The genre and the blurb on the back.

For me if its a known author that I have read before,I'll usually read their latest.Otherwise in the case of trashy romance,if I see a hot looking guy on the cover,I grab it and read the back,then decide from that.Sometimes a title will catch my eye and I'll look then too.
I usually buy my own books since I love to read,and dont want to give em up.The cost of gas is another reason I rarely use the library here.

I'm the one whos' made a family library. My parents dont read English books. Not that they dont know how to speak English, they do. They just prefer to read in Spanish. So its my job to get as many English books as I can and force my younger sister into reading them. Doesn't work though.
I've already told my mom that they are going to my children.

Usually I get hooked on an author. Jane Austen, or Auugusten Burroughs for example. If not, its a series.
Other than that, I usually just go with what people recomend to me.

I like books because when I'm about to go to sleep, I can't, and so I read books. Also, whenever I'm sad I read xDDD

Normally if I am not in the mood to do a lot of my normal things I'll read, book title or what I read on the back, the last two is usually what it is when I go to the library.

Sometimes a book can catch me by it's title or cover image, but usually I don't pay any attention to those sorts of things and I always end up reading the back of the book. If it's interesting, then I flip through the book, read a few pages, and then if it's got my interest, I'll start at the beginning and read it. I also check out books my friends have recommended, or books that feature a subject that I'm reasearching and/or interested in. I very rarely read a book just because of an author that wrote it--I usually like a certain type of character.

SOMETIMES I read books that are going to be made into a movie--I did that with Eragon (because I thought Garrett Hedlund was hot when I saw him in a movie poster and that made me want to read the book) and wasn't very pleased, but...eh. Whatever.

I buy books. I have a library of books, because I know that if I liked it at one point of time, then I'll probably like it again. It's kind of like a little way to keep in touch with who I was at a certain point in my life...and, anyway--you never know WHAT could spark an idea. I like having books at hand...to read, if I'm in the mood for something, or to loan out to a friend.

To be noted: I AM my family's personal librarian. I'M the one with all the books.

The first thing that will attract my eye is a familiar author name.
If it's not a familiar author, it's the attractiveness of the cover, followed by the creativity of the title. If those are interesting to me, I read the back or the first page/introduction.
If those yeild nothing, I start looking at books that aren't as interesting in appearance and just read the afrementioned parts of those to see if they're interesting.

If I'm buying books, I always look for an author I know first. If I find something I've been waiting to read by an author I like, or just something I've read of but never seen, I'll always buy it and read it. After that I look for interesting titles, or an interestingly decorated spine. Since they're books I know nothing about, though, I'll always read the spine and judge by that. It's a pretty good method, I think!

Usually, I read books my sister buys that sound interesting. Otherwise, I generally go by author first. Then, by genre. Sometimes I decide to read a book after seeing the movie. I got all the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants books after I saw the first movie. (I'm going to see the second movie Tuesday! I can't wait.)

It happens on urge, I'm an addict! Every school day, I feel myself being pulled to the library, reading summaries and picking out a book. Then, I feel myself pull the book out in class, after doing my work of course, and burying my nose in it! I don't need help for this addiction though, cause I love this addiction!

My family library consisted of atlas', so I had to make my own. I judge books by their cover. :oops:

I honestly buy anything that really caught my interest. Some lesser known authors write really good books, some well known authors write horrible books. Famous authors aren't always the best

When I'm at the used book store near where I live, I'll browse through books, reading a few pages here and there and if I find something interesting enough, I'll read it. I'll read books in my parents library, but they don't have enough to keep my interest. I also lost my library card, else I'd probably be looting the library as well for literature.

My library though, personal wise is amazing. It keeps growing. Some books I haven't read in a while, but I know when i have my own place I'll just have a room full of so many books for people to read if they want to while they visit. I could start my own library.

I'm a reader, and I read pretty fast too. It helps me improve my writing and gives me a strange feeling of contentment that I'll be able to maybe be one of those published books on the shelves of all those bookstores.

A familiar authors name.
A good synopsis.
Sometimes even the cover.
I don't often rely on suggestions because I tend to be fairly eclectic about book taste.
I have noticed, however, that I am leaning more and more towards urban fantasy and alternate realities so I generally google and refine searches and write down interesting titles as I go and look for them in whatever book store come to next.

A good summary, description, and first few chapters. I tend to actually read the book in the store and if the first few chapters don't capture my attention I usually chuck it and go to the next one. I also like a good summary.

Some things that make me want to read a book is if it has an interesting plot. Some other things, I'm really picky about, like whether or not it is romance. I will only read non-romance type books, but if some are really good, I'll read them. I also think if the characters are well developed and have unique personalities, they will make me want to read a book. For me, I like fantasy books the best, so I would pick anything that has to do with the supernatural or something along the lines of fantasy.

what makes me read is book is usually the back of the book that has the summary of the book ( or if its in the inside too sometimes) and the title of the book, and sometimes i pick a book because i like the author or something, or if someone told me its a good book.

but i usually never buy a book, without first reading atleast the first few pages as well. ^^

Usually, when I go to a bookstore to look out for some new titles, I check out the covers. If the cover is interesting and looks like it has good quality art, I'd grab it and check it, read the synopsis at the back and if it sounds like something I would like, I'll buy it ^^ I am the total opposite of the phrase 'don't judge a book by its cover' XD

Or usually, books would be recommended by my friends or sister who have the same taste in books as me :)

I can't pin what draws me to a book on one thing... because depending on the book it could have several drawing points.
I'll admit that I'm a very visual person so a good cover design in general will definitely grab my attention... though it might not keep it.
Then I'll almost always read the cover blurb to see what the premise of the story is.
I've taken to reading the first paragraph or so to see if a book can grab my attention as well.

Then there's whether or not I know the author.
If it's a Palahniuck that I haven't read, I'll just pick it up and purchase it without reading the cover. I love his work, so it's a given that I'll love the new novel.

Subject matter is always a tell-tale sign of whether I'll be interested.
War-time? Not so much. Fantasy? Yes please. Historical? Depending on the era and events, maybe.

And references always help, too.

If I judge a book, I often judge by title instead.

Mostly my choice of books is dominated by the plot.

I don't buy books, cause my biggest fear is that I wont like it. I'd rather lend from library, and if I find a book that I love deeply, then I'll maybe buy it. But I don't often read books twice. Some books might get in my "favorites" category, but when I'm done with a book, I look for a new one instead.

I look at the cover or the title, and then I read the description. Sometimes I read the first few pages too, if I'm unsure.

Firstly, you look at the cover and get a basic idea. Secondly, you read the discription, seeing if your intrested in it and finally read the first 3-4 pages just in case.

Genre -> Author/Cover -> Plot

That's generally how I find books. I usually go to the romance section first, then make my way to non-fiction/fiction, and then, young adult... There are some authors I've found that I really like, so I usually look for books by them. I also go by covers. I don't know why. If I pick up a book, and it just has a big picture of an old guy, I generally put it back. I don't know why. And of course, the plot is the most important part.

Reading the first few pages is a good idea. I haven't really done that. I'm more the type to read the ending...

Usually what attracts me to a book is first the cover. Is it eye-catching? If so, I'll pick it up. Second is what the title is; it has to be something catchy. Third, is if the description is well written and makes the book suspense full.

Though, if I'm in a bookstore and wanting to buy the book, I must first read the ending. I will only buy it if the ending is happy. ^-^ Otherwise I'd save myself $8-Whatever amount and disappointment . . .

The cover usually draws me in when I am just randomly looking at a bookshelf. It need not have pretty art just some thing different that makes it stand out from the rest. Some times I just randomly grab a book and look at it reading the first few pages to see if I like it. Or if it was a book by an author I like or suggestion from some one I grab it too.

I hate to say it, but most of the time it's the cover. I lover cover art, unfortunately I've wasted some time on reading pretty terrible books because of a pretty cover but have also read some awesome ones too.
