I haven't tried any Katakana, but I can write three words in Kanji... which doesn't help me much because I can't even pronounce them.

I can write the Japanese equivalent of my name in Hiragana, and also a lot of Naruto character names. Since I don't know many Japanese words, I ended up writing names to practise Hiragana.
You know, I once did a search online to find out what some of the characters' names mean. Some of them are weird. Like Hatake Kakashi, which means Field Scarecrow.

I knew that Kakashi means Scarecrow. Haruno Sakura if spaced out to "Haru no Sakura" means Cherry Blossom of Spring... I think... not 100% sure.

Well I knew her surname had something to do with spring, and "no" does mean "of", like in Subaku no Gaara and Akasuna no Sasori.
I also found out that Aburame means oil woman.
Shino's name therefore means Oil Woman Shinobi

I'll have a look on Narutopedia, it sometimes has their name meanings in the Trivia section...
Quote:
|
The name "Haruno" means "spring field", and the name "Sakura" means "cherry blossom", a flower which is cherished in Japan due to its beauty and its almost-tragically short life span (cherry blossoms have historically been associated with the samurai). The Cherry Blossom also serves as the national flower for the nation of Japan. In Japanese, "Haruno Sakura" (春野・桜) means "spring field of cherry blossoms", which may be an origin of the name. It can be also used in the game, Hanafuda, as a month card of sakura (桜, flowering cherry).

"Shino" is the given name of the samurai Inuzuka of Nansō Satomi Hakkenden, a novel about a dog samurai. Kiba Inuzuka is also based off Inuzuka from the novel. His last name means "Oil Woman".
|
Sasuke's is quite interesting too
Quote:
|
Sasuke's given name comes from the legendary ninja Sarutobi Sasuke. Sasuke's surname, "Uchiha", is another way of pronouncing "uchiwa" (団扇, paper fan), which is actually the Uchiha clan symbol. Uchiwa can be used to fan flames, making the flame hotter — referring to the fact that the Uchiha is a clan of fire jutsu users.

I read that Kiba means fang and that Inuzuka is a combination of two words, one of which I think is loud.
I think Hyuuga means sunlight and that Hinata means "In the Sun". Neji, as far as I know, means "screw".

I always thought that was just so funny and random. But then that's the Hyuugas for you. After all, Hanabi means fireworks. Fireworks! Who would call their daughter Fireworks?
I think Tenten means something like "whatever", but I can't remember exactly.

i read somewhere that Hinata means sunflower, but you might be right too. i know a lot of names have more than one meaning.
and i don't know exactly what Tenten means, but i think tentens are those 2 little marks on some japanese symbols.

If Ten Ten serously means "Whatever" it would definatly prove her lack of character depth.

TenTen (テンテン) can mean "Sky Sky", or "Dot Dot (Spot Spot)", or "Spin/Roll". The 'dot' and 'spot' one could also be connected with 'scattered', which could mean to describe the scene caused by all those flying weapons when TenTen's fighting. Considering TenTen's good ability with weaponry and fighting with all those weapons hidden up her sleeves, it's a pretty good name.

I guess what I heard was wrong then. That does make sense, with all her weapons. I love Tenten, I think her hair is so cute.

I hate Sasuke. I also don't like most of the Akatsuki. I love Sasori, Hidan and Deidara, but I don't like the others. Well, I'm not sure about Itachi yet because I haven't found out about the whole reasons-behind-killing-the-Uchiha-Clan thing.

I think Sasuke's an idiot, but I don't hate him...except maybe for the part of getting Itachi killed. And Deidara. >_>
My all-time least-favorite has to go to Naruto though. His attitude and personality rubs me in the wrongest way. But since the years have passed, he's been changing bit by bit, so I might just change my views on him...someday.
Now that I think about it, nearly all my favorite characters are within Akatsuki o_O Gaara's nice too, though when he first appeared I hadn't liked him. I have yet to find a female character within the story that I like...maybe the paper-flower girl. She's probably the only one I feel better towards at the moment out of all the girls that have appeared in the series so far.

Neji used to be full of himself, but he really changed after his fight with Naruto. He is really nice to everyone and he doesn't boast or expect special treatment.
I really do think Masashi Kishimoto has something against the female characters. Less than half of the characters are female and the ones that are are either weak, always getting in the way, or have confidence issues. In the Chuunin exams close to the start, only one (Temari) made it to the third part, and I really think that's just so Shikamaru would have a girl to fight. Shikamaru always gets female opponents.
