Brilliant!
I've been waiting for a thread like this for a while.
I love Lovecraft's books.
They were the first "horror" books that I ever enjoyed in my life.
Cthulhu ftw.

Nayru: HP Lovecraft is a writer.
Do you mind swiping your thumb over the caps lock button a second time? It's hard to look at.
I think Lovecraft is hilarious. I admire his creativity, but I could never take his stories seriously.

Lovecraft is love. I want the Cthulhu plushie! Have you read the Hello Cthulhu webcomic? Those were three random sentences, you know? Not much connecting them.
Anyway, I have the short story book that is called . . . LaLa Has A Bad Memory . . . it has the first couple of Cthulhu stories, the one about the rats in the castle that the guy rebuilds, the one with the guy who lives his whole life without any human contact, then finds his way out of his house and finds a party, only to discover he's a monster or disfigured . . . yeah, that collection. And the story with the guy who photographed demons to paint them. ^_^
I need to read more Lovecraft. Did you know there's a Cthulhu movie in the works?

I'm amazed that there hasn't been a Lovecraft thread before this!
He is one of the classics that all horror fans should read. Poe was creepy, and set up the short story, Lovecraft made it enjoyable to read and an art! XD

Hah, thread necro in a thread about Lovecraft... Charles Dexter Ward would be proud. Or furious. Not sure.
But I digress.
Who can forget the first time they read one of his stories?
For me, it was At The Mountains Of Madness, and since then, I've had the complete horror of your accepted understanding of the world being turned upside down burned into my mind. I can just see them, in the ice and cold, with these.... things. Gn'eh.
Gotta love some Cthulhu, too.

Mmmm I love me some Lovecraft <3
I think my favorite story of all is The Music of Erich Zann, something about the whole setting just really does it for me. The rickety back streets, the dilapidated buildings disappearing into the city as if they never even existed. Ugh, I love it.
It's kind of upsetting to see so little attention from people for a thread about the greatest of horror writers :( they're all too busy molesting their copies of twilight or whatever.
Forget lame-o vampires, Cthulhu forever <3
I dunno if anyone would be interested but I'm trying to build interest in a Miskatonic U. RP over in the OOC thread in the roleplay forums. It's definately got to be literate, so if you're interested at all, please come say so :D

Oh man, agreed. He's definitely one of my favourite authors. It's actually kind surprising how little attention this thread's gotten. I really hope more people will pick him up, it's really worth it.
If anyone tries to introduce someone to his writing, I think one of the better stories to start them with Cold Air. It's not a mythos story, but I think it's one of his better works. Or The Thing On The Doorstep, even.

I've not read a lot of Lovecraft, but what I have read, I really enjoy. I like horror stuff, and most of his stories creep me out even if they are occasionally a little ridiculous. So, for giving me shivers at bumps in the night-- good job, Mr. Lovecraft.
My favorite story of his that I've read so far is "The Rats in the Walls." Mostly because it frightened me the most.

Blast to the past post. But I just wanted to find out if any of you H.P. Lovecraft fans had read the comic series "Fall of Cthulhu" and didn't want to start my own thread.

Have you read anything from Lovecraft? If so, what is your favorite story he wrote?
I personally love "Rat in the Walls", the story was short and simple and managed to give me the hebee jebees for days!
His writing style is so different than other horror writers, I was so inspired by one of his books when I was younger that I did a painting based on it.
