
read was actually on the net over at
fictionpress.com
the story titled 'six feet from paradise'
by jd allen. mainly the focus is on a young
girl, who has everything going for her, she's
just about to graduate from high school, and
start college, when she finds out that she
has cancer. finding that out, leads to her
having to basically live at the hospital, while
trying to understand the how and the why, and
creating friendships when she least expected to.
here's the link if any of you would like to
read it: click here

I love sad books.
But proablly the saddest book I've ever read was "Forgotten Fire" I never, never, NEVER cry when reading a book, but this one was really sad, I almost did cry.
It was about a boy who's family were thrown out of his home, and his house was invaded, and his dad and I think his brother were killed right in front of him. Then he was forced into hiding, and his sister had some poison stuff and she drank it because she wanted to die, then he and his other brother escaped and his mother stayed with the sister that died. Then, him and his brother were running, and almost got caught by a guard, and him and his brother go 2 different ways. And he stumbles upon his friends house, and he stays there. Then he left his friends house to go find his brother, and he found his brother dying. Then he goes places, and meets people, and what's really sad is that once you get attatched to a character, they die. But it's really addicting. It's a really good book.
And I just realised, almost all the sad books you people are naming, I've read then >.<

I don't know, I would probably have to say one of the saddest books I have ever read was first off just about any book by V.C. Andrews. All of her books end up saddening me at the end. D;
Another book, that is pretty sad would have to be Flowers for Agernon. I mean come on, that one almost made me cry and we had to read that in like seventh grade. Such a tear jerker.

Hmmm, I recall reading a book called Walk Two Moons in sixth grade that made me cry... Which is rare for me when I read. New Moon wasn't sad. It was stupid. As was the rest of the Twilight series.
And also, "most saddest" is a redundant statement. I think the "most" should be dropped... Hmm, I'm sounding rather picky xD sorry.
The third book in the Harry Potter series also made me cry, but I think I was just in a really bad mood.
Has anybody here read A Child Called 'It'? A few of my friends have, and they all said it was probably the most cruel, sad book they had ever read.

Barbara Kingslover's The Poisonwood Bible oozes sadness (Ruth-May immediately strikes my mind, because you get to know her intimately as one of the narrators, but the numbers of deaths of others... it's unsympathetic to say the least.)
Case Histories by Kate Atkinson is pretty rotten. ;~;
The Wind on Fire trilogy by William Nicholson stomps on your heart. Several times. In big, steel-toed boots.
a swift, pure cry by Siobhan Dowd isn't necessarily overtly sad in what's what's written, but what you can infer is troubling.

Any of the holocaust books I've read are extremely heart-wrenching, They're true stories based on probably the worst abomination ever to come about, so they hit home pretty well.
I also cried at the deaths in Harry Potter, and any novel where someone dies who has been a significant character whom the reader could develop a relationship with during the chapters.

The saddest book i have ever read...probably cause i was pregnant at the time was called "The Playroom"...I gave it away as soon as i finished reading it. It was about this mentally abused child growing up and decided to throw a party and the people that she invited called her names and picked on her and ruined her party...then she got even with them by kidnapping them all including a pregnant woman...i don't think i need to say more on that one but it made me cry for days :(

Oh that is sad. The bridge to Terebithia (spelling?) was really sad for me, cause I sympathized a lot with the girl, but it was I am sad that you died, but I don't hate the author for it, it was very true to part of life though, it is sad.

Hm...I thought Reincarnation by Suzanne Weyn was pretty sad. It didn't make me cry or anything, but some bits were depressing. Or maybe it's just me...
The story was cute - as was the ending - but some of the endings of several of the lives were so sad. D:
