My mom is a bookworm heheh she is a teacher so is my father and they both loveeeeeeeee books so much I was almost raised on a library because when I was a child our apartment was so small and we had a room that was livingroom/dining room/library with the four walls covered by bookshelves, there you could find anything of good culture, novels, atlas, classical literature, magazines, horror books, history and geography books, spiritual books and self help o.o yeah everything lol.
I used to love reading a lot and when I grew up, I got married and went to live in my own house, but I started my own library there n_n (not as big as the one in my parent's house but still big) I have a lot of books related to my job, I'm a teacher too so I love books about teaching and the school books of course, to have lots of material and resources is my life so I can make my classes interesting =)
I also have novels (horror and suspense ones) and magazines, I love popular mechanics and interesting stuff like that.(Hey Im not a freak I also buy Elle and Cosmo somethimes XD)
So...
How is your book collection composed?
do you have a big library at home? or maybe just some shelves?
DO you own a lot of books from that library or they are aminly from another member of the family and so you sort of inherit them?
Do you ever read them?
How many of them have you read? percentage?
Do you think having and reading books is a good source of knowledge? it certainly helped me out a lot to have a good cultural level.

I love books too. But the thing is I've moved around so much that I lost just about every book I had. But I can tell you this much. It's become hard to find a book I haven't read when I go to a library.

One of my biggest complaints about today is the downgrading of that base cultural element - the book.
It's a proven fact that reading BOOKS, not websites, increases not only the reader's general knowledge, but their literacy level and reading comprehension level as well. People claim they can't understand "big words". here's a peace of advice - pick up a book and start learning your native language.
My room at home has about five bookshelves in it, all filled completely with books. i keep all of my textbooks from college, as well as ones from high school that the teacher said were OK to take. I also have many navels (fantasy and suspanse mostly, though there are a few steven king novels).
So yes, as you can see, I am a huge advocate of reading actual, hard-copy, real-life books. There's just something about curling up in a comfy sofa with a good book that nothing else can compare to.
I'd say i've read about 80% of the books in my library. Most of the 20% i haven't read are textbooks.

I also love reading books, most of the books that I have are fiction, and they usually revolve around a central female character. I also find myself always reading Heather's Picks from Chapters and Oprah's picks, because I already know that they will be good books, and so I don't have to browse the shelves looking for one.

I agree that books are very important. My parents knew that and that is why they encouraged me to read. Which was no problem because soon they couldn't get me to stop. I know when my husband and I have kids in the future I will encourage them to read.

Let's see.....
On the bookcase to my left, I have young adult fantasy. The bookcases in my parent's bedroom have a lot of knitting/crochet/crafting books. The ones in my dad's office are of spiritual or computer stuff. In the kitchen we have one of the largest cookbook collection's i've seen outside of a store. In the living room, there is political commentary and reference in one bookcase. The one right next to that one has classics. On the other side of the room, there is a lot of fantasy along with the historical and science flavors. Science fiction takes up the most space though because the books are larger. We have more fiction fiction though because the books are 2 deep on the shelves. On the last bookcase in our house, next to the fiction ones, there are more reference books and a few misc genres. Oh. Forgot about non-fiction. That goes in the one with the political stuff.
My mom's a children's librarian. My dad loves books in general. You kinda get why we've got a lot.

I used to have a huge book collection actually when i was once a young boy and it had all the sweet books for kids i think it was like 6 selves packed completely shut. I think i still have my hardy boys books here some where too i just can't find them

Books? I have over a hundred, maybe two hundred. Majority of them are fantasy books, and also mystery. I <3 reading as much as I love drawing. They're not really arranged specially, I just put them back in some random place unless I want to read it again :)

I don't have a lot of money so I don't get to buy too many books - so I just buy the books that I REALLY love. But someday - I'll have the money for more books. Being a poor college student sucks sometimes D:

I currently collect the Kingdom Hearts books, the Hard Back Stephen King books and the soft back Fear Street Series books.
I love Kingdom Hearts I always have I loved the games I played them all and started collecting the books to it now. There is always a place in my heart for Sora and Axel XD
Stephen King is the man! Always has been and will always be in my eyes. He has the ability to terrify me. I love his books so I started collecting the hard backs only. I have a pretty big collection right now. I am very proud of it. I used to belong to the Stephen King fan club I would get a book ever so often. I love them. Thats how I got so many lol.
I love Fear Street! Has anyone else tired them? I know they where around when I was in 7th and 8th grade that is when I got hooked on them. I keep buying them I have a huge collection of them. They are harder to find now a days. But I will never give them up lol. I plan on letting my grand kids read them. I take care of the books not a bent page in one. XD

Well, my 'collection' is mostly comprised of fantasy or sci-fi books, and old books, so it's really varied.
I have a few shelves, and books everywhere in our small house. I plan on having a room dedicated to being a library when I acquire my own house.
I go to the library quite frequently, and usually bring home at least two bags bulging with books. However, I inheirited quite a few from my maternal grandmother, and have a knack for acquiring books on my own.
I try to make sure that I've read every book in my possession at least once, unless I honestly detest it, in which case I give it to the library. My exception to this rule however is romance books...most I get rid of instantly. I'm not a fan of them...
How many of them I've read? perhaps 80%. I have a LOT of books. I re-read them when I can't remember what they were about anymore too.
Reading has taught me most of what I've learned, in and outside of school, so yes, I think they're very important.

No pictures of mine but heres what i have:
Full collection of "Wheel of Time" series
Full collection of Anne McAffrey books
Full collection of RA Salvatore books
Full collection of Dan Brown books
Full collection of David Eddings books
I used to own about 60+ Manga but i gave those all to my friend when i moved...
Then theres just random various books...15ish of those :)
Anywho, yes i believe reading is a great source of knowledge. First knowing how to read is pretty darn big. XD Also theres so many things you can learn in books from human beaviour to actual facts about creatures or how things work. IMO you can learn from both Fiction and Non-Fiction.

Being a student of English lit and a teacher of English as a foreign language,it is absolutely an imperative in my life to have books.Ever since I was a kid, starting with the stories of the brothers Grimm and the Arabian nights,I was always a huge fan of reading. It's probably why I chose literature as my major. ^^
I have a huge bookshelf occupying the middle of my room, with over 300 books. Some of them I bought, some I inherited, they are also on several languages including Hungarian (which is my mother tongue),Serbian (the language of the country where I was born and where I live) and English (which is the language I've taken up as a foreign but which I came to love so much).
My problem is that books in English are hard to come by in my country, there are only two stores that sell them.Luckily, they also practice ordering the books you want,so I manage. ^^
I read all kinds of things, lately I've read most of the books that are compulsory for my studies and books which I require for my teaching.
Other than those,I have a lot of mainstream books, like the complete collection of Paul Auster's novels (he's my favorite writer of all times),of course Tolkien's LOTR,Hobbit,Silmarillion, the complete HP collection...I'm also quite fond of some British authors like Nick Hornby and Salman Rushdie...And my new discovery,Spanish authors, namely Borges,Marquez,Isabelle Allende,Thomas Eloy Martinez...and so on. xD

Well, I'm just a kid so I like a lot of kid books. xD I LOVE the Grey Griffin series by J.S. Lewis and Derek Benz. LOVEE ITT. Harry Potter is a major duh. I mean, who DOESN'T love Harry? xD Inkheart I loved a lot. Not so much Inkspell, though. ): Well, I know I didn't really list that many, but let's just say I love a lot of fiction books about magic and such. But, there is this other book that I just finished. It's called Rules by Cynthia Lord. It's not about magic, but I loved the plot a whole bunch. It's about this 12 year old girl that has an autistic brother. She wants a regular life, but she finds it really difficult. Well, there were some other details, but whatever. :P

I have a large book collection, if you consider that I only started living on my own a few years ago. When I lived with my parents, one wall of my bedroom was made up of a built in desk and bookcase. I have all sorts of things, from class books I enjoyed too much to sell back to classics to random things I picked up at library sales.
My collection, however, is nothing compared to my mother's. She has a vast collection of cookbooks, which she keeps in bookcases surrounding the walls of two large rooms in her house.
