n_n I feel that way sometimes. I'll be reading a really good book and think 'hey, this song goes well with the theme of this book!'
I think it's because in a way a song is kinda like a small story too. They are telling us something from the artist and writers point of view.

I love it when the music or song of the movie really matches the book like in my opinion happens with Harry Potter yay!

I make playlists for my books, like when I'm rereading something I've already read and I like it a lot, I'll make a playlist on i-tuns for it. If we can apply songs to movies and situations in our lives then certainly they can be applied to books. XD
I think Argue by Matchbox 20 is a good song for Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine. :3 (Oh Shi* sacrilege!)

Hmm... I tend to relate songs to my own characters more than anything, but I sort of have listened to songs and related them to books before. It usually happens by accident, when I'm reading and listening to music at the same time.
Comatose by Skillet reminds me of Edward and Bella from Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (as I'm sure a lot of you know by now). All That I'm Living For reminds me of the Jackal, The Only One reminds me of Alexos, and Your Star reminds me of Mirany... all songs by Evanescence for all characters from The Oracle Prophecies trilogy by Catherine Fisher, hah. <3
There are probably more, but I don't remember them right now. D:

I realized the song "Forest" by System of a Down kind of reminds me of how Mrs. Coulter acted in "The Golden Compass" not the other books in His Dark Materials, but still. That's really the only time I've noticed something like that with a book, but, ummm... yus.

"Ender Will Save Us All" by Dashboard Confessional is supposed to have nothing to do with Ender's Game aside from being a nifty literary allusion, but it really does work as a tribute to the book if you read it with a heavy focus on Ender's angst!

Well when I was reading New moon (i thought the twilight series was kind of retarted 'no affence anyone who worships it') I thought the song Almost lover really went with it. look up the lyrics, it really suits it well.

I was reading God Stalk, which is an amazing but amazingly unknown book by P.C. Hodgell and listening to Coldplay's A Rush of Blood to the Headalbum, and had to put the cd on repeat until I finished the book because it fit so perfectly with the atmosphere the story was creating in my head. But then I started to wonder, what if I had had a different album on while I read it for the first time? Would that have changed the experience, and how? Obviously you can't read a book for the first time twice, so it's unlikely that I'll ever know. Anyway, the song Politik in particular sort of fit with the character of Jame Taleissen, though not necessarily the words. The feel though, you know? . . . yeah
I also put on the soundtrack for The Fellowship of the Ring while I was reading The Dalemark Quartet by Diana Wynne Jones, and have not regretted that at all. The two created wild green spaces in my head. Electric. I can't explain it.
The first time you read anything really affect the way you read it later. At least, that's the way it is for me. I even put off reading The Order of the Phoenix for nearly a month because the place where I was living at the time almost always had the Spice Girls or some crazy Disney or pop medley on (*shuddershudder*) and I didn't want to ruin my first experience of it. This after I had made a point of getting a copy as soon as it came out. I pretty much breathed Harry Potter at the time (some things don't chnage a whole lot *cough*) So I definitely spent the month occasionally stuffing my fingers in my ears and humming loudly to avoid spoilers. Or people reading out spoiler-ific passages in baaaad Spanish accents. :(
But anyway, I definitely know what you mean by a book having a theme-song - only I think it should really be a soundtrack.

I have always thought that "Hell is for Children" by Pat Benatar would make a good theme song for The Black Jewel Trilogy By Anne Bishop.
P.S. Don't type when you're half asleep. It just looks weird.

The entire time I was reading the Twilight saga, I was listening to Evanescence's Open Door cd and Snow Patrol's Eyes Open cd. I think those cds went perfectly for me with those books. :) Especially New Moon, that one was my favorite.

Not in so much that the music itself is similar to the books. I have a hard time linking tonality and rhythm to combinations of words more complex than a sentence. However, I did listen to The Rasmus all the time I was reading the first Women on Fire book, and now I remember it every time I hear a Rasmus song.

My favourite book actually has a soundtrack! :)
The book is I, Lucifer by Glen Duncan, it's a really good book. The soundtrack shares the title and was produced by (The Real) Tuesday Weld, who happen to be my favourite band thanks to the book and I'm now friends with their singer.
Apparently the author and singer were living together and decided to write/compose at the same time.
I highly recommend both the book and the soundtrack.
