I have a ton of these. For example, Black Butler. Okay I know I'm going to get beat for this, but I thought the story was just. . .typical, predictable, and just blah! BUT I adore the art of it a lot. Another one would be Loveless. I love the art but the story in that book. . .well I couldn't finish it. The plot seemed dull to me. D:
What books have you encountered with lovely art and terrible stories?

I have encountered plenty of them, although I can't remember the names of most of them now. I agree with you about Kuroshitsuji, actually. Quite a number of my friends were raving over it and I liked the art and design. But when I tried reading the manga or watching the anime, I just couldn't stand it. xD
I like how the seme males were drawn in Loveless, but the main character turned me off. A lot. >.>;
I'm probably going to be smite for this, but I didn't really enjoy reading D.N. Angel, although the art was nice. It was too bland and draggy for me.
And then there are manga with have sub-par art but very interesting stories. I picked up Angel Densetsu and while not a fan of the art, the story amused me very much that I kept reading till the end. Another one of those is Liar Game and Mirai Nikki, psychological manga which I enjoy the concept of it but the art doesn't really appeal to me. xD

I agree on the Kuroshitsuji series. Great art, but lately the storyline has completely gone wacko...>_>; Zombies? Seriously? And not to mention the Detective Conan-like arc...makes me (and several of my friends) wonder if the mangaka has run out of ideas and is just dishing whatever out or something.
I'll probably get bopped for this, but I found Vampire Knight really boring after a while...I don't know how it's going so far, but the last time I was reading that, I could hardly keep my eyes open, despite the gorgeous art.

Alichino. The manga is beautifully drawn but the story just didn't appeal to me. I'm not sure if it's just me. But I just couldn't get into the story. I found it rather boring. But I absolutely love how the characters are drawn.

I have also caught myself falling asleep while reading Vampire Knight. Out of all the series in Shojo Beat(when it was still around) it was one that I lost interest in fast and couldn't get back into. I'd still look at the nice art though.

I really do love the mangakas art but her stories always show a weak female main character.

Vampire Knight...the art is gorgeous but the story just doesn't match in quality. I'd still read it, but it'd be more to just know what happens.

Mermaid Melody!I really can't stand it, it's a bit too...dramatic:sweat:.
With it so dramatic, I always feel so embarassed and was like "read on or don't read on". The storyline..., I could understand but when they were just a step before 'happily ever after', they go all lovey-dovey...*shivers* which is why...the art is cute but story too dramatic...*sigh*
Thank you for letting me complain... :D

I agree on most of them. I enjoy the art of Black Butler, I get it kind of out of boredom and I want to enjoy the art work. And Vampire Knight...I really didn't like it at all. It confused me but the art is wonderful. Kind of iffy about Rozen Maiden. I like the story line and art but kind of don't like the story line. I can't decide a whole lot. But right now I can't think of any others.

I probably have to agree with most of the series listed here already, especially Kuroshitsuji. I was drawn to it because of its art but when I started reading, I was so disappointed. It could have been a really cool series instead of the mess it is now.
Paradise Kiss. I'm in love with the art of the series but I couldn't make it past the second volume. It might be a really great series but I'll never know. I have to say I feel this way about most Shojo series actually. The stories all seem the same or they are really bland and I can't make it past a certain point no matter how hard I try to force myself.
Tenchi Muyo. I'm a HUGE nerd for this series and the artwork is gorgeous. That doesn't mean that I can't see its flaws. Tenchi is more like a series of little mini plots that never seem to add up to make a complete story. New ideas, plots, and characters are always added while old ones are pushed aside and NEVER fully explained. I just watched this newest season which is supposed to be a sequel to the OVA but instead of answers I just got more questions!!!

I was really drawn into the art from Barajou no Kiss...but wow...the story is so typical...and the main character is so...annoying. :gonk: I would enjoy it without her! >_>

I agree with you. I didn't even finish Black Butler, it had a great drawing but I knew where it was heading. Typical story line kind of thing made me stop watching it. Vampire Knight, definitely. I bought the Manga before the anime adaptation was in production and the anime made less sense than the manga. The manga, I don't even fucken know what happen. xD Mermaid Melody had a great drawing but I didn't even finish it, I don't remember even finishing it, I don't even know what the plot was about. xD What the fuq. I agree with Black Butler too. I lost interest really quick with that. I bought D.N.Angel for the art and it let me down as well. So did Death Note.

The art and characters for the DNangel were great, but the story... I had trouble reading it and watching the Anime was worse. I didn't even get all the way through the series. Think I stopped watching halfway through...
Despite this being a Manga only thread, I kind of got carried away, sorry about that.
Tsubasa Chronicles was also pretty bad for me. I like that Clamp reuse their characters, but at the same time they tend to change their entire perspectives. It bothers me... I much prefer and adore Kinomoto Sakura from CCS rather than the Sakura whom appears to be a Reed... Who ends up being not what she seems...
Anyway... I some of the Manga, but after a while it just started to get confusing as well. Could no longer follow after the first three volumes...

Wish by Clamp. Since it's Clamp I loved the art, but the story was lacking. They needed to make it longer than 4 books. Granted not all short manga series are terrible.

I found the opposite with Happy Cafe. The story was adorable and the art started off good, nothing special but good. But then the artist just seems to get lazier as the series progresses- there's like a stick person on every page with only their expression to tell the difference between who's who, but the boys just had such similar expressions that there were times when dialogue made no sense because you couldn't decide who was saying what.

Basically 80% of shoujo and 90% of yaoi. <_<
I tend to go for long lasting manga with your non-traditional beautiful art as they tend to have some substance in them that makes them so great like Monster, Complex and Tokyo Crazy Paradise.

I agree that the series should have been longer! I like the series but it seemed like it was rushed and not complete or something.

Woah....
Ditto on Vampire Knights....
It came off as a huge disappointment.
I wouldn't say the artwork is that good either....
Kuroshitsuji, a.k.a. Black Butler, started off pretty well....
As the plot progressed, I soon fell out of it.... too dull and dry....

Vampire Knights.
Thats the big one fore me.
I got into the first bit of it and really liked where it was going then the plot and story just got so convoluted that I can't make sense of it.
