Has anyone here ever read anything by Francesca Lia Block? She is my favorite author, I actually found her by mistake when I was looking around the library. My favorite one of her books is Violet and Clare. I really like how she paints such vivid pictures.

She's my favorite author too! My personal favorite book of hers is Weetzie Bat. I like the ones that come after Weetzie Bat too, but not as much as the original. Weetzie is my hero.

I agree, the language in her books is the best thing about them. It's poetic and beautiful, but not too over the top.

I've read Violet and Claire before, but it was a long time ago so I don't remember it very well. I guess I should read it again. I've also read Echo and Wasteland...and The Rose and the Beast, which is my second favorite book of hers.

I have read all of those also. Weetzie has a place in my heart too. Have you read all of the Dangerous Angel books? I just got the whole set, the one big book with the first five books with Weetzie. I thought Wasteland was pretty good, I liked the style that it was written in.

Yeah, I have the Dangerous Angels set too. And there's also a newer one called Necklace of Kisses that's about Weetzie. I love how she makes everything in her life so simple. There are still bad things, but she focuses on things that make her happy.

Off topic, but is your user name because of the movie Amelie? I love that movie <3. I was just talking about it in a different thread earlier.

I have read Necklace of Kisses too. I really like that also. Actually these books are what sealed my plans tom move down to California and the L.A. area.

It half is. I love that movie. It makes me happy that someone else likes it. The other half is that it's the name that a friend of mine from France gave me and then it developed in to the first half of my stage name.

Oh, wow. When are you planning on moving there? It does sound really nice from the way her books describe it, but I'm not sure I'd want to live there. I'd definitely love to visit LA though.

I just finished rereading Violet and Claire. Oh my god it was sad. I spent the end of it bawling my eyes out. It was probably even more sad than it's supposed to be because I used to have a friend that Violet reminds me of.

I'm going to read her new book called Ruby next. It was in the adult section, but I'm not sure yet how it's different. It makes me happy that Francesca's books are growing with me.

@Juniper
I will be moving down there in about three years. I have visited there a lot because I have family there are San Diego. I also cried at the end of Violet and Clare. I loved it though and it always cheers me up when I am down even though the end is so sad. I want to read Ruby and Guarding the Moon but I need to get my hands on them.

@Missy
How did you come across her books?

Oh you've already visited California? Is it as glamourous as it sounds? Or at least almost that glamourous?

Hmm, I haven't heard of Guarding the Moon yet. I'm sure I'll read that eventually too. It was really weird, I went to the book store to buy Ruby and they didn't have any in yet, but the public library had a bunch of copies. I haven't had time to start it yet because of work, but I'll let you know how it is if I read it before you find it.

The Canyons of L.A. are and parts of the city are. It's true when she says that there are colors, flowers and good smells every where.

I need to go the library soon. I haven't been there in a while but when I am there I will look for both books. If I read the book before you I will also tell you about it.

Ok, so I finally read Ruby. It's good, but Weetzie is still my favorite. I'm bad at summarizing plots without spoiling the book so I'll just tell you that you'll probably like it too so you should read it.

I love Francesca Lia Block. Her writing is very lyrical.
