Hmm... Something like that is a little difficult to determine.
But I also thought that the One Piece plot was pretty mediocre until the end of the Sky Piea arc. It was really impressive how the manga-ka managed to pull everything together. It was really touching. Then Water 7 nailed it. It had everything. It had tension with the nakama, it had betrayal, it had dramatic rescues, and death, and love and... And then right into the action with Whitebeard and Ace. Yes, I believe that Oda really matured as a storyteller from that point on. But before that, the plot didn't feel very special to me. They were plots and there was a story, but it didn't wow me and make me CARE. Yanno? |
It might've been because the Strawhats were still 'gathering crew members' before then, so it was more scattered and more individually focused or something? :O |

Well... Luffy treats him in such a friendly way. So I don't think he's going to die. Law will probably convert to being a good guy from Luffy's insistence or something. XD
