By far, The Last Exit to Brooklyn by Hubert Selby Jr.
Has anyone else read any by him?
Or you might've seen Requiem for a Dream.
Maybe I'm just too young but I feel nauseous whenever I read it. I don't stop though...
So what's yours? ^-^

I've never even heard of that book before...maybe I'm just behind. I don't know any disturbing books, I'm just posting because I clicked this by accident. Funny how you get nauseous! I've read horrible, boring, badly-written books before but never a disturbing one.

I think the most disturbing book I have ever read is Black House by Steven King. It wasn't really the whole book, just the thought of an old geezer from a retirement home running around eating children. He creeped me out.
Also I was a little disturbed while reading a Dragon Lance book when someone got burned to death by a dragon and he was basically a pile of oozing flesh.
I don't have very many disturbing books.

Perhaps not the most disturbing, but one that I find absolutely terrifying is 1984 by George Orwell. It just twists and represses everything that people are...

I can't say I've read disturbing books much. I was going to read Pet Sematary by Stephen King but my mom suggested against it for some reason. >_<

Haunted : A Novel of Stories by Chuck Palahniuk made a lot of people sick. One of my friends was reading it at lunch and a few friends walked out feeling sick.
Palahniuk, during the current book tour, was reading the first story called `Guts' and to date there have been 63 people who have passed out with many people being injured falling into book cases in book stores.

@Sho:
I've always wanted to read Stephen King novels.
I've seen a few movies. :3
One was the Shining, Stand By Me(not the typical Stephen King, eh?) and 1408.
I don't know why but I've developed an obsession for disturbing/scary/obscure books. n__n
@Cloud:
Neee~, don't worry. You're not behind. [:
I bought the last copy available in my city.
xD
Some might think Last Exit to Brooklyn is poorly written because one page might have one period in total, he never uses quotation marks and no apostrophes.
It's hard to get in the swing of it at first though. D8
@musado:
Never heard of it. o_o
Thanks, though. I'll definitely check it out. :'D
@Nightshade:
Yay! :3
Another Stephen King...
I'll check it out. ^w^
The fact that my mom would suggest against any book would personally make me want to read it.
Not to rebel, but it usually means I'll enjoy it. ;D
Our taste...differs. xP
@WishingMoon:
Chuck Palahniuk! o: He wrote Fight Club, yuh?
That's one of my favourite movies. n.n
Oooh my. o__o Thanks a ton!
.:runs off to nearest book store:.

I don't really read disturbing books, since... Well, they're disturbing. A few of my books do have disturbing parts, however. Like in one of my James Rollins books, there's a part where this carnivorous thing eats one of the characters, while the others don't realize it and follow the blood trail to where the guy's head is.

I had to read the book Lolita for class, and it was definitely not what I expected.
The cover says it's the best love story ever written...
Well, it's about a man who likes young girls in a sexual way. He marries a woman to get close to her young daughter. The woman accidentally gets hit by a car and dies. So, he takes this young girl and lives with her and has his way with her for the bulk of the novel, until she has grown up and is unattractive to him.
GROSS!
And I had to read this for high school english class!

night by Eli Wizel or something like that. it's a Holocaust book. we had to read it during middle school. half the class had to drop it because it gave them horrid night terrors. it was kinda a mess. it's one of the best books i have ever read but it is not meant for 12 year olds.

Are any of these or does anyone know any which are disturbing in a psychological kind of way?
The Last Exit to Brooklyn sounds interesting I might look for that...

Disturbing...I actually think it might be 'The Stand' by Steven King. It was a good enough book and all, but some of the descriptions of certain things...well, I just dunno. I wasn't really...happy.

I'm only on page 100, but a few parts of Infected by Scott Sigler have kinda creeped me out. Basically a disease/infection/parasite/something on those lines starts infecting people in the US and makes them into violent psycopaths who pretty much kill themselves and those around. It's not that part which has been a bit crazy in my opinion so far. It's another part pertaining to it though. Not going to say what it is though. I'm not a fan of spoilers. :]

It is really funny that you posted this, because I was just coming in to mention "Guts." That story made me feel like I was about to have a return visit from my lunch. Actually, any time I think about that story too much, I get the same dizzy, sick feeling.
A friend of mine is a graduate assistant teaching English 110 (freshman English at the university), and he mentioned he might make his students read "Guts" for class. I forgot to ask if he went through with it, but I hope for his students' sake, that he didn't.

Battle Royale is a good one for turning your stomach from sheer senseless violence.
Although, Hot Zone has some graphic descriptions of Ebola symptoms.

I tend to read a lot of thrillert/horror, etc. I absolutely love Stephen King, and tend to enjoy his books and movies/TV series. But I think I would still recommend reading the book before watching anything.
I have yet to read Pet Cemetary, though. I almost did, but the library wanted their books back and I had a few other things to read for school at the time. I will be reading it though, as soon as I can.
I think I might give a few of the books here a try, a lot of them sound quite interesting.
kreest: Lolita is not something that advocates Pedophilia, don't take it that way. The point of the story was to show how tragic and full of consequences Humbert's obsession with Dolores was.
Humbert told the story of a Lolita he made up in his mind, as he was unwilling and unable to listen to the actual girl. Nabokov himself has even called him a hateful person, and a vain and cruel wretch.
There have been other interpretations of the book, it all depends on how you take the story. It has even been taken in a way as to represent a metaphor for the totalitarianism that destroyed the Russia of Nabokov's childhood. But in no way was it an endorsement for pedophilia.

"Ambrosial Flesh." I love the book, but it's mostly about cannibalism. It's bad enough that the guy cuts his wife into bits and slowly eats away at her while she's still alive, then serves her remains at a dinner party. But he eats the skin off of his own feet. X_X It's so nasty.
The book's really great once you get past the first half of it. The rest is about Satan cannibalizing people.

I don't know really.
Stephen King's The Dark Tower series kinda ended in a morally disturbing way. And there are some things that are kind of questionable during the book I guess. >>
I think it's probably one of my favorite series though.

I really haven't read many seriously disturbing books. However, I'd have to say 'A Ship is Dying' is one of the more disturbing books I've read. Well...at least one part was pretty gross. The ship they're on lurches and the cook ends up falling in the oven and cooking in his meal. This, along with the description of those trying to help him, is kinda gross.
As for the other one, I can't remember the name of it. ._.; It was a zombie book though. About a man trying to find his son or something. If I remember correctly, there was a pretty detailed chapter about a girl being raped. There was also a man who was tied up and had his penis eaten by a zombie because he ticked off one of his superiors.
