*dorkily giggles at her own title* xD
Ok, since this is the book section, I think most of us here are more or less a book lover and most probably have some collection of books that we like, right?
It can be any books, picture books, comic, japanese manga, textbook, sci-fi books, romance novels, guide books, photo albums, artbooks, graphic novels, telephone books, poetry books, your diaries, cookbook, your self-made book, etc.
So which ones among those book that you think you would keep and pass to your children and grandchildren, just because you really, really love those book?
I have this bundled of cooking recipes passed down from my grand grandma to my mom and then to me. I'm thinking of binding it into a book and pass it to my children. Oh and maybe my silly collection of "How to______for dummies guide books" xD
How about you?

The question is, which wouldn't I? I think it would partly depend on the grandchildren themselves: what are their personal interests?
Top of the list is, of course, The Cat in the Hat, followed by Where the Sidewalk Ends. My own grandmother (and my aunt, and one other person I can't remember) gave me a copy of Watership Down; I think I'd continue that tradition. My father told me to read JRR Tolkien, so there's that, too. And I actually have a rather large collection of books that were owned by my father and even his mother when they were kids. I want my own children to be able to enjoy a book, and later discover that it has their great-grandmother's five year-old handwriting on the inside cover.

My grandchildren will darn well read the Serendipity books I read! D< -shakes cane-
In all seriousness, I think the stories and art in the Serendipity books are so lovely, I'd like to pass down the set to my children and granchildren.
And of course they'd all have to read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and The Hobbit. :3

I don't think I'd just leave them a couple of books from my collection- if my future children and grandchildren love reading as much as I do, I'd let them borrow whatever book they want from my collection- provided they're the kind of children/grandchildren that would return them unharmed, that is. As for ones that I'd actually give them, I'd give them any picture books that I have currently left over from when I was a child- I still have a few Berenstain Bears books left, a Bunnicula pop-up book, and a Franklin book. They may not be in the best shape, but I did love them, and I'd hope that they would, too. :).

i think its ferry importent to rember even if YOU like reading, it dos not mean they will. and it dos not mean they like the *then* old musty book from granny and gramps. there will alway's be new best sellers new clasics. and new hip authers.
and don't even forget that that the books wil be something like they daily live from 1970 in 2008.\the fun wil not be the same.
i hope some of you get what i mean

@ Wicked: Regardless of whether or not they like to read or whether the things within the books are relavent, I would think that any grandchild receiving a gift of meaning from a grandparent is going to treasure it. There will always be new books and authors, but nothing beats the past.
Also, there are sooo many amazing books now that deal with the everyday life of centuries ago that are just as good as any book in a modern setting.
That being said: I would love to pass on my favorite books to my grandchildren. Things like Speaker for the Dead (signed!) and my Murakami books.

first i would have to be ableto pry them out of my hands first XD
but seriously i would leave my Amy Tan books for them becuase they are so good. and If i have a daughter [has no kids right now XD] i would leave her my Historical Romance novels, they are so good.
Of course my comics too would be passed but i would also take into consider whom im giving them too,
its not going to be the kid who burns books. XD.
And any other books i love would be passed down as well,.. oh and my cook books im stealing my moms right now haha XD

Mmm... I'll probably pass down my entire collection, which consists of sci-fi/fantasy, mysteries, biographies, history, textbooks, classic literature, and just about everything in between. Most specifically, though, I'll be sure to pass down my collection of what's known as The Five Foot Shelf of Books, or the Harvard Classics. Also, I'd like my grandchildren to have a copy of The Little Prince. That one's a must-have, to me. <3

I will save my Harry Potter books to read to my grandkids I can't wait to give that experience to someone else. They gave me so much and I can't imagine what effect they can have a few generations down the road.
Another thing I will gladly bestow upon my children and grandchildren will be a love for Shakespeare. I started reading his works avidly in about the 7th grade and I haven't stopped since. There is nothing like a good play being read out loud to make you feel good.

Well if I would have had children, I would have passed on Little Women. Also a book called The Little White Horse. I loved that book and I just found out they are making it into a movie!

Well first off, it I would look into if they like any of the books from my collection but surely I would have to pass down my Cat In The Hat book when they were young. Then, as they got older, I'd let them read through my Nancy Drew stuff, maybe some Harry Potter stuff to get their imaginations going. And maybe if I see they take good care of them, I'd let them keep the sets.

Hmmm, thats a tough question. I don't actually ever plan on having children but if I dp I'd probably pass down my Grimm's Fairytales collection as well, I adore those stories. My collection of the complete works of Edgar Allen Poe, Alice's Adventures Through the Looking Glass, and Peter Pan would probably be passed down as well. What others....Oh! I'd give them the recipies from my mother and grandmother also.

But truth be told, my classics.

I want my kids to be educated in the fine arts, so my art history book as well! ^.^

Well, I'm lesbian and have no plans to adopt, so don't think children are going to be in my future, let alone grandchildren. So things would probably go to nieces and nephews. I think my fantasy novels would be the big thing. I love Piers Anthony and Anne McCaffrey, along with several others, and am trying to collect their works. As much as I love my collection of manga and manhwa, I think it's the novels that are the real keepers in the long run.

I'll probably give my grandchildren a bunch of fantasy books, like J.R.R.Tolkien's work and things like Devices and Desires. I figure if I raise my children on the same material, then my grandchildren'll like it too and we can all have something in common.
