No Fushigi Yugi thread!?
I searched the sub forum section..which is awesome. Mod you are very organized....
I saw that there was no Fushigi Yugi thread. aka Mysterious Play in English. The story's manga-ka is Yuu Watase. It is an eighteen volume manga with a three part anime series. The first two box sets called: Suzaku and Seiryuu; the third called Eikoden . The OVA series Ekoden is the last two volumes of the manga series. Watase-san has release another part of the FY story line called Fushigi Yūgi Genbu Kaiden. That story line takes place before the original FY series. I was introduced to FY actually by a friend in '98. He showed me a picture of Hotohori and I fell in love with the art and the story line from there. I currently own the entire series on DVD and the first two special edition mangas in Japanese. They include the first four actual mangas. Any other FY fans out there? How come I didn't see anyone post threads about it? It is such a beautiful story and awesome art work. Wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fushigi_Y%C5%ABgi |
I only read the first three volumes. It was good at first but quickly fell into a formula base which was kind of boring after awhile. I would like to see the anime eventually though.

lol...I watched a little bit of Fushugi Yugi...I never got too far into it though. I do like the fact that there's a guy who is thought to be a woman for a couple of issues. It's kinda cool to have an anime that touches on gender issues like that. I think that guy would have been a perfect candidate for a sex change surgery.

I love Fusihigi yugi. im up to volume like 12 or so. It made me cry a lot. especially when some of the characters died. i cried like they were my best friends. my friend introduced it to me because she is a big Watase fan she likes her art style alot and reads most of her works. any way my friend got many people in our school interested and such so we have FY discussions here and there
|
I cried too...then we would laugh about crying. lol..and at the very ending..
I cried even worse!! |
Fushigi Yugi is pretty awesome, anything by Yuu Watase is going to be good lol. I'm up to vol8ish so far, though I haven't been reading it for a while. I've been reading the prequel, Genbu Kaiden more
|
I have yet to read the Genbu series....which is weird since there characters are just as awesome. I should try to go back, and read them...
It would be pretty neat if they made it into an anime as well... |
It would be pretty cool if that was turned into an anime, i'd watch it in a heart beat lol. But the thing that's annoying is that it takes super long for the next volume to come out...
But... That means there's time to finish Mysterious Play... |
I love Fushigi Yuugi!! I first saw it in the dubbed version, but only 5 episodes. I wanted to SO see the rest of it. Later on, I bought the first two DVDs and now am watching it in japanese on youtube. I haven't read the manga yet, but plan to.
Nuriko is so funny. Even though I know that he is a guy, I just can't help but seem him as a woman. Hotohori is SO sweet. I kind of want Miaka to go with him until the second season when Tamahome's family got killed. Which the bad part is that she can't show any love to him, because she can't get Suzaku.(Sorry for spoiling it for those who haven't seen or read it that far) I read the ending and I don't like it. I honestly think that Yui should go back to the 20th century and live her pathetic life by herself and Miaka should stay and marry Tamahome and live happily ever after with lots of children. I know that Yui was being manipulated by Nakago, but still, if they were really best friends, she shouldn't have acted that way. And the who thing with her so-called in "love" with Tamahome, that was annoying and made her just plain pathetic! |
Fushigi Yuugi was one of the very first manga series I collected. I have up till... 13 or 14 now. I ended up outgrowing it a little bit because I was buying them as they came out so the waiting.. yeah.
It's a really cute and solid series though. |
Fushigi Yugi was the first manga I ever read. My friend had it, and I saw the picture on the cover of volume 2 and started drawing a picture of it, and when I was done, just opened the book and started reading.
Nuriko is my favorite character. |
Fushigi Yugi is one of my favorites! I love it! I have the complete series plus all the OVAs and I can either turn on the dubbed version or the subbed version. The ending was really sad! I cried a lot when i watched it. why did most of them have to die? i mean, okay, they got reincarnated but seriously.....it's still different. and i really wanted for Hotohori to stay inlove with Miaka, not marry some Nuriko-look-alike. Grrrr.... But my favorite male character is Nakago, though i root for the side of Miaka and Tamahome to win, Nakago is just too sexily evil....;)

Fushigi Yuugi is one of my favorite series! I'm Tasuki fangirl, although Nakago has that whole sexy evil thing going on. I was actually first introduced to the anime awhile back in an anime club, before it was dubbed. Yay, subtitled. After that I picked up the manga. Although I have to say that I prefer the anime more. Genbu Kaiden is fun and interesting, but I still prefer the original.

I use to be almost obsessed with Fushigi Yuugi. I bought the series about 5 years ago and just fell in love with a lot of the characters and how the story progressed. I’m sad that I had to end up selling the series due to some money issues. *le sigh* I hope to get it back soon and maybe re-watch most of it. I’m also sad that I forgot pretty much every characters’ names.

I instantly fell in love with the Fushigi Yuugi series, and then again I've always savoured the older animes. Some of the scenes within that anime literally had me in tears, especially towards the end.
|
I've only watched a few episodes of the anime, but I finished the manga series. Yuu Watase is one of my favorite manga artists. Her stories are unique, and her drawings are beautiful. She inspires me to be better at drawing anime. Anyways, I liked Fushigi Yuugi. It was very sweet. The only thing I didn't like about it was Yue. I just couldn't stand her! I was also really sad when a certain cross-dresser died, but I suppose a good manga artist brings emotion out of the readers. I definitely recommend the series to everybody. |
fushigi yuugi made me cry so much ! i loved the love story between miaka and tamahome *w*
oh my god , i want to have a man like that in my life :F but nakago, oh boy, he was so baaaad and seeexy :b i loved him too. |
My friend love's this Anime/Manga of this series she talk about it a lot. but I found out about the manga on my own form a manga magazine for girls. I read the first chapter en I'd fell in love with the story. so I'm now buying the big viz's version as they come out. said friend had given me a link to the anime but I lost it after I had to switch my old hard drive with a new one.
I still wish to see the anime someday it sounds really great anime to watch. |
I love Fushigi yugi! Tasuki was my favorite, and I always wanted him to end up with someone. (miaka >.>)
I don't actually remember much, but I really do like Miaka as a main character. She really reminds me of sailor moon. |
This is one of my favorite animes I so wished I could have watched it growing up. Alas though it wasn't on any of the channels I use to watch as a kid. Nonetheless discovering it at all was a gem in itself thanks to a friend of mine. My favorite character has to be Hotohori I got a thing for bishie's to begin with. And well he was just the brave sweet type, who didn't get the girl of his dreams in the end. I didn't like the main pairing at all Miaka was far too annoying, and Tamahome just kept ticking me off lol. As for the manga I've only read the first seven volumes but plan on buying more, when I get the chance. Overall despite my beef with the main pairing, it was an amazing story with a little bit of everything to keep me coming back for more.

Fushigi Yuugi~ One of my very first manga/animes along with Detective Conan.
I still love this series very much--I reread it every now and then. I also started reading Genbu Kaiden, but fell off it because of the irregular updates. I should pick it up again. (I love Hikitsuuuu <3) |

I liked Fushigi Yugi but I never finished the first series and as for Genbu Kaiden I'm still waiting for the next volume xD The first manga I ever read was Ayashi no Ceres, same author, and my friend had Fushigi Yugi. I gave it a shot because I liked Ceres and I've been a fan ever since. I didn't like the anime overly much though, I think I only watched the first episode. I had bought the dvd but I ended up giving it to my friend. Nuriko was my favorite character. He was hilarious. I also liked the red-headed boy, Tsuki right? I need to reread them.
