Anyone read his books? I had never heard of him till i met my boyfriend. He writes a series of books starring a surly knight champion named Sparhawk. I am not sure how much more to say because i dont know what to write without spoiling the book! But i would like to know how many people are aware of this author and his books and what you think of this writing style!

I personally love it, he writes the characters and interweaves twists in the plot and makes the story so enveloping! I cant help but keep reading late into the night most of the time to see what happens next. @[email protected] lost plenty of sleep while reading that series (its 6 books separated into two mini series of 3 books, one of the beginning and the other a few years after the first series ended) I personally like the first one better but they are both amazing <3

I'm much a fan of David Eddings - although I enjoy his Belgarian and Mallorean series more than the series concerning Sparhawk.

Although, the character of Sparhawk is marvelous in itself.

Anyway, I really enjoy his writing style. Unlike a lot of fantasy writers he doesn't use obscure phrases that just make reading more difficult. I think that's probably what I like the most about his books. I mean, they're fairly predictable - not that I mind - but they're so fun to read simply because of how easily and comfortable he writes. <3

I think, concerning the series that involve Sparhawk, that I only read the second series. About the princess encased in ice? I'm horrid when it comes to remembering titles.

Thats the first one, the second is after that. :)

And yes i just read both of those series as well...they are all good but for some reason the first mini series in the sparhawk segment just caught my attention the most.

But i must say that i <3 Polgara. :D

I love David Eddings books. He is a really great writer. He is one of the few authors whose book I can pick up and read and be involved in the story within five seconds.

I believe the only Eddings book I have read is the Redemption of Athalus (sp?)
I thoroughly enjoyed it, but everytime I go to choose another of his books to read, i'm never sure which one to start with lol

Ah yes, Aunt Pol is awesome! <3

I think... there are great differences between Sparhawk and the Belgarion thing. Probably must be something that attracts me more in that one. ^-^

I think, actually, it's because I didn't really like the princess in Sparhawks series that much. Then again, I didn't like Garions' wife much, either. XD I don't particularly like his leading ladies that much. XD Or at least not the romantically inclined ones.

Well, he seems to enjoy making the leading ladies an "i get what i want" type. Which is semi obnoxious (even if i am a girl myself im not a fan of that attitude royalty or not) If they were a little less imposing and all about /bats eyelashes I WANT NAO!! i would like them A LOT better...

I always did prefer hanging out with boys when i was younger too XD They're more fun!

Soulmate! XD

I definetly agree with you on that. I mean, I encourage the "I know what I want and I go for it" attitude, I think that's very admirable. But Eddings takes it a bit too far.

Boys are more fun.

I've read them all, except for Regina's Song. -nodnod-

My only problem with his books is that, especially when you get to the Dreamers series, you discover that a lot of the books have more or less the same characters, just dressed up with different names and vaguely different personalities. -shrug- I really like them, it's just... Take a few steps back; most of his characters are VERY similar to one another. *can't think of any examples off the top of her head at two in the morning*

I love David Eddings, especially the books 'Belgarath the Sorcerer', 'Polgara the Sorceress', and 'The Redemption of Althalus'. Out of his series, I like The Tamuli most of all, followed by the Dreamers series.

Edit - Arky make typo!

I used to really enjoy his books - I thought the Belgariad and the Elenium were the best of his work. His later work, I thought, were both uninspired and self-indulgent, which is really a pity.

I actually have yet to read any of his books, but I only hear good things about them, I will have to add them to my list of "books to read."

First I must finish the terry goodkind series though. XP

Oh, I absolutely felt in love with Elenium for a year or two! <3

I got "The Diamond Throne" on Christmas when I was 8 or 9. A long time ago. When I read it first time, I liked it but it just went on the shelf. But later, when I was 12... Me and my two friends just get crazy about it. I bought two other volumes of series, we were drawing short comics about it... I still have all of them! Elenium doesn't kill with originality, but all the characters and the humour is amazing. I really enjoyed authors style of writing, it's perfect for this kind of story. One of my favourites series.

After this there was a long, long break, because in Poland you can't buy Tamuli in bookshop or another normal shop. You can only get used ones, for quite high price. But I found that in "my" library there is a fantasy part - hundreds of fantasy books! And I found there "Tamuli". I remeber that first half of book I read in autocar, when I was going to France in winter. I was reading until my friend said, that my eyes will see worse because of reading when there is so dark. All day of reading!
It just reminded me how I loved these books. It didn't took me over so much, I'm afraid, but it was still so nice to read.

I also tried to read the Pawn of Prophecy, since it's the same author, but in fact I ended bored and never finished it. It didn't seem so interesting to me as Elenium ;<

I am a huge David Eddings fan. I love his writing style. I love the humor, and I love how he can get me try cry.

Vella + Beldin = *bawling like a baby*

Kurik + Adis-may-he-rot-in-Hell = *bawling like a baby*

I liked Sparhawk 'cause he's not handsome, and not so good at the whole 'subtle' thing. I liked Garion because the poor kid not only had absolutely no idea what the freak he was doing clear up to the fight at Korim, he was human. He was the hero, but he acted in ways I would act, did things I would do. He got scared, he was a coward at times, he was dense and stubborn and real.

And that's what I like best about David Eddings. His characters are people I can relate to, people who don't make me feel under-accomplished or inadequate.

I didn't like the Dreamers saga, though. I made it up to the second book, but after that, I started skimming. Too much background, and it just became ridiculous with the twists they were adding. The only reason I would keep reading would be became I love Veltan too much to stop. Stripes! He told her she should wear stripes! And then he went and believed the Moon when she said the Sea was still mad. Poor guy. *luffs on Veltan*

*total rabid Veltan fangirl* ^__^

David Eddings didn't write just the Sparhawk collection, which I think that particular series is the Ellenium or the Millenium. It's one of the two. You should also try and read some of the other series, the ones with Belgarath Garion, and some other characters. I can't think of that particular series. David Eddings also wrote other books as well with his wife which are actually pretty good. So yes, David Eddings has more books thatn just that particular series. He's already written a lot of FABULOUS books.
