I saw an episode of this show in my schools Japanese Visual Club and I was quite impressed. An interesting story with characters you can't help but feel for... anyone else seen this show? If so who is your favorite character? Your favorite episode?

I've seen one episode of the series. A friend recommended it to me. It's not really my kind of show though. It's too...I'm not sure what the word I want to use is...dark? maybe? anyways...yeah...it's not the violence or anything. I'm just not one for horror-genred stuff, that's all. I thought that the series was well done for its genre and I'd recommend it for anyone who likes a series that has horror qualities to it.

I really enjoy this series and own the first few disks. However, you really don't get to know the main 4 characters till later in the series, and that's my biggest gripe with it. There is no real "story line" till then, just people who are wronged and Hell Girl fixes the problem. But I still like it and the art work is amazing in my opinion. My favorite episode is when they went into Ai's past... because I personally feel it should have been shown sooner and it helps to explain her. I love knowing character's pasts. My favorite character is a toss up between Ai and the young guy who works with her that turns into the Eye.

I own the entire series...it is beautiful...but my husband made fun of it because it got repetitive after a while...

which it does...

but you continue to watch it because you want to find out the history behind Emma Ai....

its really...REALLY dark...

they were playing a season of it on ifc last sping and i caught quite a few episodes...

i agree it is totally dark and serious, and the episode that got to me the most was the one with the two corgis and the little girl who owned them... the lady next door was terribly menacing and it was just so sad... although there were a few others that got to me too... even the story of how hellgirl became such...

thats the episode we watched in our club! I was like holy crap!! I've seen a couple since, one being the one that explains Hell Girl's past. I love that its so dark and serious. I have a lot of comedies and action centered animes so seeing one thats so dark is kind of refreshing for me.

@lastemoon: there really a lot of the comedies and action... especially in the US it seems that it's kind of rare to find an anime that is totally serious and dark

i hear there is a live-action drama too... not sure if it's out yet or not... but if it's going to be anything like the anime then i'll definitely watch it!

My favorite character is Ai. Then it would be Ren. I liked the first two seasons, but the third season I didn't like. I first read about it in a short summary in an anime magazine, but when I actually watched an episode out of curiosity, it was nothing that I expected.

i have seen all of the first season but none of the second or third. from what i understand the second and third season have more of a plot line and you lean more about Enma Ai. Enma Ai is also my favorite character. if nothing else for the reason of the line "want to try drying" as if it is something that a person can do and come back from.
it is dark but i have seen a lot dark anime Bogiebop phantom (sp?) is one that was so dark i could not finish it. and i tend to like stuff like that.

I really love this series. I watched all 3 seasons online. It does get really repetitive but in the end it's still a really good series. I loved the Hell Correspondence, Hone Onna was SO radical. I really like Kikikuri too even though a lot of people probably got annoyed with her. I thought she was cute , lol.

The second season was probably my favorite but the third was really good too.

I watched the live-action version. It was really interesting though I hate the guy they got to play Ren...even though it WAS his voice actor. I didn't think he looked anything like him and it annoyed me.

Hell Girl is a really great series, I love it! I've only watched Season 1 and a bit of Season 2 so far, its hard for me to watch a lot of Anime at once. The show is a little repetitive too which makes it harder to keep watching but it doesn't make me like the show any less!

My favorite character is Wanyudo. He is just such a radical old man. I love when he is in an episode for a long time. I also really love Hone Onna. She is a glorious woman.

I first watched the live-action show, which most people don't seem to like, but I thought it was really good! The actor they got for Wanyudo and Hone Onna were pretty close to the characters for me.

This started out nice and slow...then boom plot, soon, bam it was over. It was good, but left me wishing for another season to get the plot.

****SPOILER IN WHITE TEXT****

I have seen all of Hell Girl. My favorite character is Shibata and Tsugmai, although I do like Ai too.

SPOILER IN WHITE TEXT

My favorite episode is when Shibata and his daughter find out they are decent cousins of AI ENMA but she was supposed to be a sacrifice when she was 7 years old for this stupid ritual to the mountain god, so that the crops in her village would grow. They choose Ai because she was different and thought she was a bad omen. Shibata ancestor who was her cousin keeps her alive for 6 years and has fallen in love with her, and he asks her to run away with him, but they are discovered and she and her parents are killed and Shibata ancestor is the first to put dirt on the grave, but runs away because he couldn't protect her. She comes back as hell girl and begins to destroy the town and it's like WOW.

Oh I love Jigoku Shoujo. I'm not really a fan of the manga though. I'm still surprised that the anime came before the manga. Normally isn't it the manga before the anime? Oh well. It's really fun trying the fake Hell Correspondance websites. I haven't watched the live-action yet. I don't think I'll plan on it though. My favorite one was the third season one. The second season had retarded moments in the Takuma arc in my opinion.

I really like this show, I love some of the small stories of the people who call upon Hell Girl or Enma ^^
