Good Bye Shojo Beat
I'm going to miss you very much. It was a great run and I really enjoyed it. I'm going to miss reading you every month.
Yep. Shojo Beat has been discontinued as Viz has decided to focus their dwindling funds elsewhere. I don't know about everyone else, but I'm very disappointed to hear it, but I'm going to try and get the back issues I missed and I'll try not to be too upset about it. There's always Yen Plus right? 。゚(゚´Д`゚)゚。 |
Wow, and I was just reading an article last night about how Shojo Beat and Shonen Jump sells more than 10,000 copies a month (or year, don't remember which), totally not expecting to hear that they're discontinuing Shojo Beat. So is Shonen still going?
I've never read either magazine before though...I think it's only in America, here we have about five or more different magazine companies here for both Shonen and Shojo for Japanese manga and I never know which one to read. Most of the time I just end up reading it all on the Internet @[email protected] |
Shounen Jump is still continuing, but they've discontinued Shojo Beat. It really sucks because in America there aren't really any other manga magazines made for girls. There aren't really that many manga magazines anyway, losing that one really sucks, I was really attached to it.
|
Living in the UK, I only ever got to read Shojo Beat a couple of times... it was kind of prohibitively expensive, since I was also paying shipping on top of the cover price. I'm sorry to hear it's being discontinued, though; if there was a similar situation with a manga magazine in the UK, I'd definitely be disappointed. It strikes me as kind of strange that they're discontinuing Shojo Beat but are still going to publish Shonen Jump... It must sell a lot more than Shojo Beat did or something. At least you'll still be able to buy the series in book format, and they're not completely discontinuing them. |
I think ultimately Shounen Jump ends up with a lot more of an audience. People are familiar with shows like Bleach, Naruto, etc because they are shown on Cartoon Network and have large fanbases. Much fewer of the stories that are published in a mag like Shoujo Beat will end up having their anime counterparts shown like that.
I never bought SB, but it was fun to flip through in the bookstores and it's a pity they cant keep it alive. At least we have the manga volumes. |
I'm going to miss shoujo beat too, but those kinds of magazines never have made it for too long outside of Japan. Anyone remember animerica extra? That was a great one. I think the only reason shonen jump does so well is because of all the naruto etc hype.
|
Well, it was still shocking to me because Shojo Beat seemed to be running really well. I started to grow suspicious of their money issue when the Beat Girl contest was canceled with no explanation.
Animerica Extra? It sounds familiar, but I've never read it. Naruto is definitely the reason why Shonen Jump is still going. |
@Sho: Ah, of course~ Naruto and Bleach and such. That makes sense. Plus I guess there are probably girls who buy Shonen Jump as well as (or instead of) Shojo Beat, but few guys who would do the reverse. |
I really liked Shojo Beat, for what I got of it. I suppose there's always the internet for our Shoujo needs. Or our Shoujou needs.*
*Cow |
I know. I was so upset when I found out. I found so many wonderful series because of it. I saw the magazine in the mail and I was so happy. Then it turned out to be Jump. I wanted to cry. So now I get it instead, which makes me really sad since I don't like it. If I did I would have bought it.
Y_Y And I loved Animerica Extra. All like 10 copies I got. |
That really sucks. There are few anime mags that are directed toward girls and shojo. The few I do know cost a ridiculus amout. *cry*
|
Awww, I love Shojo Beat so much. D:
That was the only thing that kept me going back to the library. >u> I loved the DIY and get this look sections. =u= I don't get to see cute items irl since my family went broke so it was nice to look at the pretty pictures. T___T |
It's sad that there will be no more Shojo Beat. I actually didn't think the magazine would last as long as it did. I used to be subscribed to it but then it expired for me some months back and I haven't bought a new one since. The manga's they had in the end did not interest me as much as the previous ones.
I really liked the get this look section because they would have some interesting products that you could also get online. |
Well I suppose when the economy picks up again there will be a new magazine around.
Or hopefully, hopefully, Viz will be able to afford to publish it again. |
Whaaaaat? D: This is awful. I haven't read it lately, but I still like it a lot. Please tell me they're going to continue publishing the individual manga series that were in the magazine! If they're not, then I'll probably start crying. That's so stupid. Don't tell me they're keeping Shonen Jump, but ditching Shojo Beat. Girls deserve manga to read, too!
|
NOEZ!!! o0o
|
It truely sucks.
Well, now I have I Shonen Jump sub so I'll save some money and I still get Yen Plus. So, there is some good news. |
Are you serious? I loved Shojo Beat and no more? Aw. :(
|
The manga that they were serializing is still going to be published, but the magazine is no longer going to come out.
I knew there was something up when the Beat Girl contest was canceled about a month after the contest was even announced. |
Wahahaha, never read that things.
|
:(
oh that sucks! I love Shojo Beat and will miss it!
|
My library had started subscribing to the magazine and I found out a number of good titles through Shojo Beat, it is truly sad to see it go. :(
|
NOOO! Thats horrible! and i was going to resubscribe...*sniffle* Shojo beat introduced me to manga
|
:shock:Are you kidding me? I love shojo beat! Although I have noticed it was getting harder to find shojo beat magazine around my area. hmmm. Thats still no good for me, is there anyway somebody can continue it? Or is that just wishful thinking, and I have to ask how did you find out about this?
|
It's very sad, I hope it continues somehow.
Information about the discontinuation can actually be found on the site now if I'm not mistaken. |
