by word of mouth or reaserch sometimes by the cover
|
If the back sounds interesting, if it has an interesting title, or is recommended by a friend. I'm usually not to picky when it comes to whether or not I'll read a book. However, I will stop reading a book if it starts getting to boring, or sounds too much like an overused plot.

What interests me first is the cover. And, obviously from the summary. x) If they're ugly, I most likely won't read it. x) |
The cover & title usually draw me in but it's the synopsis that gets me to actually read it.
Also if it seems to have a good following of non-scary non-rabid fans then I'll give it a shot. |
There are a few things that get me wanting to read a book.
|
Firstly, I look for the books by the authors I know and love.
Then, I look for plot description. After that . . . it's a lottery draw, far as I'm concerned. When I run out of books to read by the authors I know, I'll simply peruse the shelves, look for titles that jump out at me, and read the back cover. If the back cover pulls me in enough, or if it seems too vague, I'll start reading chapter one. If that doesn't pull me in, then I'm not likely to ever read it. So... 1: Author 2: Plot 3: Title 4: Back cover 5: First chapter test |
I read books based on cover, word of mouth, popularity, author, whether or not it's a classic, first sentence, title, reccomendations, recognizing the name, or if soemthing about the book reminds of of something else I like. I read alot, so I can't afford to be choosy of how I pick my books. XD Rarely do I read the back or the inside cover, though, I really like Just finding out how things unfold! It's so much fun to dive into a book without even knowing whaty the plot is supposed to be or who the main character is.
|
What makes me read is a book is because its fun, i love to read, I see that the book is interesting I'll read it. Sometimes if i see a movie and its based on the book and if its a GOOD movie I'll go and borrow a book from the library sometimes. only if i have time too
|
I usually look for something in the title. I like a lot of fantasy, so anything with the words werewolf, vampire, magic, fairy, etc... Also, I like books with weird names.. Such as Cirque Du' Freak [great books!]. If something catches my attention, I read the synopsis. If that doesn't tell me anything, I flip to a random page in the book and read 4 or 5 pages. I never read the first few pages of anything to see if I like it because I know quite a few books that are hard to get in to but are great in the end.
Besides just going out and looking for books, I'll get on forums and look at the book recomendations. If it sounds interesting, I'll look it up and read the synopsis. Also, if there's a lot of poeple recommending the book, I'll add it to my reading list. [currently at 36 books, with about 15 to read before that :)] |
I usually first look at the title and front cover, and if it looks and sounds interesting I flip it over and read the blurb. If I'm good with that, I either borrow the book from the library or buy it. Most of the time this is a good method, but like they say, some books you reeeeeeeeally don't wanna judge by their cover... *shudders at the memory*
|
I look for good character development above anything else. If I like the characters and the way they interact with each other then it doesn't really matter what the plot is about and conversely it doesn't matter if the book has a great plot if the characters are underdeveloped there's no way I'm going to be reading it for very long.

Story,
I know how it sounds, but I just pick up some book and read. I'll get caught up even in a incredibly slow story or plot and have to buy the book to finish it (or I finish in the store) if the book was good the next day i go browsing for that author. I has many many many books and a small apartment. If i kept them all here I wouldn't have room to sit down. my method probably doesn't work for anyone else, but if you use it I already like you. |
kyah.
I pretty much don't buy books unless I know I'm going to like it. Everything else I borrow from the library first. Or. Ya know. Read at the bookstore. As I stated before: If the first chapter doesn't lure me in, I don't bother with it. |
Well, mostly because I like reading xD
It's an entertaining thing to do and pass your time with. Sometimes I read because I have to (school) or because I have nothing to do :P Another reason could be because I'm reading a book which will soon be a movie, or because I friend recommended it to me. Aaanndd... also because I might be reading the saga of a book I liked. |

What makes me want to read a book, I'd say if I try to read a couple first pages first, and see if it seems interesting. It's not the cover, because the quote of "Don't judge books by their cover" has gotten into my head, and it's a very true quote. However, I'd probably also say the back XD. I read the summary in the back to know what it's kind of about; I wouldn't care if anyone famous wrote a book, but I'd probably still read it<3. Sometimes I buy books.. : ) |
To be honest, no one in my family likes reading!
while I read for entertainment, they watch t.v or something...and I unfortunately dont have anyone -at home- to discuss the book I am reading. For instance, my dad thinks its a waste of time, my brothers avoid the discussion and my mom is usually busy...which puts me off... But ,for some reason, with every book, novel actually, I finish, I get this sense of accomplishment or something and it feels good...as long as I have a good book to read!! |
It depends on what the book is about, and if it interests me or not. I don't like history books though.. I like reading Twilight, Harry Potter, and Manga type stuff.
|
In most cases, what makes me read a book is what's it about. I want to be prepared for what I will be reading because I do not want to buy a book and then it turns out that it's completely horrid all over. I also look on websites such as Amazon to look at the ratings of the book and reviews people make about it. That is what makes me buy a book.
|
I like books that have pretty font on the binding. That is what catches my eye. >.< I know it sounds petty, but tis the truth.
|
Most usually it's either the title of the book or the cover that drags me in, Unless someone has recommended a book for me or I've been searching the local library database. Then even if the title or the cover isn't very appealing, i still pick it up and read the blurb. In the end, If the blurb doesn't sound interested at all, i won't bother. No matter how good the title is, or how nice the cover looks.
|
Well what gets me to read a book is that I read the back of it and then like maybe the first two pages of the first chapter. But if the name catches my eye and I'm just excited about it then I'll read it without doing the first two. Or if my friends suggest a book and said that they basically fell in love with it then I give it a try. Usually they don't read good books though! :P lol

Whenever I look at books, The title or the nice artwork will grasp my attention. Especially if i Like the summary in the back, I'm The fantasy type kind a reader.:)
|
Books I buy and books I get from the library have two different methods I use to decide which ones I want.
The library decision is the easier one. I simply read the little description on the back of the book (or the inside flap of the cover). If it sounds interesting I read the first page. If it is still interesting I check it out to take home with me. This usually lands me with about 20 books though... Buying books, however, is a longer process. I have to read the description, the first five pages, and then about three pages in the middle. If it is interesting I put it down on a list of books I might buy that day. If I am already dead set on getting something I just read a couple pages to decide if I really want it. |
If both the cover and the summary of the book sound interesting-that's generally what gets me to want to read the book.
