I timed myself reading the Half-Blood Prince. Took me just under eleven hours I think. Not sure how fast that is compared to some, but I found it as a sort of achievement. ^_^

It depends on a lot of things: the pacing of the book, my interest level, what I'm reading it for. It also depends on the length of the book, although I have been known to read long books faster than some short ones. I like to take my time with a lot of books, so that I understand what the author is trying to say. I know I've read a book in two hours before, but sometimes it takes me weeks to finish a book.

That was about three years ago, and I read a lot faster now.
I think I got the fast reading from my grandmother, she reads a lot, and can finish a 300 pages book in a little more than an hour.
and I can do that, too when I concentrate on the book and when I'm really not distracted.
It's why I read books in english and not my first language.
English used to slow me down a lot, but now I read it almost just as fast as any book in dutch.

I KNOW I'm capable of reading at a rate of 6667 words per minute with about 80% comprehension (hurrah for speed reading), but I don't usually do that with books I read for enjoyment.

I've always read fast but I haven't really ever timed myself. If I'm really into the book or series I'll just keep reading constantly for hours and hours or days and days on end. I'm really horrible at reading in moderation. Alot of books I start reading and finish in one sitting and just ignore such trivial things as food and sleep. :)

I can do 300 pages in about 1.5 hours on average, and the longer HP books took me like.. 5 hours in total, not including when I was falling asleep reading it. xD

I read the first three harry potter books in three days. I read the fourth, the fifth, the sixth and the seventh in a little over one day each but I didn't sleep. I read the three books in the twilight series in two full days with minimal sleep.
When I really get into a book I tend to just get so sucked in that I forget to do much else. Most of the time I read a book in a few days or a week depending on it's length. I read any time I don't have something else to do so I tend to get quite a few books read in a short time and I'm always reading more than one book at a time.

It really depends on the author or the subject matter of the book. For instance, a good horror or romance story I can get through in just hours, and most of the ones I read are 300+ pages. So that's maybe half a day for one book? Fantasy books, especially in a series, take me a couple days to get through. I'm reading the Sword of Truth series right now and the first one took me about four days to read, despite it only being four hundred pages long because fantasy novels just move at a slower pace.

Reading quickly seems kind of pointless to me, at least if you're reading for the pleasure or leisure of it. Absorbing details is fine and all, but you're not taking the time to appreciate the story fully or the characters.

For me it also depends on subject matter, length, and the purpose for which it is red. I do approx. 350 pages in two hours -give or take thirty minutes or so- in a good fiction novel. The second time is always less.

But, if it's a non-fiction that I find appealing maybe 300 pages in three hours, I often stop at the end of a page to make sure I've got almost all of the information I need.

And if it's for school.... I run through it and just get the main ideas I find important.

I tend to read books really slowly. But the fasted I ever read one was about a week. I read slowly cause I only read every now and then rather than sitting down with a book and reading it to finish.

I usually read books slowly, usually.
I read "Twilight" and "New Moon" by Stephenie Meyer in about 2 days. :) That's the fastest I've ever read a book. Also I read "Nightlife" and "Moonshine" by Rob Thurman in about a week. :)

2hours, Twilight was the book.
I read the 7th HP book in one day, that's with pauses to allow for crying breaks for the deaths.

I read the 6th and 7th Harry Potter books...like whoa fast...I'm not even sure how long it was. I just know I was done with both of them in a day. (not the same day) I'm talking about when the 6th one came out I read that one in a day and then when the 7th one came out I also read that one in a day. ^^ Kind of disappointing.

How long of a novel? If it's a book I've read before, it usually takes less time. I can often re-read the entire Belgariad/Malloreon series (10 books - 12 if you count the prequels) in about a week, and that's only reading in the evenings. But that's because I've read those books so often I practically have them memorized. (My brother says I can probably read them in my sleep, and he's most likely correct!)

It depends on the book. If I really like it I can finish it in a few hours to a couple of days, depending on if it's a light read or not. Sometimes though, if I really like a book, I'll read it as slowly as I can so I can put off finishing it.

I've read each book from the Daughters of the Moon series in only a few hours. That series is a real page-turner and I didn't want to put them down.

I once read three novels in one night xD I stayed up till like 3am. I think that's still my record. I just read too much. but I know what you mean about not being able to read when your tired. the same thing happens to me. I'll just read something over and over and it just won't register in my brain.

  • depending on the topic the book is , some waver from subject to subject, it may take me less than a week. I'm n school, and work so it's hard to find time to sit down with a good book. More than most I'm at home or at a book store seeing what I can find. I wouldn't call myself a fast reader though, I know my friend Ashleys mom once read Eric Jerome Dickey's Cheaters in one day. She's what I'd call a fast reader.

I went through a sort of speed reading phase when I was younger. I am not sure how much of what I was reading I was actually processing, but I would speed through books. I think I did it more out of boredom in school to impress the people around me than for the love of reading.

We had these "days of reading" back when I was in Junior High. I think we would have one a quarter, or something like that. I never brought books of my own, I would just bum someone else's extra books they had laying around. I think I would finish about a book an hour.

In a more serious reading pace... I think the fastest I've completed one was probably in an afternoon. Again, I did that more when I was younger than I do now.

These days, I prefer to savour my books and stretch out my reading over a longer period of time to give me something to look forward to. I usually read a little bit at a time for a week to a month, but when I get really into a story... sometimes I just can't put it down.

Harry Potter #7 in 6 hours is my best accomplishment, I think. But I'm a relatively fast reader, and I love reading, and generally I'll finish a 500+ pages book in a day [unless I have lots of homework. :( Then I do homework and read an hour or so before bed.]

I read the books for school in about an hour, then I promptly forget it because it was boring and have to reread it. Other books, if there incredibly boring take we roughly a week. The 7th Harry Potter took me a day, and a murder mystery took me half a day

Those really got to me, as did the underlying family tones in the book because I was moving away for college and I was so homesick for my family. I just kept bursting into tears. It was awful.
