Yotsuba&! and Azumanga Daioh
I didn't see any threads on these, but they're two of my favorites, so I had to start one. ^_^
Both series are slice-of-life comedies, and both were done by the same author. (Azuma Kiyohiko.) But besides that, they're completely different. Yotsuba&! is about the daily life of a five-year-old girl, and Azumanga Daioh is about the daily life of six high school girls. Azumanga Daioh was also made into an anime, which Yotsuba&! wasn't, sadly. :( Anyone else have any opinions? |
Azumanga Daioh the anime was hilarious, as was the manga. The translations for the manga were pretty well done, in the American English version, I liked how they had a lot of notes at the back explaining cultural references and appropriate changes that were made to ensure the sense of humour came through.
I've only read the first volume of Yotsuba&! (Didn't realise the &! was part of the title). Anyway liked it just as much as Azumanga Daioh, and hope I'll find a way to read the rest of it. |

Yen Press took Yotsuba&! from ADV as well. I like their version of that better, except for the blurbs on the back. They tried to take Yotsuba's perspective for those, and failed miserably. They ended up sounding like Junie B. Jones instead. DX The last thing I want is Yotsuba to act like Junie B.... |
