I absolutely love his work. I don't know why. I'm probably going through about my seventh novel by him and I still love how he writes. I've been reading the little skinny books, but I plan, after I run out of them, to upgrade to the bigger ones.
Has anyone else read anything by him, does any one else like him as an author?
Well, if you've not heard of him...does anyone else like scifi novels? I love them, it's all I've been reading recently. o_o;

He is the person who wrote the Book of Skulls, no? The book proved to be quite enjoyable.
I'm more into speculative fiction, fantasy, alternate histories... things like that.
Works like K.S. Robinson's Mars trilogy, Lem and Asimov left me cold. However, I do enjoy a good sf every now and then. Herbert. Simmons has some excellent sf works. LeGuin as well. And A Fire Upon The Deep by Vernor Vinge I've read recently and I feel can safely recommend.

Yes, I loved that novel by him. I thought it was quite good. I think my favorite one by him was 'Born Again'. I'm fairly sure that's the name of it. There was another one too...but the name of that one escapes me right now. x_x'
I didn't want that one that had killed himself to die. And I don't think that they ever achieved 'immortality' in the book, though I could be wrong. He does have a tentancy to kill off some characters that he builds up and gets people to like and to leave off at odd points so that you, personally, have to finish the story in your own mind. o_o;
But, yes, he did write that book. And, I've read it! :3 Someone else has read a book I have. XD

I agree about the one who killed himself... but we discover early in the story that he is a bit unstable by nature.
I think they achieved immortality. It would be really cold-blooded if they went through all that for nothing.
Its not the most obscure book ever. ^^

That's true, you do, so there was foreshadowing. You sort of saw that the other guy was gonna die too, especially if they were to stay there because he didn't believe at all in anything else of what was going on.
Personally, though, I just got this feeling like they'd been horribly tricked and that they'd lost two friends for nothing. But, like I said, he leaves it all up to interpretation at the end and that was how my mind finished it. It sort of finished it for me before I'd even had a chance to actually think about it well. x_x' Like I finished with the book and my mind was like 'Well, they just sort of killed two of their friends for nothing. They're going to die in that desert.' But, of course, they did keep saying how all the people there looked like they'ed lived there forever--but, then again, look at all that stuff that they were doing every day. X_x Who wouldn't look like they'd lived there forever after eating no meat and staring at the sun until your eyes practically bled? D:
I'm glad it's not the most obscure though, because, even though we both sort of interpreted it different, it's still fun to chat with someone else about it. :3!

I liked how the narrative shifted between the PoVs. When I first picked up the book, I thought it was going to be something meh. But it wasn't.
The glass is half empty, right? XD
What are the other sf writers you would recommend me?

I thought that it was going to be really stupid too. XD 'The Book of Skulls'. It sounded so horribly cheesy. <_<; And I thought that it started out kinda weird too. o_o; But it was all right. It was good. I started liking how he shifted from one person to another as well and looking forward to certain person's chapters. XD I don't have the book any more though, I think my brother has it now. o_o'
I guess it is, for that book. <_<;' I think that it made me sad when that guy killed himself (though, like you said, I should have seen it coming because he was eccentric and odd. And I remember that too.) So the glass was probably half empty because I knew two people had to die and It wasn't the two I hoped it was going to be. I guess I'd wanted them to find a way for three people to live there. XD ~Dork.~
I can't really recommend many authors. I was just starting to read again when I found his work. I was reading H.G. Wells, which, as far as classic scifi goes, I love him. I still need to read 'War of the Worlds' and 'Food of the Gods'. o_o' I think I at least have 'War of the Worlds' though. Most of the scifi I read was books on really old scifi movies, if you want a good book on a movie--THX 1138 and Logan's Run were both really good. ^_^'

Yes, I love him. I just finished another book by him a moment ago. It was a whole bunch of short stories that he'd written. It was called 'Unfamiliar Territory'. It was pretty good. ^_^'
