Okay so when I was younger I read a few, but recently I have been on a tiny bit of a binge. Mainly I like to read stories about Queen Elizabeth I, the Boyelns, and the other players in that whole era. ;'3

Have you read any historical fiction? If so which ones? Recommend any? :'3

I'm very much into novels about the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars - a couple hundred years after your period - like the Horatio Hornblower series (by C. S. Forester) or the Aubrey-Maturin novels (by Patrick O'Brian). Both of these series are good, though fairly different from one another in style. For the same time period from the side of the French army, there are also Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Brigadier Gerard stories.

Other than that I do not really read much historical fiction, I guess, although I think I did a couple of the Royal Diaries (an offshoot of the Dear America series), but they don't seem to have been very memorable. I like some of Jane Austen's stuff, but that was written then . . . ditto Sir Walter Scott's Waverly Novels (one of which I just started reading).

Hi, I recently, well a year or so ago, got into Historical fiction. I love anything Medieval and from Tudor time period.

Phillipa Gregory's Tudor novels are great.

I started with Anya Seton's Green Darkness - a great read. I wasn't so sure about it in the first chapter, but after that it is awesome.

I then got into Phillipa Gregory. I've read, The Other Boleyn Girl, Constant Princess and The Boleyn Inheritance. I want to read the rest of them.

I am now always on the search for good Historical novels. What have you read?

Oh, thanks. I'll check that one out too. I like Mary's stories.
I really loved the Other Boleyn Girl and they are making a movie of it.

Do you watch the Tudors series at all?

Ok, back on topic of books, I have a bunch saved on Amazon that I will get the tiles for. Maybe you've read them. Mostly about the Tudors.

Historical fiction eh? Personally, I love Ann Rinaldi's books. They're interesting and yet they have history( something I would've never imagined). Most of it's American history though, so if you hate American history, there are probably better books for you to read. But if you're interested, you should read her book An Aquaintence with Darkness.

Deviating slightly, I confess, from proper historical fiction, there are the Lord Peter Wimsey mystery novels by Dorothy L Sayers. They were both written and set in England in the 1920s-30s, but quite a few of them are very rich in the material of the period in a way that I tend to associate with historical fiction. None of them (I think) tie in with any particular significant historical event, but the cultural backdrop is (in some of them) very prevalent.

And, while I'm thinking about mysteries, there is the Brother Cadfael series, set in England over the course of 1135-45. Sometimes they just go their own independent way, but the civil war between King Stephen and Empress Maude frequently works its way into the events of the books.

I read a few really good historical fiction books.
One was for class, and the other my friend read and said it was a really god book
One was called Listening For Lions, it was about a girl who's parents were killed by influenza, and her struggle to survive
And the other was Forgotten Fire, and it was about a boy who' parents were killed, and his struggle to survive.
Yes, I am a fan of sad stories, they're just the most interesting of all >.<[/b]

i've read some good historical novels.

my favorite is Danielle Steel's Zoya which is during the Russian Revolution on 1900s.

One thing i like in historical novels is that they also give information on what it is like living during the that historical period.

and it's like time traveling. :D

I use to love historical fiction too, but I kind of became disinterested when I got older. I still love books about the royals though. It's almost as good as watching a soap opera.

Anything by Anne Rinaldi. All of her works are wonderful and I would die to meet her.

She tends to write on American History. Things during the Revolution, the Civil War, and things such as that.

Here is a list of books that I've read by her. She has more, but these are the only ones I've read that I can remember the names of, off the top off my head.

---Wolf by the Ears
---Sarah Revere
---In My Fathers House

Hey, you should read The Knight of Maison-Rouge by Alexandre Dumas. It's about a knight whose loyalty lies to the queen, even during the revolution. It's really intense and has an amazing, intricate plot (hey, this is the author of The Count of Monte Cristo and The Three Musketeers, after all).

Be sure to give it a try if you have any time. :)

I'm afraid my tastes in historical fiction go back a bit further in history. But if you're ever interested in reading about Alexander the Great, Mary Renault has some really excellent books that I've been slowly working my way through.

I'm really interested in some of the books posted here... I'll go check them out sometime! Thanks for all the recommendations, everyone.

I don't read any type of historical novels, but my daughter loves to read everything historical, especially about the old english history of all the kings and queens, she can almost recite the history of them in chronological order, she is also reading american history. She will read novels and true historical fact books, I find it rather boring, I love horror novels and mystery novels

Tales of the Otori.

Its a lovely series. You get sucked right into the book. there are a few times where it gets a little dry and boring but, the action romance and heart-wrenching scenes make up for it.

I love it. <3

I've recently gotten into historical fiction too. right now I'm reading a historical fiction series by William Stuart Long called The Australians. It's about the discovery and colonization of australia. It mostly follows the life of a girl named Jenny who grew up in London and then got deported to Australia as a criminal for a crime she didn't commit.

another good historical fiction book I've read is Stowaway. I forget who it's by though.

To be honest, I've only ever read Historical Fiction written by Philippa Gregory. [hides] I've been intent on unearthing some other authors for my collection but I just don't know what's good or not.

The Tudor and Elizabethan era makes for a fun read. I think I'd be able to read just about anything that isn't 18th/19th century.

Why hide? I like Phillipa Gregory! :D I am also trying to expand my Historical fiction collection. I really like the book that was recommended earlier - The Last Boleyn. Also, Green Darkness by Anya Seton is a good book.

Edit: this hasn't fallen off the first page so I guess I can't post again T.T. But I am excited, I bought 2 books on the weekend. "Mademoiselle Boleyn" and "Katherine". I will let you all know what I think. I also found 2 great forums for Historical Fiction.

I love both history and fiction books, so I read a lot of historical fiction. And nonfiction, of course.
