Anybody read the classic To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee? The beginning was super boring, but once it got to like chapter 10 or so, it started to get interesting. We're reading it in school right now and I read ahead five chapters, and usually hate reading  so I guess that shows you how cool this book is.

Yeah! Atticus is probably my favorite character in any book I have ever read. He was just so calm and wise.

I love that book! lol.
It's one of the best school books that I have ever read.
I personally liked the beginning. I love the whole Boo Radley story and Dill. (I love Truman Capote.) It's probably one of the must read books. I wish Harper Lee wrote more stories except this only one. It's a true masterpiece! :D.

That book was set text in highschool for me. A lot of people found it pretty dull until the trial came to its end. But I loved it right from the start. I am one of those people who like books just to do with human nature, which is primarily what "To kill a mockingbird" is and that's why it's dull until the author spices it up with sex and death.

My LS Teacher had to read it as set text too and she loved it, so I talked a lot about it out of class, and we even watched the movie based on the text. It was one of those books I ended up crying over though. I must have been 15 when I read it as it was on the final GCSE paper.

To this day I regret not accidently taking it home and forgetting it, which I used to do a lot with school books and I keep meaning to buy it but never get around to it.

I had this book for a while but never really read it until last year. Like you said the beginning was a bit boring and slow going, though I read it all the way through and love it so much.

Since I didn't go to a regular school I didn't have to read it for school, so I just read it for fun.

I really enjoyed it. :)

I read that book back in middle school and we had to watch the movie. It was an old B&W movie I think you can get it now on DVD if you want see it or not.

I liked the book.
It was very nicely written, and it tied up everything, along with reality and prejudice and such.

I hated the book by the end of 8th grade though.
xD
My class nicknamed it "To Kill an 8th Grader". xD
We had 3 essays on it, one 10minute presentation, argument cases, and such.
Ohgod.
It was SO much effing work.
;___;

So I suppose you can say school killed the book. xD

I really liked it; sometimes you have to be careful because half the time classics are BORING and not so classic at all, but I was surprised when I read it. I also like the fact that the narrator is a clever, evenhearted young girl.

We read that book last year in class. It really was a good book. I just loved how well written it was. I agree the beginning was boring and then it caught my interest. We also watched the movie which was good, but not as great as the book. It's never like that.

I absolutely loved that book. I stole it from my older brother three years ago, and read it all day, much to my teachers' consternation.

Unfortunately, I had to read it again with my ninth grade class (right now). I am, coincidentally, currently writing an absolutely obnoxious analytical paper on the changes Scout undergoes throughout the novel, such as her altered sense of justice and the differentiation between law and justice.

Very good book, I have to agree about the beginning, super boring! I didn't even know the main characters name by the 4th chapter xDD

Well... it was definitely a well-written book. I can say that much. However, I never finished reading it due to the boredom that I decided that I couldn't take after hitting the middle of the book. Yes, the action did pick up, but nonetheless, it just wasn't for me ;]

We had to read it a couple of months ago, for our GCSEs (I'm from the UK in case you didn't know).

At first I found it pretty boring, but after a while, I got into it.
But what I hate the most about reading books for an exam is that you have to go over them again and again, and after a while, you get bored of the book, no matter how interesting it is.

I'm afraid that after writing SEVERAL essays on it, that characters, the locations, themes, speech, etc, I'm pretty bored of it now.
It's a shame, because it's a great book, and it's written really well.

I also had to read To Kill a Mockingbird for my English Literature GCSE and it was probably the most enjoyable book I ever read in secondary school.

I found the narrative particularly enjoyable. Scout sees things differently as she grows up and you get a better sense of what is really going on. There's still things she doesn't understand though, because she's just a child and I think that makes certain parts of novel (the children's relationship with their neighbour for one) even more sweet.

We were allowed to watch the old black and white film as well when we'd finished reading. My English teacher was obsessed with telling us how great 'Greg Peck' was -_-

To Kill a Mockingbird! That was a great book. I erad it Freshman year, and I really liked it, even from the beginning (when it was still boring and slow) because I had a feeling that it'd get better later on. :3

I really admire Scout's dad for doing what he did. I particularly liked the ending.

*sigh* Why can't kids nowadays be more like Scout? DX

Although it was really simple seeming, I got hooked.

The ending left me wanting more. =/

I loved To Kill a Mockingbird since it was simple yet entertaining. The ending was like making me want more, and our teacher didn't totally kill it with homework or anything (read it in 8th grade)

I didn't have to read it, but my friends are reading it now in English. Some of them think it's boring and hate picking it up, while others love it. So, I guess it all depends...

I only saw the movie.... I think. I really wasn't very impressed by it, so never bothered with it again.
