- Ooo! I absolutely adore Robin. One of my all time favorite authors. The Blue sword and The Hero and the Crown has always been my two favorites. After that was Rose Daughter and Deerskin.
X_X. I love all of her stuff.

I have yet to be able to land my hands on a copy of either of those but its not from lack of trying she is just hard to find.
I have read though Deerskin, Rose Daughter, Beauty, Sunshine, and Spindles end though I have found Spindles end to be a bit of a dud.

I've heard of her, and I actually saw some of her books, but I never had a chance to read it.

My teacher said that it was really good though! :)

If you get the chance you definately should....basically she takes fairy tails and well known stories and totally twists them around giving them a new spin.

I haven't read any of her work in years but in high school The Hero and the Crown was one of my favorite books. I still have the hardcopy around somewhere, I should pull it out and read it again. :D

I constantly recommend Rose Daughter & Beauty to people, Beauty was the first book I ever read by her. It's still on of my favorites.
Sunshine was ok, it didn't feel like it was as good as it could have been, in theory.
I've got the rest of them stacked up upstairs and I keep meaning to read them. :D

What, no mention yet of the Outlaws of Sherwood? I thought that was excellent tale, a very interesting Robin Hood, generally speaking. I enjoyed how well rooted it was in history, a lot of Robin Hood stories don't seem to make that attempt.
I think she's an excellent writer, generally, though I wasn't overly fond of Sunshine. It had its moments, but it didn't draw me in the way some of her other books had. It wasn't bad though. Still showed a lot of skill.

I love her work. My favorit is "Blue Sword" . I love how she portrays Harry as a strong yet still realistic. I have also read "Outlaws of Sherwood". This is a very different twist on the original story. Very different than what you will find in other stories of the classic Robin Hood. A book that I would recomend....in fact, I havn't read Robin Mckinglys books in so long that I should start to read them again. Thats what I will do. *goes of to read them again*

I've only read Blue Sword but I love that it's a strong female fronted protagonist.
Fantasy is one of my favorite genres.

I have read Spindles End and Deerskin and really liked them, even though Deerskin gave me goosebumps and want to kick Deerskin's father in the Royal jewels, Spindles End was a good laugh but i got a little confused at the end though :? I want to read more, my only real problem is availablity

- The Hero and the Crown is one I'll read over and over, I have a well loved extremely broken paperback copy from years and years ago. I keep meaning to get my own copy of The Blue Sword, but it hasn't happened yet >.<
I loved it, though.
Beauty made me tingle with joy, it was such a beautiful and thought provoking retelling of that particular story. Spindle's End was good as well, but not quite my fave. Eventually I'll have to read Deerskin.

I liked her when i was younger but most of her books are on the sad side and after a while i found i just got tired of reading sad books. My favorite was the blue sword or it was something like it. The main character was named harry. That was a great book.

I just finished Beauty, and I loved it. :). Now I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of her books, especially Rose Daughter, as every review claims that it's actually better than Beauty. Even so, I'm going to hold off on it for awhile, though. I don't want to read one adaption of Beauty and the Beast after another- it would probably feel redundant, and it probably wouldn't be as enjoyable as it would be if I wait. I'm thinking of trying Sunshine, or Spindles End next, but I'm not sure which one I want to read first. ^^;.
As for lack of availability.. that's weird. o-o;. My library has most, if not all, of her works. And Amazon has all of them available. Or by lack of availability, do you mean in bookstores? That's the only thing I can figure. And if that's the case, request that they stock her books. If they know that people want her books, they're more likely to stock them more often. :)

For people who are having a problem finding The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown locally, I would suggest trying a used book store, they usually have a decent fantasy section, especially of older books.
McKinley is one of my favourite authors, unfortunately all my good books are still packed. D:

I read Beauty a while back and absolutely adored it. More recently I tried Rose Daughter but I couldn't finish it (I got a couple hundred pages into it which I consider a decent try). The same happened when I read Spindle's End, I just didn't think it was that well written.
I think what I disliked about her writing was that she felt the need to over explain every tiny detail within the book to the point that it held back the plot. Basically, I found it tedious. At some point I'm going to reread Beauty, though, because when I read it I thought it was wonderful.
